    At sixteen Wei Wuxian is—through some strange twist of fate, or a nick in the layer between parallel universes, who knows—out of the blue confronted with that one incense burner dream one night.

    While his curious mind is left unable to stop poking at this new perspective on Lan Wangji, circumstances in the Cloud Recesses begin to change and Wei Wuxian is suddenly presented with life-altering opportunities.

    Maybe Gusu isn’t so bad after all?

    (Or alternatively: The fic where I get to give Wei Wuxian the academic scholarship he deserves while simultaneously getting him hitched early on.)

    Socked feet scrambled across wooden floors for a brief moment until the apartment fell silent. The silence was broken by the violent sound of fabric being ripped apart. The remaining coat fell to the ground with a thud, except for the belt, which Lan Zhan held in his hands.

     

    Raising his head, he inhaled deeply and steadily moved towards the scent of cinnamon.

    “Four hundred million.” A voice calls out confidently from the back. His cadence is smooth and calm, his pitch deep and rich and sounding like molasses in an audible form. Hearing it makes the fluffy ears on top of Wei Ying’s head flick with a shudder of his shackled body.

    It’s been so long, thirteen years in fact, since Wei Ying has last heard or seen of Lan Zhan. But Wei Ying could never once forget what he sounded like.

    Or, When Wei Ying is sold off by the Jiangs to the Jins, Jin Guangshan arranges for him to be sold due to his fertility and species in one of his popular hybrid auctions. The appearance of a Lan dragon saves him, however Wei Ying learns that the Lans have an ulterior motive.

    He accepts their proposition.

    An incredulous noise broke from Wei Wuxian’s throat. “I’m not going to add ‘making Hanguang-Jun sleep on the floor and catch a cold’ to my list of heinous crimes.” He muttered, “You can take the bed. I’m up half the night anyway.”
