Spicing Things Up

Summary:

Dazai Holiday Week 2019, Day 3: Cinnamon

Oda and Dazai interrupt Chuuya's holiday baking to make plans. Dazai quickly gets distracted by the cinnamon, and Dazai-typical chaos ensues.

Work Text:

Dazai is and always will be the embodiment of chaos -- that, Chuuya is sure of. All he wanted to do was do some holiday baking when the brunet had so rudely let himself in to his home and interrupted.

The waste of bandages wasn’t the only one who had been let in, judging by the footfalls coming from the entryway.

“Chuuya~” Dazai singsonged, causing the shorter male to cringe. That way of calling his name never boded well for him.

“What the fuck do you want, shithead? I’m in the middle of something,” Chuuya snapped, eyes narrowed as he finally turned to face his two “guests.” They were both dressed casually -- extremely so, and Chuuya couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen Oda in just a hoodie and jeans.

“We wanted to know if you were doing anything this weekend.” This time it was Oda who spoke, the low timber of his voice already starting to calm Chuuya’s anger.

Oh.

This weekend was Christmas. It wasn’t like he had anywhere to go other than Kouyou’s place, but she preferred to do things on Christmas Eve, as to not impede on any potential plans Chuuya may have. Not that he usually had any, unless Dazai dragged him out to do something.

“I know Dazai’s free, but… are you not going to go see the kids? I thought that’s what you always did for Christmas, Oda.” Chuuya knew that Oda always went to go see the kids at the orphanage, and he usually bought presents for them and spent the day playing and reading them stories until it was time for dinner. He’d feel bad if he got in the way of that.

Oda simply gave him a small smile. “I already explained to them that I’m going to start coming to visit on Christmas Eve instead. That way I have Christmas Day open for you two. I think it’s only fair that I shift things around now that we’re in this together.”

This , referring to their relationship. It was odd, Chuuya thought, but he didn’t seem to mind it so much. Dazai was quite interested in them both, but when it was brought up, Chuuya was hesitant. He didn’t know much more about Oda than what his friend had told him. Dazai said that they didn’t have to date if they didn’t want to.

One thing led to another, and Oda and Chuuya started hanging out more, even without Dazai, and now they were a messy triangle of affection and support. Now, Chuuya couldn’t see his life any other way.

“Wait, Dazai, what the fuck are you doing?!”

While Chuuya had gotten lost in thought, Dazai had gotten a spoon and was digging into the container of cinnamon that was on the counter. The brunet looked up, but instead of looking embarrassed that he’d been caught, he was grinning.

“I’m gonna eat some cinnamon! It’s so good when you put it in stuff, Chuuya! Besides, you’ve seen those videos, haven’t you?” Dazai laughed before resuming what he was doing, making sure he had a nice amount of the powdery substance on the spoon.

“Dazai, I really don’t think you should do it,” Oda said softly, but instead of even attempting to physically take the spoon away from him, he was getting a glass down from the cabinet and filling it with room temperature water.

“Aww, you say that, but you really wanna see what happens~” Dazai popped the spoon into his mouth before Chuuya or Oda could say another word on the subject.

The room was silent except for the few sounds of Dazai attempting to wet all of the cinnamon so he could swallow it. Unsurprisingly, he must have managed to inhale some, because he was sent into a coughing fit. Chuuya sighed and rolled his eyes, and Oda handed him the glass of water.

“This is why we tell you not to do stupid things, moron,” Chuuya grumbled, shaking his head as he went back to his baking. “Go watch tv and stay out of the kitchen until I’m done, or you don’t get to taste test anything for the entire holiday.”

Once Dazai’s coughing was under control, he stood there with a pout as Oda rubbed his back. “Fiiiine, but Chuuya’s still a meanie. And we still wanna come over on Christmas.”

Chuuya glanced back at his two partners and he couldn’t help but smile softly. “Yeah, you can. Just make sure it’s at a reasonable time, okay?”

“Got it, 2am! It’s a date~” Dazai laughed as he moved when Chuuya threw a spoon at him, going to pick it up and put it in the sink after. “Yeah yeah, we’ll let you get your beauty sleep.” He left the room and Chuuya just huffed.

Finally returning to his baking, he allowed himself to relax and continue, only to be surprised by an arm around his waist. He blinked, looking up just as Oda leaned in for a kiss.

“Let me know if you want any help with the baking, okay? I’m sure I can amuse Dazai for a bit in the meantime.” Chuuya smiled warmly up at his boyfriend, leaning up just slightly to press another kiss to his lips.

“Thank you, Oda,” he murmured. “I’ll let you know. I’m looking forward to this weekend.” Chuuya turned to his baking again as he felt the arm slip away, and he listened as footsteps faded into the other room.

Christmas music started blasting from the living room as Dazai started singing horribly off-key, and Chuuya just sighed.
