I would like to first and foremost thank mi corazon for the endless support they have given me. Thank you so much for the constant reminder to rest, constant reminder to keep on going!

Secondly, I would like to dedicate this to my recipient. I really hope you will enjoy this! I was a bit scared of not being able to fulfill the two tropes you have written, so I tried to give a bit of both? Anyways, I really hope you'll enjoy it.

Work Text:

T'was a few days before Christmas, a lovely evening with a very chilly weather, the air encircles you with gush of cold embrace, the sounds of happy children laughing and chirping can be heard along with their pitter-patter footsteps either skipping or running along the brick pavement of the shopping mall. It was a lovely day to spend time with your lover or your loved ones that aren’t your lover, because they exist, of course. Time to time, you would wonder why by having a chill hangout session, or more known as ‘date’ with your lover at the mall is one of the most enjoyable activities and satisfying feelings you could ever feel. That is because-

“Oof!” comes the sound out of Taehyung’s mouth after he felt a rather abrupt force colliding with his left shoulder.

Taehyung snaps his head up, his glasses tilted slightly on the bridge of his nose, jet black hair brushed off just by a tiny bit, only to find that he had just bump into someone, rather brashly, and that someone is now looking at him, with one of his brows furrowed up, silently demanding an apology. To which Taehyung cave of course, rather not bringing attention to himself, even though he is not even in the slightest bit bothered by how the man gaze down on him. He mutters his apology quietly and be on his way, not giving that man another glance, pondering about his narrative thoughts that had just disappeared upon the harsh body contact.

Yes, when alone, Taehyung loves to narrate his thoughts over a speckle of word or image that pops up into his mind. It keeps his mind occupied. Usually happens when he felt uneasy and unsettled, and as of now Taehyung is really close to being in his self-proclaimed nervous-panic mode as his thoughts runs wildly, while his feet saunter across the brick pavement, making his way towards the familiar store, stopping right in front of the window, directly in front of the items Taehyung has taken interest in.

He eyed the two particular items that caught his eyes, pondering if either of these two items are the ones he finally decide to make a purchase or to just drop the thought and look for something else. Although time is passing by rather swiftly, and he certainly have not thought of another option aside from these two. This is not the first time he has been here, standing in front of the display window, at the very same spot, no. In fact, he has been pacing back and forth in front of this very jewelry store for the past few days now.

He suspects that the shop assistants within the separator between the inside and the outside of the store may have recognised him, or at least his figure. He just hope they didn’t take him as some sort of creep or potential ‘robber’ or something. He is just an innocent man trying to buy a gift, that he’s still uncertain of. Either way, the shop assistants still has not batted their eyelashes whenever they make eye contact with Taehyung, to urge him to come in and spend his money on what could be an added bonus for them. And here I thought a wonderful shop assistant would offer immediate assistance when someone is in need of that assistance. Bummer.

Taehyung leans against the brick wall of the store, taking a breather as he tries to keep himself calm and collected, playing it cool when he himself knows that this is all just a facade, a mask he needs to put up as to not give his emotions away through his facial expressions. He’s an expert at that, has been doing it his whole life. Hence, why he doesn’t really understand how some part of him loses that control over his own actions, whenever it concerns Jimin. Jimin, his boyfriend. His lovely boyfriend, his person. Thoughts of Jimin suddenly flooded his mind, and Taehyung unconsciously curl his lip into a tiny smile at the image of Jimin, with his soft pink hair, favourite oversized sweater and skinny jeans gracing his legs, smiling happily at him.

Jimin, his boyfriend. He can never get used to these words, ‘his boyfriend’. As if it is some sort of a play in a dreamlike reality, one he never hoped to actually have. He’s a vigilante, an undercover agent of a group within the community that is protecting the safety of magical creatures within the magical realms (connected with human world) from being exposed openly amongst humans, especially a particular well-hidden organisation, which was formed through a secret society, where it is fed upon the idea to expose and take advantage of the creatures for their own benefit - Hunstman Inc, or chaser as how he would rather call them. An organisation that is so outrageous and horrible, Taehyung learns, as not only does exposing the magical creature towards the shockingly pretentious humans, who but all isn’t noble all the time, will bring harm to their realm and lives, but it will also ultimately lead them to their main goal of capturing and annihilate the noble dragons.

