His voice trails off as the two of them head up the stairs, Eddie still rambling on and Richie’s responding cackle still obnoxiously loud, joyous and brimming with tipsiness; there’s a sudden thump at the top of the landing, followed with the immediate cacophony of a distinctive Richie-Tozier-laughing-fit, and Ben smiles fondly to himself.
Maybe, he thinks, just maybe, things will turn out alright in the end.
