Work Text:
It was the middle of the night and Mirai had just convinced himself that he was in the clear to actually sleep. It always went this way when she woke up. Approximately 3:32 AM, right when Nemuri was in the middle of her overnight patrols. It took a tremendous amount of effort to want to leave his warm bed and his eyes hurt. Mirai desperately needed a good night's sleep. After the first cry, he was completely awake and listened.
Wait a minute or two, she might go back to sleep.
He had about a fifty-fifty chance of that actually working out for him, and unfortunately, that night was not one of his nights.
Mirai sighed and threw off his covers. The floor was cold on his bare feet and he sorely wished his daughter hadn't decided to cut his up last week. How she even found a pair of scissors I'll never know. Okay, where's the cup. Cup cup cup cup cup, where's the cup.... ah...
He picked up a pink thing half-full of water from underneath their coffee table and took it to their kitchen. It was what she wanted every time, snuggles with dad, a cup of warm milk and her All Might blanket. She already had the blanket, it was only logical for her to want the other two out of three. He yawned and lightly padded through the apartment to his little girl's room. She was just over a year now, but had terrible night terrors, the doctors had even suggested medicating her, but until they knew more about what her quirk could be they decided against it. (Mostly out of the fear of her quirk leaning towards Nemuri's and the child falling into a permanent sleep. That was a terrifying thought.) On the other hand, Mirai sincerely hoped she didn't end up with a morbid version of his and Nemuri's quirks combined. One could only imagine the horrors. What if she saw the future in her sleep? He shuddered at the thought.
Megumi continued crying and had moved to her door, shoving her face to the floor and screaming out the crack between it and the floor. He tapped on wood and spoke to her with a calm voice.
"Heyy.... Megumi-chan, sweetie, I need you to back away from the door. I don't want to hit you."
She sniffed and cried a moment more before she got up.
"Da-da-da-daaaaa----daddyy--"
Once he opened the door she was on him in an instant, tripping on her blanket in her rush and crying even more.
"Oh you're such a mess my dear," Mirai bent down to pick her up and gave her the cup, "Shh, that's right, daddy's got you. You're okay, I'm here."
"Daa-deeeee---"
He carried her to the rocking chair in the corner of her room and cleared the stuffed animals off it before setting down and letting her rest against his chest. Her blanket was absolutely disgusting, covered in slobber and tears. Note to self, attempt to steal blanket from child in the morning to wash it. It was what she needed for comfort at the moment though, so he let the tears soak into his shirt and the snot right along with it.
It wasn't a quick thing, to settle her down after a nightmare, and even after several minutes of gentle coaxing she still hadn't stopped crying. Mirai hummed in the back of his throat, a soft, deep melody he had heard ages ago that seemed to do the trick like nothing else for Megumi. The melody eventually morphed into half-mumbled words before he actually began singing to her.
It wasn't incredibly often that she got to hear daddy sing, and even after she settled onto his shoulder he continued singing.
Too, ra loo, ra loo ral.....too, ra loo, ra li.... too, ra loo, ra loo ral... hush now don't you cry....
Hhmmmm, mmm, mmmm, daaaa da daaa da daa, Hmmm hm hmmm hm mmmmm hush now don't you cry...
His voice died down once he knew she had fallen asleep again, and he continued rocking, the soft stuffy snores putting a tiny smile on his face. There was something about holding a sleeping child, something soothing and warm and he just didn't want to get up. Just wait a few more minutes.
Just...Rest your eyes. It'll only be a minute or two.

This was how Nemuri found them the next morning. Her husband hadn't been in bed when she returned from patrol and Megumi's bedroom door stood wide open. Inside, the light was still on, and there was Mirai, holding their daughter, both sprawled out on her rocking chair, fast asleep.
She had checked the time and saw it wasn't even 7:00 yet. So she turned the light off and shut the door, letting them both get some much needed rest.