It’s a complicated life Taehyung has been living in, however he never have any regrets all this while as this is what he enjoys doing. He has chosen this lifestyle since he was in highschool - especially after his first encounter with a dragon. In truth, dragons are the main protector of magical creatures, Taehyung only step up within the shadows and work in silence when he can. Due to this, he was met with another group of people that shares the same views as him, the group to which he is providing his undercover services too and assist him further with his interest in protecting magical creatures - lurker. Due to his lifestyle as well, he was met with Jimin, while he was on a mission, field-duty of scouting the enemies’ vehicle.

Taehyung saved Jimin from the chasers, and ever since, Jimin never left his side. Taehyung doesn’t understand why would he want to stick around with him either, but he’s grateful for it. Jimin, a tiny fairy with the biggest heart and guts that Taehyung has ever encountered. Jimin enters his life within a short period of time, however, his presence left a very strong impact on Taehyung that he knows if he’s not able to see Jimin’s smile even for a day, the day will just be filled with grey. It’s still surreal to him that all his life he has been living a solitary life, solely focusing on protecting magical creatures and now, he’s trying to adjust, co-existing with one. It’s not easy, old habits die hard but Taehyung tries. He tries for the sake of Jimin’s happiness and for once, maybe his own, if he dares to admit.

With all thoughts of Jimin flooded his mind, Taehyung managed to calm down a few moments after and recollect himself to oversee the items on the display window again. He didn’t think that buying a gift would be this hard, but here he is, perched up in front of the said window yet again. Except, this time there is a brand new entity that is unrecognizable in Taehyung’s register. He slowly looks up to be met by the gaze of a shop assistant, who is looking at him dubiously, eyes full of questions and uncertainty. Taehyung looks directly into her eyes, trying his best not to let his facial expression falter, blinks innocently while not being obvious enough to swallow the invisible gulp formed in his throat. Oh no, someone is actually making a direct contact with me.

The shop assistant then offers him a soft smile, welcoming him, as she gestures her hands towards the two items Taehyung is interested in. He blinks, then returns the smile and nod his head. Okay, there is actually a shop assistant who is probably willing to help me in purchasing the gift. This is good. This is good right? Oh calm down Tae, you wanted this help but can’t even make yourself go inside and ask. Opportunity has been given to you, now you really should go. Taehyung’s eye twitch once, silently panicking while still maintaining his proudful facade of unreadable facial expression. The shop assistant motion her hands towards the door, urging for him to come in. He smiles again, took a deep breath once and make his way towards the store’s entry. It’s now or never, Tae. Let’s go. For Jimin.

And so Taehyung did. After days of walking in front of the same shop, unsure if that is what he wants to go for, he finally did get the assistance that he wanted. He asked for the assistant’s opinion on the two items he’s interested in, he asked for the assistant’s other choices if there’s any while trying to describe Jimin’s personality and interest, if any of those could help them. He tried browsing other items too, to see if there’s any that would fit his budget or would look great on Jimin. At some point, he may came off as a bit too enthusiastic, from the way the other assistants look at him, the one who assist him tries to control her facial expression to (to be kind) but at this point, he doesn’t care anymore. All he knows is that he got what he wanted, he’s done with the purchase, he can check off ‘buying Jiminie the nicest Christmas present accessible this year’ on his list. He leaves the store feeling very content with his choices, after all the days trying to seek advice from a fellow friend (colleague, he prefers) and the pressure of trying to come up with gift options.

It’s festive season, days really close to Christmas. Christmas, the holiday that is full of hope and wonder and everything that is as merry as it can be, where giving gifts to lovers or loved ones become a norm. Normally Taehyung would feel indifferent and treat Christmas like it is just another normal day for him, as he does each and every year. However, it’s different this year. Jimin loves Christmas, he has spoken about the wonderfulness and breathtaking atmosphere of his realm during this joyous holiday, how everyone would come together and gather, have a wonderful potluck dinner under the beautiful night sky and make a countdown the night of Christmas Eve, as snow would fall once the clock strikes midnight. It’s truly a magical ambience and overall nice mood all around. It’s Jimin’s favourite holiday and Taehyung does not want to screw that up.

