Work Text:
The cafeteria was buzzing with anticipation. It was the night before the newly recruited Scouts member’s first mission and everyone was hyped up. They knew how dangerous titans were and they could die in any minutes, but that still couldn’t take away their enthusiasm because of the mission.
”I am so excited!” Mina said before biting a bit e down from her bread. ”We will see what is beyond the walls!”
”Don’t be so easy-going, Pinky!” Bakugou said, stuffing some food in his mouth. ”It won’t be a walk in the park!” He said after swallowing the bite down.
”You’ve nothing to worry about, man!” Kaminari said, draping his arm over Jirou’s shoulder. ”You were the best cadet in our training squad.”
”He is right. You are more than capable of doing this,” Sero agreed and Mina nodded too.
”Too much confidence only leads to a person’s doom,” Shinsou mumbled and all the team looked at him.
”Toshi! We were trying to cheer him up here!” Mina exclaimed, throwing her arms up to the air. Sero patted her hair in an attempt to calm her down.
”But there is something in what Hitoshi says,” Jirou commented and all eyes turned on her. ”If you are not perceptive enough, you are done for. All of you have read those statistics about how many shoulders were died out there.”
”Please, don’t remind me!” Kaminari groaned, feeling a shiver running down his spine.
”We understood – we need to be more cautious about this mission than excited,” Eijirou said the finish line. He threw his arms over his boyfriend’s shoulder and kissed him on the temple. After that, all of them returned to their meals.
All of the sudden, Bakugou looked up and whipped his head towards the direction of the table beside the wall. His eyes met with two worried green ones and he felt his lips turning into a snarl.
”What do you want, fucking Deku?!” The boy let out a yelp and turned back to his dinner.
”It’s so cute how much he is worried about you,” Mina teased and Bakugou let out a huff.
”Of course he does. You two are childhood friends, right?” Sero asked and got another huff as an answer.
”But I was really surprised when Midoriya decided to be a Scout just like all of us,” Kirishima mused, touching his chin.
”The nerd’s always wanted to see what was beyond those fucking walls,” Bakugou said as if it was the most simple reason for someone to go to the Scouts – at it really was.
”He doesn’t seem the fighting type to me,” Hitoshi said. ”I hope he will manage.” Bakugou narrowed his eyes at him and Kirishima almost hit himself on the forehead.
”So much for easing the mood,” Jirou said with a sigh.
After he had got caught Izuku fixated his gaze on his plate, his hands clenching into fists. Saying he was worried would be an understatement.
He had known Bakugou for as long as he could remember. The ash-blond had always been hot-headed and acted before thinking if one of his loved ones was in danger. As a young boy, Izuku thought that there was nothing cooler than that, but right then – before their first mission – he reconsidered his opinion about his best friend’s behavior.
Izuku felt a small tap on his shoulder and when he looked up, he found himself face to face with two narrowed mismatching eyes. He sent his boyfriend a kind of reassuring smile, but he knew he didn’t take it. Todoroki was smarter than that.
”You have nothing to worry about, Midoriya,” Izuku heard a voice and turned his head towards it. One of his best friends smiled at him from across the table with confidence. ”Bakugou might’ve been careless at the beginning of our five years training, but he had grown more than I had expected he would.”
”And since he and Kirishima-kun had got together, he started putting other’s safety before his own,” the girl beside the bespectacled boy spoke up. ”I am sure he wouldn’t do anything that would put us in danger tomorrow.”
”Thank you, Iida-kun, Uraraka-san!” Izuku thanked his two best friends and his lips curved in a genuine smile.
He felt a tug on his sleeve and from the corner of his eye, he saw the boy beside him pouting. He covered his mouth with the back of his hand and the pout only deepened. No one would’ve believed him, if he told them Todoroki Shouto was quite the jealous type.
”I am more than grateful for you worrying about me too, Shou-chan!” He said and pecked him on the cheeks.
”You're welcome,” Todoroki mumbled and really wanted to hide his face into his hands.
