Proud Immortal Online, it was a solid game, beautiful graphics, maps and avatars. The gear had good customization and there was more than enough Fashion sets just in case your gear looked bad.

I’ll just buy this one set. Shen Yuan thought. He had been playing this game for a few weeks now. An investment this small shouldn’t hurt. After all his parents had given him a pretty lofty allowance this week. Probably as a reward for actually going out to eat with his Airplane-bro, which is what he oh so lovingly called his only best friend, Shang Qinghua. Of course they only went out to discuss this very game anyway.

And that was when it all came crashing down, they had become obsessed. One Fashion item turned to 3, then 10, then there wasn’t a single item that they didn’t own between the two of them. It helped that they had both been testers of the Alpha and the Betas, dedication at its finest, for all the wrong things. Shang Qinghua had even been fortunate enough for his constant reviews, guides and journals, to gather enough attention he became a writer for many of the skills or items in the game. Shen Yuan himself only had one item he sponsored, but it wasn’t important.

Shen Yuan was proud of his character. Choosing to match with Airplane-bro he had set his name to Shen Qingqiu, Qingqiu and Qinghua, brothers in obsessing over a game. Both of their characters were very well known in their server, especially with the two of them having a Sect in the biggest Guild in the game. Their Guild, Cang Qiong Mountain, was thoughtfully put together and a themed masterpiece. Shen Yuan’s own Qing Jing Sect was a strong powerhouse, many end game players sought out the coveted limited spaces. Shen Yuan knew better however, those types just wanted to use their resources to carry them, so he chose to pick lower leveled players for his Sect. As he helped them along he would build their trust and respect, and out of loyalty they would stay to help out, instead of running off to found their own Sects. This approach of his caused him to grow many players from the early stages of the game to viable end-game content clearers.
Before long, Shen Yuan grew to love being Shen Qingqiu, as his disciples would run to him as soon as they logged in yelling “Shizun!”, sometimes with Caps Lock and a barrage of emoticons.

Everything had been going great, the next content update was today, and with it open registration. Finally there would be a wave of new players! The game got pretty mundane when you could recognize just about every username on your server.

Shen Yuan loaded up the game, as his character spawned on the screen he couldn’t help but be satisfied with his hard work. His character was definitely more attractive than him, even if Airplane-bro said they shared the same resting bitch face. Its an mmo, emotions don’t matter too much on your characters face. His character’s gear was elegant, high rarity and refined to a soft green glow. His green and white color scheme with bamboo patterns gave him that ethereal look he wanted, he might have picked to be a human, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t outshine the other fancy races.

Even that lame Shang Qinghua recognized that Shen Qingqiu was one of the most put together characters on the server. Who else would go out of their way to not refine their gear past +6 because it was the only way to glow green. Shen Yuan himself hated the tackiness of the +10 gold glow. Even some of his accessories were of a lower rarity just to maintain a cohesive look. Airplane-bro would refine to +8 for the blue glow and then not worry about the color of his gear as long as he could clear the content.

As annoying as Airplane-bro could get, he was always there to buff and support him through the end game grind. Heck, they spent 2 weeks trying for that 1% drop rate accessory that Shen Qinqqiu wore with pride. While the two of them had more currency than was absolutely necessary, they hadn’t made that wealth by buying the gear they wanted. Sure they whaled on Fashion sets, mounts, pets, chance boxes. . .those were just for convenience though! They tried their best to avoid the pay to win life, but they just wanted to look cool.

The thunder rolling outside snapped Shen Yuan out of his proud stupor. It was strange, the storm hadn’t been on the radar, almost like it just magically appeared. But that is weather for you. Shang Qinghua wasn’t answering his text messages either, which was strange as the guy rarely ever put his phone down. Even if he was asleep he usually got up to answer.

Well whatever, he probably had left a macro running to farm for that item Shen Yuan had asked him for. With no one to talk to, Shen Yuan clicked the Login button, and then everything went black.

Shen Yuan’s dream was strangely quiet. He could hear a humming in his ears and as he opened his eyes he realized he was standing. A void of darkness surrounded him, and he found himself walking towards a bamboo grove. A door was situated before him, the frame strangely familiar, yet when would he have seen this before?

Shen Yuan ran his fingers across the wooden frame and looked at the stone tablet placed to the side. Squatting down he could read, [Qing Jing Sect - Leader Shen Qingqiu]
Wait. He’d dreamed of being in the game before, but this time felt so real? He looked up at the top of the frame and reached out to the hanging Jade pendants he had placed there when he opened up his Sect. As soon as his fingers touched the hanging object he was bombarded with the bright blue light of a pop up screen, the harshness blinding to his unaccustomed eyes.

[Welcome user “Shen Qingqiu”! Enjoy your adventure!]

In an instant before he could even process the bizarre Google Translate voice welcoming him, he was blinded once more as the space around him fluttered to life. The darkness peeled away to reveal a paved road, the walls around him a stark white, yet meticulously carved with Bamboo imagery. Behind him a large building stood, green and white silks hanging from the beams, cascading the rooms in an aesthetic that he knew all too well. This was the Sect hall for Qing Jing Peak. The wind carried the fresh smell of rain and he felt his hair tickle his face.

Shen Yuans lifted a hand to push the hair back, his hair hadn’t been short, but it most certainly wasn’t long enough so that it circled his face and dropped further down. No, this long beautiful hair, shimmering and immaculate, this belonged to Shen Qingqiu.
Shen Yuan glanced down to his trembling hands. The fingers longer, nails clean and not bitten down like the hands on Shen Yuan. He followed them up and around the bracers, to the billowing green sleeves of his extravagant outfit.

This. . .is this really happening? Shen Yuan looked around him, there wasn’t much noise aside from the singing of birds and the splashing of fish in the pond, a pond he had built here to celebrate the opening of his Sect to new members. Between the sound of the world he caught the sound of heavy breathing. It sounded distant, yet he could seemingly point out exactly where it was coming from. This was a game with cultivation and he was a high level player, so that seemed the most likely explanation, right?

Before heading to investigate the noise he realized, there was some sort of UI in the corner of his vision. It was transparent, yet as he acknowledged it, it came forward and presented itself. So this world was still very much made like a game it seemed. With that knowledge he made the motion he had watched his character make many a time to pull up his character menu.

[Player Name: Shen Qingqiu . Sect Leader: Qing Jing Peak under Cang Qiong Mountain Guild. Level: 150 Ascended. Race:Human. Class: Ascended to Elementalist.]

So everything looked the same, all his gear and skills were intact. That was a good sign at least, he should be able to fend for himself very well. Even if this was a dream, or his new reality, he was going to enjoy it! After all he was such a powerful and cool character, he couldn’t let that go to waste.

So off he headed towards the sound coming from what he hoped to be another person. As he walked along he could only hope that with everything going on, he wouldn’t trip on his robes.