He wants to at least make Jimin’s first Christmas celebration in the human world as nice as it can be, to at least live up to Jimin’s realm expectation, even though he knows it’s rather impossible. A human world trying to live up to magical realm’s expectations? Definitely impossible. So Taehyung opt for the next best thing: to have a delightful Christmas celebration with Jimin instead. A wonderful dinner (he can’t cook, so maybe he’ll take Jimin out for a nice meal on Christmas Eve) then they can have a nice stroll around town, watching the Christmas light shows that has been set up for the occasion. And before the day is over, he can give his gift to him, just to show Jimin how much he means to him. Hence, coming up with a gift to give Jimin has already turned Taehyung into a frenzy.

Taehyung may be a genius in almost everything he does, but he won't deny the fact that he is clueless when it comes to being in a relationship and having another person being so involved in his life. He's learning though, he tries to learn from Jimin and through Jimin. He tries to seek advice from Jungkook, his only colleague that he may acknowledge as a friend (Jungkook's statement, not Taehyung's), more so because Jungkook's boyfriend, Seokjin gives great advice. He trusts Seokjin's advice and input more than Jungkook's, for reasons that Taehyung couldn’t explain properly. Even going to the jewelry store or roaming around the mall in hopes to find the perfect gift was Seokjin’s idea. He’s grateful for that.

Taehyung’s feet and thoughts came to a stop once he realised he is in front of a big Christmas tree, fully decorated with lovely and colourful ornaments, faux presents were presented underneath the trees to completely capture the image of a Christmas tree during Christmas morning. Bright, colourful lights were decorated all around the mall as well, with lighted up Christmas reindeer lights in a few corners of the mall, a santa figure lights near the Christmas tree and by the exit of the mall. Many variations of lights from bells to trees to garland - it was just a beautiful sight. Taehyung really wants to bring Jimin here for once. He glanced towards his watch at the thought of Jimin. It’s almost time. He smiles softly to himself, fixing his loose muffler, and took off his glasses (one that he only wore when he’s at work) after noting the chilly weather as dusk soon approaches, making a stride towards the exit of the shopping mall.

It’s almost time for Jimin to get off work.

⚝⚝⚝⚝

The road to Jimin’s workplace took Taehyung approximately 15 minutes of walking, not that it matters anyways. It is the same road to his and Jimin’s apartment, the very same direction. He pulled his jacket closer to his body, as the cold December chill starts to creep on his body, embracing even the slightest of warmth his jacket could provide, every step he took a second closer he is to greet Jimin. It’s one of the most exciting parts of his day, after being away from him for almost 10 hours due to his work. Greeting Jimin after a long day of being a persona that he played, a role he has been doing for years at his workplace, lifted up his spirit and elated him. Taehyung’s face brightens as he sees the familiar shop which holds Jimin. After making sure that he has kept Jimin’s gift in his bag, he approaches the shop.

A tinkle ringing can be heard from the chiming bell dangling above the door frame, upon Taehyung entering the shop, signaling a new presence in the premise.

“Good evening!” A chirpy voice can be heard from the corner end of the shop, possibly behind one of the shelves which hold a variety of flowers with soft colours from white to pink to purple and more. As Taehyung had guess, a recognizable head with pink hair peeped out from behind one of the shelves with a cry, “I’ll be right with you in a second, sir or miss!”. Taehyung grins as he waits for Jimin, dallying around the shop, looking over some of the flowers that were displayed on a table top in front of him, skimming through the flowers until one caught his eyes, slightly interested with the colour it brings.

He heard footsteps approaching him with, “I’m sorry sir, how may I- Taehyung ah!” The tone in his voice gets even more brighter as Jimin realised it was Taehyung who entered the shop. Jimin jogs closer towards Taehyung and immediately placed himself in between Taehyung’s arms, hugging his midsection, placing his head on Taehyung’s chest, a comfortable space. “Hi.” Jimin looks up to Taehyung, bright smile decorating his lips, all his teeth showing on display, his eyes squinched up as if it’s about to disappear, almost crescent moon-like shape. It lightens up the whole room instantly (Taehyung’s opinion), “What are you doing here? Did you got off work early today?”

