Summary
It wasn't completely forbidden, but it was taboo. For nothing good, both morally and socially, could come from it. They were raised in different worlds opposite of a wall, believing nothing good of their other.
Time and circumstance however would change the view of their world and each other. Their country would surely punish them for it.
