“I have a request”, Giorno finally whispers, opening his eyes and meeting Abbacchio’s gaze. He looks scary, like he’s going to say something Abbacchio has a feeling he won’t want to hear.
“Can we pretend to be in love for tonight?”
The words take Abbacchio completely by surprise, and for a moment he just stares. Giorno looks serious, without a hint of doubt or remorse. Abbacchio’s heart jolts into a race, so hard he thinks Giorno must hear it, and his hands grip Giorno’s hips without his permission. He doesn’t understand anything, can’t figure out whether this is a joke or some sick new game Giorno wants to play.
“Why?” he manages after a moment’s silence. “Why the fuck would we do that?”