“I, uh, I, yeah hehe, I did got off work early,” He lies, he in fact didn’t get off work early. He just didn’t want to participate in his office’s week of social gathering and bonding session. He has been coming up with all sorts of excuses to not deal with those social gatherings, and thankfully, since he is only the organisation’s office clerk, a rather distant and aloof one too (his undercover role), his colleagues’ do not really mind of his absence anyways. Been skipping it for years, and he’s not intending to start socializing with them either way. That is one of the reasons why he is able to spend a lot of  time at the mall this week, too. Thank god. “And I remembered that your shift is ending soon, so I thought I could pick you up today from work.” Taehyung smiles.

“That is so cute and adorable of you, Taehyungie.” Jimin coos, shaking his body while still being in Taehyung’s arms, hugging Taehyung closer as if they can get any closer than they already are right now. Taehyung blushes profusely, laughing nervously as Jimin gets more affectionate with him in the shop. It’s not like this is the first time Jimin is being overly cuddly and affectionate towards Taehyung in a public area, Jimin always does this. For some reason,  Taehyung is in between of not used to this and used to this. He would be surprised if Jimin is not affectionate and he will still be surprised if Jimin is affectionate to him. Maybe because he just doesn’t know how to react, even though it has been months. Jimin is just naturally open with his feelings and do not hesitate to show it, wherever they are. Sometimes, Taehyung does too when he’s too overwhelmed or in to his feelings.

“So are you almost done for the day? Or do you still have customers around that needs your assistance?” Taehyung looks around to see the shop’s surroundings. It seems pretty laid back and there is no one around within what can be captured by Taehyung’s vision. “Or do you need to lock up the shop today? I don’t see Mrs Lee around.” Taehyung stated, looking right back at Jimin.

Before Jimin could answer, a soft voice was heard, greeting Taehyung, “Oh, good evening, Taehyung.”

Taehyung turns around and sees Mrs Lee, approaching them with a welcoming smile on her face. Mrs Lee is the shop owner of this small florist, very familiar with Taehyung and has taken a liking with Jimin almost instantly, treating them both like a close neighbour instead of an individual who works for her and his boyfriend. Taehyung was the one who introduces Jimin to Mrs Lee as he was a frequent customer before. He visits the florist once in two weeks and bought flowers of Mrs Lee choice within those weeks, as an added life source to his dull apartment. If Taehyung was too busy to drop by, she would leave the flowers for Taehyung outside of the shop and Taehyung would pick it up on his way back to the apartment. Jimin loves Mrs Lee flower choices and always anticipates what kind of flowers she would recommend for Taehyung that week. Since Jimin turns human and works with Mrs Lee, Jimin is now in charge of changing and taking care of the flowers and plants in their apartment. Taehyung’s apartment before looks like a practical and boring, at least now there’s a tropical touch in every corner of their room

Not only that, Mrs Lee is also very familiar with the existence of magical realm and the existence of chaser, as she too was once an intel for lurker before she retires. It didn’t take her too long to recognise that Jimin is not from this world when Taehyung first introduces him to her. Which is why Taehyung is comfortable with the thought of Jimin working at her shop, as part of Taehyung is still a bit paranoid to let Jimin wander off alone without anyone’s knowledge. He shouldn’t be but after the incident that happened during Jimin’s birthday, he feels that he’s allowed to be worried if there was a slight chance of Jimin’s identity to be exposed. He tries not to let the thought take over his mind though, as he trusts Jimin.

Taehyung smiles back at her and returns her greeting, still holding Jimin in his embrace, both unconsciously not letting go of each other. “Good evening, Mrs Lee. Great weather we’re having today yeah?” Taehyung tries to make conversation, slowly detaching himself from Jimin, which earned a soft whine of protest from Jimin, so Taehyung proceeds to hold his hand instead, intertwining their fingers together. A content smile can be seen on Jimin’s face through the corner of Taehyung’s eyes. “It’s lovely weather, but I could use some warmth, once in a while. The cold is not meant to be enjoyed when you’re alone.” She smiles, “Did you two have any plans this evening?”

“Ah, not really. However, I did get off work early today and was thinking of taking Jimin out for dinner, a movie or a nice stroll around the park this evening, albeit the cold.” Taehyung smiles, rubbing small circles on the back of Jimin’s palm. “But if Jimin needs to close up the shop, I’ll gladly wait for him. I can help out too, so we can speed up the process.”

