One for the Love, All for the Crown

Summary:

In a fairytale-like parallel world, you're chosen as one of the Selecteds to be the potential bride of the future King, Jeon Jungkook. Though you want to live a peaceful life with no royal shenanigans involved, everything changes when you meet Jeon Jungkook in person. Not only is this tall dashing Prince the troubling youngest heir to the seven kingdoms, he's also surprisingly not the cold-blooded person the media portrays.

But you aren't the only serious one running for future Queen. Other Selecteds are conspiring against one another, and friends turn into foes at a moment's notice. A dark plot is blooming in the background while the Selection continues, and it's threatening the stability of the seven kingdoms with its effects. To make it worse, you're the inexperienced human in the middle of it all.

It's okay, though, right? What can go wrong?

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

"What. No. No no no no no," words are spilling out of your mouth as you stare at the big screen. Your spoon drops in your bowl of cereal, clinking against the white plastic. The screen had bolded letters, a picture of a girl sitting down against a blue background.

Letters with your name on the provincial t.v. With a picture of you, looking dumb as heck; your graceful but braces-filled teeth smile, and your big squared glasses looking back at the camera.

Of course, it's been years since you've taken this picture, and you've changed a lot because the braces came off, and you use night contacts now, or occasionally glasses once or twice.

"Ren! Get your ass back up and get to cleaning!" Your face scrunches up and your stomach flips over in disgust. The cereal swims uncomfortably through your intestines as you splash the rest into the garbage.

"Yes, step-mommie!" You sing, moving to grab the vacuum while your step-mother watches the t.v.

You hate her. Not because of the stereotypical step-mom that she is, but because your life is a Cinderella story without the two step-sisters and the charming prince and ball gowns. Your dad cherishes her more than you, but sometimes remembers your important dates and gifts you things you somehow needed desperately. Still, most of the time he dotes on your 'mother' and won't hesitate to take her side. Your only comfort is your best friend, Rae.

"Why are you vacuuming, huh?" she storms towards you and you stop, drop, and yeet out of the way, "The t.v's too quiet even when it's at top volume! Get out get out!"

"Yes, step-mommie!" You reply, "Bye step-mommie!"

Your stepmom grabs you by your sleeve and yanks your hair, glaring at you, "What did I say about not calling me that? You brat?"

"Don't call you step-mommie?" You frown, "Then what do I call you? A less motherly replacement?"

"You son of a bitch!" She grabs your wrist and twists it tightly, "What did you say?"

"A less motherly replacement? Oh hi, dad!" You smile, looking behind her and she releases you for a moment, allowing you to run away.

From behind you, you hear her screaming your name and the t.v blurting something out.

"...officials will come tomorrow to pick up the lucky girl, Kim Ren!"

You are inevitably fucked up.

~

"Ren, you have no idea how happy- oh," your friend stops short of hugging you and frowns, "what's wrong? You got picked! You should be happy right?"

"You know how I am," you shrug, "and you know how EN has been, you've heard of the rumours."

To be honest, you aren't completely sure if the rumours are true. Surely not, since there's no way that these could be true. Rumours of the Crowned Prince, Jeon Jungkook, being a bloodthirsty vampire. No, it just didn't seem possible. Maybe figuratively, but definitely not the other way.

He looked human to you. Besides, vampires don't exist. At least, that's what you think. No, you are sure of it. Vampires don't exist. If they do, you would be dead a hundred times already, since you constantly break the curfew and sneaks out.

"EN just wants some gossip," Rae sighed, sitting down beside you on the old swings, "like always. You remember when the King was going out for 'too long' and EN sent the country into a riot thinking he was having an affair. The Queen ordered death sentence to the publisher, and man, we haven't seen her since. She looked so nice though..." she sighed.

You nod but is unable to say anything. She smiles and pats

your head like a little kid, even though you're not and you're as old as her.

Well, that's not exactly true. You are technically one 'day' younger than her since she was born on 11:59 and you were on 12:00 of the next day. How unfortunate.

"Why did you come here?" she asks, and you shrug, planting a smile on your face.

"You know," You roll your eyes and imitate your stepmother's voice, "why are you vacuuming when the t.v is on? Hey! Get away from here! Hey! Then I yeeted away as fast as possible."

Rae raised an eyebrow at you, "Yeet?"

You stood up and made a whooshing sound with your mouth, while your hands imitated the running away.

"Yeet."

You're not sure she understood it at all though.

"Is that one of your words?" Rae raised an eyebrow, "Last time I checked, yeet wasn't in the dictionary."

"Last time I checked, you don't even have a dictionary," you retorted, earning a harsh but playful slap on the shoulder, "ow!"

"Oh! I know, it's one of his words isn't it?" Her eyes twinkled and your eyebrows twitched in annoyance, "Hmm? That boy you were talking about."

"What boy?" you asked, turning your face away from her so she wouldn't have to see it, "Hmm?"

Rae came over and tapped your cheeks lightly. You wrinkled your nose and slapped it away.

"Your bro," Rae grinned, "the one who you always talk to. You talk to him so much you surely must've forgotten about me!"

"If I forgot about you, then I wouldn't be here right now!" you rolled your eyes, "You're just jealous, Rae! Jealous of my relationship with my bro!"

"What? No I'm not-"

Her words are cut off by a strangled scream, seeping into your bones.

Rae's eyes stare at you and looks towards the sound. Your eyes move there and catch a blurry shadow in the alley.

Without a word, both of you jump down from the swings and run towards the direction.

What can you say, you two are pure trouble makers and adventure seekers.
