“Wei Ying.” Lan Zhan’s cold voice broke through the loud clamor of the kitchen and Wei Wuxian passed a skillet off to one of the other chefs and stepped out for a second- when his husband used that tone, Wei Wuxian knew better than to avoid him.
“Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian asked, smiling at his husband who looked quite out of place in the raucous kitchen of the Yiling Patriarch. “What brought you out of Cloud Recesses today?” Not that Wei Wuxian minded, he thought as he threaded their fingers together. He always loved seeing his husband and his minions, sorry, apprentices, could handle the kitchen right now. Lan Zhan’s traditional white suit was glowing and Wei Wuxian knew it would look even more impressive under the blacklight in the actual seating area. “I know you didn’t come in for a quick bite.” Not that Lan Zhan didn’t love Wei Wuxian’s food, it was just that...well, Lan Zhan definitely preferred the fare of Cloud Recesses.
“The date.” Lan Zhan answered succinctly, never one to waste words. When Wei Wuxian continued to not get it, Lan Zhan generously spoke some more. “Elder brother pointed it out.”
So there was something special about the date and Lan Xichen knew about it… No, Wei Wuxian still didn’t have a clue what it was. He wrapped an arm around Lan Zhan, relaxing into his arms. “I don’t know, Lan Zhan,” He admitted with a slight whine as he nuzzles Lan Zhan’s neck. “What’s so special about today?” It’s not either of their two anniversaries, it’s not a grand opening for anyone in their circle, it’s not the anniversary of him opening the Yiling Patriarch either...
“Wei Ying came back to me four years ago.” Lan Zhan replied quietly, gently kissing Wei Wuxian’s forehead.
Had it really been...Wei Wuxian frowned, thinking about the date. “We’ve still got a week, Lan Zhan.” He pointed out. It would be hard to forget Lan Qiren shouting at him in the middle of Cloud Recesses’s busiest hour or the first time he’d seen Lan Zhan after five years when he’d cut off contact with just about everyone he’d ever known to protect them.
“Last guilty member of Wen Family sentenced.” Lan Zhan pointed out. “Wei Ying came back to me.”
Wei Wuxian blushed a bit. “Yes, Lan Zhan, I did.” He turned away from Lan Zhan, but kept holding his hands- his husband wasn’t getting away from him that easy. “Shiji, you’re in charge of the kitchen. Lan Zhan and I are taking an early leave.”
Jin Yanli appeared beside him with a wide grin and immediately stole his apron, all but pushing him and Lan Zhan out the door. “Yes, go. Have fun you too. Jin Zixuan and I will take care of everything. Don’t let him come back, Lan Zhan, not for everything.” And then they were in the back lot behind the Yiling Patriarch as the door shut hard behind them. Under another circumstance, Wei Wuxian might have pouted to be thrown out of the kitchen he’d fought to get back, but it was his Elder Sister and it meant he got to spend time with Lan Zhan.
“So what’s the plan, Lan Zhan?” Wei Ying asked curiously, sliding a hand into Lan Zhan’s back pocket. Anyone else would’ve gotten the infamous cold stare of Lan Zhan, but his husband just wrapped an arm around him, pulling him close.
“Home.” Lan Zhan cemented the word with a kiss, causing Wei Wuxian to moan and press against Lan Zhan. “Shameless.” Lan Zhan whispered against Wei Wuxian’s lips, even as he stole another kiss.
“You love me being shameless.” Wei Wuxian teased, not caring that they were literally just in the back lot. He always tried to be exciting.
Lan Zhan, however, pulled away. This caused Wei Wuxian to whine again and try to reach for Lan Zhan, who easily batted him away and guided him towards the car. Wei Wuxian didn’t bother with a car in the city, which meant Lan Zhan had bought his own and was the exclusive driver for it. Wei Wuxian’s one issue with Lan Zhan driving was that he’d have to keep his hands to himself and that was hard when he was sitting beside Wei Wuxian, looking gorgeous. It wasn’t fair.
“Are you sure we can’t catch a cab?” Wei Wuxian wheedled. At least he could fool around in the backseat with Lan Zhan that way. A raised eyebrow was the response he got and Wei Wuxian did not sulk as he slumped into the car. Well, maybe he did. Just a little bit.
The ride was short, thankfully, and Lan Zhan had the magical touch that meant there was always a free parking spot for him, usually the one right beside the door, so he pulled in easily and got out. Wei Wuxian stole a kiss as he got out of the passenger seat. If he got time with his husband, he wasn’t going to waste it. Especially since they’d soon have an adorable but small child under foot.
Once again, Wei Wuxian tried to valiantly distract Lan Zhan from whatever was waiting in their apartment, but he was a man on a mission. He simply picked Wei Wuxian up and carried him in. The doorman smiled knowingly at them as he let them in. And to think, seven years ago Lan Zhan would have blushed to be caught in such a position! Now he didn’t so much as blink.
“You can put me down now,” Wei Wuxian pointed out, even as he snuggled closer and nibbled at Lan Zhan’s neck. Lan Zhan hummed and tightened his grip.
When they got into the apartment, Lan Zhan laid Wei Wuxian out on their (very comfortable) couch and he stretched out, unbuttoning his top and grinning in delight as his husband’s eyes followed his fingers.
“Wei Ying.” Lan Zhan reminded him, but it was a soft tone so he knew he wasn’t in trouble, Lan Zhan just had something to do before he fucked Wei Wuxian. He could live with that.
Lan Zhan disappeared into the kitchen and returns with a tray laden with food. There’s only one pair of chopsticks though and Wei Wuxian blushes when he realizes what this means. He swallows as heat rises in his chest and prepares himself. With their schedules, it’s rare that Lan Zhan can completely take care of Wei Wuxian, ease him into subspace and keep him there, but that’s evidently what’s happening tonight. All the stress Wei Wuxian didn’t even realize he was carrying in his shoulders drains out as Lan Zhan settles on the couch, arranging Wei Wuxian as he likes and starts feeding him. It doesn’t take long for him to drift, blissfully peaceful and very safe in Lan Zhan’s arms.