“That’s a nice gesture, Taehyung. Thank you very much, I appreciate your thoughts. Though, that will not be necessary. There is not much cleaning up to be done anyways so I can close the shop in a few minutes. Why don’t you two go ahead and skedaddle. Wouldn’t want to miss out that beautiful dusk-evening before the night comes in now, would you?” Mrs Lee looks at both of them with a tender smile.

“Are you sure, Mrs Lee? There’s nothing else that needs to be sorted out?” Jimin ask.

“Yes, dear. It’s all done, don’t worry. I’ll close up the shop today. You two go ahead and have fun. Mr Lee is also on his way here, so it’ll be better for me to lock up the shop” Mrs Lee insist, her smile never falters. “Thank you for your hard work today, Jimin.”

Taehyung and Jimin utter their thank yous and good evenings before she went back into one of the rooms at the back, possibly clearing up a few things or checking up on the necessary supplies. Jimin looks at Taehyung and smiles, excuses himself for a while to go to the staff room, to remove his apron and collecting his jacket and beanie, while Taehyung waits nearby the shop’s exit, trying to decide where to eat or what they will do.

They haven’t went out on a date in awhile due to Taehyung’s busy schedule, so he’s excited.

⋆⋆⋆⋆

“So, what do you have in mind today, Taehyung-ah?” Jimin beams at Taehyung, his tiny head was engulfed by the beanie he wore, the scarf wrapped cozily around his neck, and his big puffy jacket envelops his tiny figure. His right arm clutches Taehyung’s right arm, while his left hand is intertwining with Taehyung’s right hand, nestling both of their hands in Taehyung’s pocket jacket for warmth. He knows Jimin likes this, because Taehyung does too. The gentle wind of cold air accompanies them as they amble their way to town, a lot of people can be seen getting off work, either with their friends, colleagues or lovers.

“Would you like a dinner in a restaurant or dinner at the park? If you don’t mind the cold that is! What do you think?” Taehyung asks.

“Dinner at the park? How does that work?”

“Hmm, we buy a variety of good street food and eat it at a park of your choice?” Taehyung widens the stretch on his lip, curving the corner of his lip where his teeth can be seen lined up perfectly, displaying his infamous boxy smile, as Jimin would call it, a smile that is so endearing that everyone hearts could melt, as Jimin would say it.

Jimin giggles at that, holding Taehyung’s arm closer, leaning his body closer to him, loving the warmth that is Taehyung. “Sounds like fun. Let’s have dinner at the park! What would you like to eat?”

“I should be asking you that. Let’s get something that you want. What would you like to eat?”

“I’m quite hungry, so just street food won’t cover it though,” Jimin pouts, fingers on his right hand tapping lightly on Taehyung’s upper arm.

“Just tell me what you want to eat Jimin-ah.” Taehyung laughs, nudging his forehead lightly to get the answer out of his mouth which earns another pout and a whine from Jimin.

“I’m thinking of sundubu jjigae, odeng, hotteok and bungeoppang! Can we get them all?” Jimin’s eyes sparkle, emitting hope all across his body, and Taehyung find it so endearing.

“Everything sounds great Jimin-ah. I’m not too sure if we can get sundubu jjigae to go or on the street though. If we can’t get that, let’s buy ramyeon instead? Will that be okay?”

“Of course, as long as I’m with Taehyungie, it will be a pleasant dinner either way.” Jimin coos, being overly affectionate that night.

And so, they went on a little venture to the Street Food Alley, where all the amazing and mouth-watering food can be found, aroma enticing any passerby who walks along the road, slowly driving them in and losing control of their tendencies, surrendering their money to the sellers who manage to lure them in with their wonderful delicacies. Jimin is one of those that tend to lose their tendencies and easily fall for the food’s calling, Taehyung is no better but he has great self-control, while Jimin needs to be heavily controlled by Taehyung during their food conquest. It’s not easy. Jimin can get a whole lot of crazy when he loses control.

After what feels like minutes of long battle with Taehyung against Jimin and his inner self, they managed to get out of the Street Food Alley with one big packet of hotteok and bungeoppang each and sticks of odeng. Sure enough, sundubu jjigae couldn’t be found, and as such, they made their way to the convenience store to find a couple of cup ramyeons, filled it up with hot water and made their way out to the park near the convenience store, each holding their own respective cup ramyeon. It’s getting colder, so Jimin tries (discreetly) to adjust the heat of the boiling water of their cup ramyeon, so that the cold would not affect their ramyeon’s temperature and not hurting their hands as well, as they made their way to an empty bench, before propping themselves down, hotteok and bungeoppang on Taehyung’s right side while sticks of odeng on Jimin’s left side, while they sit next to each other.

“You really need to try controlling yourself, Jimin-ah.” Taehyung says, settling the food packet properly on the bench, ensuring it didn’t fall off the edge.

“Hmm? What do you mean by that Taehyung-ah?” Jimin asked, blinking at him questioningly, cheeks puffed, mouth full of noodles he slurped halfway. Lovely.

“I mean like, just now, you almost bought every street food there is after they generously give us a tiny piece of their food as a sample, to lure us in. If I didn’t try to convince you to not buy it and only buy what you ask for just now, you probably would have swept the whole alley.”

“Oh come on, Tae. You’re exaggerating,” Jimin snorts, slurping his hot ramyeon into his mouth, savouring the taste, enjoying how it warmths up his mouth and tummy. “It’s not as bad as you think it was.” Jimin shrugs off, with a smug.

“You literally said that you would spend all of your hard-earned income to enjoy all the varieties of food available there, if your money is not enough, you said you would use my money, and will use force if I don’t cooperate.” Taehyung deadpanned.

Jimin blinks at him whilst chewing his ramyeon and slowly looks away, giving more attention towards the cup ramyeon in his hand.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he mumbled softly, earning a pointed look from Taehyung. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry. I may have gone a biiit overboard with the food. Sorry, Taehyungie hehe” Jimin tries his best to charm him out of it, giving his best smiles that he knows Taehyung is weak for. “It’s a good thing you’re there and know how to control and kept me calm too, right?” He batted his eyelashes now.

“You’re too adorable it’s impossible to be mad at you even for just a moment. Just don’t go too overboard. I’m worried you will lose control and do stuff you shouldn’t,” Taehyung says, finally slurping the ramyeon into his mouth, noticing that the noodles were still as hot as when they had left the convenience store, as if the coldness of weather did not give effect to it at all, “like you did last time.”

Taehyung looks at Jimin again, who is now eating an odeng, still holding his cup noodles on his left hand.

“Did you maintained the temperature of the food? Or the temperature surrounding the food so it doesn’t lose its heat?”

“Maybe.”

“Jimin-ah, we talked about this.”

“I know, but I only maintained the heat of the food and it was very discreet! I only did it so we would at least still have warm food for our own satisfaction.” Jimin reasons, he knows Taehyung’s tone. He sounded stern, granted it was reasonable for him to be stern about Jimin using his powers, because Taehyung has advice him a number of times to not use it in public and open areas, for the sake of his safety. “It was just a tiny heat adjustment for our foods.”

“Our foods? Not just the cup noodles?”

“Yes.”

“I know you mean well, but I’m just worried okay? I’m worried about your safety and I don’t want an incident similar to last time to happen again.”

“I know, Taehyung-ah. But I was drunk at that time! It won’t happen when I’m fully aware of my actions. I know now that I have to control my liquor intake if you allow me to drink again anytime soon.” Jimin chirps, tries to lighten up the mood. It works because Taehyung looks at him with a warm smile on his face. “Please don’t be too worried, Taehyung-ah. I understand why you are, so I’ll try my best to be aware of my surroundings at all times, using my powers while I’m not under the influence of alcohol, too.”

Taehyung gaze at Jimin lovingly, feeling so wholesome just by sitting next to this man, who all in all, always catches him by surprise of how weak he can be when it comes to anything that relates to Jimin. He leans in closer, and press his lips on Jimin’s, a chaste kiss filled with adoration and fondness for the other, the mixture of cold and warm from the chill breeze and their foods can be felt, Jimin’s lips tasting rather spicy due to the noodle’s broth but never losing Jimin’s natural sweetness. He parts away after a few seconds, stops and gaze deep into his eyes, just searching anything that Jimin could convey through his eyes, and his eyes tells that they’ll be okay as long as they endure it together. Taehyung felt so comforted at that, kisses his forehead shortly before getting back to eating his neglected food.

“Still, what happened the last time, was not a total disaster. At least for me it wasn’t.” Jimin states, took another bite out of his odeng (already on his third), and brings it towards Taehyung’s mouth, a notion to feed which was immediately accepted by Taehyung, taking a bite out of the very same odeng Jimin fed on. Taehyung then reaches towards one of the packets which contained the hotteok and feeds one to Jimin first before he takes a bite from the same one as well.

“It was indeed a disaster. What are you talking about? I’m not taking you out for drinks on your birthday, ever again.” Taehyung states, with a straight-face, which Jimin protest, telling him that it was not entirely bad and disastrous.

He was reminded of the night of Jimin’s birthday, where Taehyung and Jimin went out for drinks at the bar because Jimin insist that he wants to celebrate his birthday by having a nice social gathering with Taehyung, Jungkook and his boyfriend, Seokjin over a few rounds of drinks.

It was a lovely night until Jimin went crazy.

⋆⋆⋆⋆

October 13th

Jimin got incredibly drunk on the night of his birthday, having too much to drink and enjoying his socializing session with his at-that-time roommate (bedmate) Taehyung and his only other friend, Jungkook (who was originally Taehyung’s colleague, but they click almost instantaneously from their first meeting months ago) and Jungkook’s calm but bold boyfriend, Seokjin. This was the very first time Taehyung finally caves and grant his wish, of letting him enjoy alcoholic drinks on his birthday, despite Taehyung trying to change their plans for an adventurous outing in an amusement park or a short getaway to Busan, which Jimin immediately shuts the suggestion down, insisting to go out for drinks instead and makes a firm stand on his ground.

And too much enjoyment and drinks is what has gotten them all into this mess. Apparently Jimin despite having such a low alcohol tolerance level, really enjoys drinking and he has had one too many and is now super wasted. Horribly wasted to the point where he almost reveal himself and let his powers run wild in the human world, which terrifies Taehyung to great heights. Not that he’s scared of Jimin and what he can do (which is super crazy things, sometimes Taehyung couldn’t fathom how, kept forgetting that Jimin in actuality is a powerful fairy), but the extent of him letting his powers run wild. The situation at the moment, is pretty much uncontrollable either way, with Jimin playing around with the gravitational force on inanimate objects such as the chair, stool, table and even the alcohol, letting these objects float about all around the bar, and people are freaking out over this as well, which is the main reason for Taehyung’s panic. They live in the modern age, where everything that seemed unusual, or even in the least bit out of the ordinary, or even just normal day-to-day occasions, people are bound to whipped out their cellphone- nay, their smartphones, press the camera function for instant snap or video record the course of events.

Jimin’s drunken giggles snapped Taehyung out of his pausing thoughts, standing standstill emitting the obvious panic look and reminded him of where they are in the current mess. Taehyung would like to come up with a plan to at least have the situation under their control, but that would be rather hard considering he has a flailing Jimin stumbling over into his arms, he’s chest-to-back against Taehyung, hands making wild frantic motions, moving the objects around messily, bringing up some alcohol close to him and whirls the liquid out of the bottle and into his mouth. “Oh my god, please stop drinking! You’re out of it already, no more booze for you!” Taehyung half-shouted, Jimin only respond with a hiccup and a slurred, “Noo.” Jungkook and Seokjin, who despite are in the same situation as Taehyung, should be panicking as well, yet they were more amused by the whole sight of an uncontrollable Jimin and an alarmed Taehyung, Jungkook especially.

“This is a very rare sight spotting of a frantic and frenzi Taehyung.” Jungkook but all teased, really enjoying this scenario. How could he not? All his life he has been working with Taehyung, who behaves nothing more than just like a superficial intelligence with lack of emotions most of the time, sometimes giving him the creeps in between of how much he handles his emotional control during missions and his persona role when he’s doing his daily undercover job; he knows that whatever it is going on with Jimin, is Taehyung’s genuine feelings, not a made-up role.

“Dude, is this really the time to be genuinely amazed by my lack of emotional control and calm composure when trying to solve problems?” Taehyung snaps at him, still holding Jimin in his arms, who is just spewing random words that isn’t coherent.

“See, when you word it that way, it sounds kind of unhuman like, you know?”

“I agree with my bunny boy here, it really is amazing and a wonder to see you losing your shit over trivial matters, Taehyung.” Seokjin chimes in, putting his arms over Jungkook’s shoulder. Taehyung gave him a sharp glare at that.

“How could you say this is trivial, hyung? We’re at the brink of potentially exposing what Jimin’s nature being is. You’re not supposed to enjoy this. Both of you aren’t supposed to enjoy this and should be as panic as I am. Especially you Jeon Jungkook, it’s like your damn job” Taehyung stated in the most agitated way, trying to get Jimin back up to his feet, gripping both his hands by the wrist in order to stop him from making more hand motions, at least it would lessen the movements of inanimate objects.

“True, but it’s still entertaining though. The Kim Taehyung losing his composure? It’s such a sight to be seen. I bet the others at the base would be so jealous when I told them about this incident.” Jungkook responded, his bunny teeth making an appearance during his sheepish smile. “Yeah, we never really knew that you had it in you.” Seokjin chimes in.

“I’m not even sure you should be telling off this story around base so nonchalantly. I swear to god if you two don’t help me out by cutting the cameras and recording off--” Taehyung snaps again.

“Fine, fine, we’ll do something about it. Just control Jimin, and we take care of the cameras and the disturbance. We make sure Jimin hyung’s face and ours are not visible on anywhere.” Jungkook says, pulling Seokjin along with him to assist him in whatever he needs.

“Te- hic! Taeee- hic! Taaae- hic!”

“I’m here, I got you.” Taehyung says softly, still gripping Jimin’s wrist tightly, trying to help him stand up and get back on his feet, even though it’s hard from the way Jimin has been stumbling over the smallest movement. He manages to face Taehyung few moments later, and look up at him, tipsy looking but smile all the same. Jimin lunges forward and into Taehyung’s arms, embracing him tightly.

“Taeeeeeeee. Do you feel happy right now? I’m so happy right now! Super happy.” Jimin coos, resting his head on Taehyung’s shoulder, trying to snuggle up closer to him.

“I’m happy too, but I will be super happy if you can stop messing up with the inanimate objects gravitational force. If you could gently put them all down on the floor as if nothing happened, that will definitely make me super happy.” Taehyung tries to bring up a settlement for the both of them.

“Really? I can make you more happy with that?” Jimin looks up to Taehyung, trying to find that confirmation, which Taehyung replies with a nod and a smile. Moments later, all the object dropped on the floor, startling everyone in the premise, some even run out of the bar, screaming. Luckily no one was hurt, only a few stools here and there are damaged. “Did I make you more happy? Jiminie listened to Taehyungie~” Jimin coos, trying to seek approval from Taehyung.

“Yes, you did. Good job, Jiminie. We should go back home now, you drink way too much. And I still have some work to do when I get back home later.” Taehyung tells Jimin, his mind is now trying to figure out how to erase this night from any sort of media, maybe by tracing every phone users’ signals at this very specific time, using this location as the main source, tracking and hacking into their phones to either delete any recorded media or fine any use of social media starting from 10 minutes ago. Hopefully it wouldn’t be too hard for Taehyung to crack it, but it’s still a lot of work to be done..

“Taehyung ah.”

Jimin calls up to him, his eyes looking so fondly at him, before Jimin leans up and press a short kiss on Taehyung’s lips. It was short but the press of Jimin’s lips on him felt much, much longer than that. That was their first kiss. Taehyung looks at Jimin, astounded, loss for words. “I really am happy tonight because I’m here with you. I’m always happy when I’m with you. Always.” Jimin giggles and coos, before slowly passing out on Taehyung, drunken to the core.

Due to that night’s happenings, Taehyung went into a frenzy mode all night, tracking down the customers’ who were there at the bar, by tracing their mobile signals, maneuvering into the phone’s data and delete any file that are in any way related to Jimin’s drunken behavior and look into their social media activities, with Jungkook and Seokjin’s help as well. The process was a lot more easier if they were an Apple user - Apple icloud provides them with all the information they need. Jimin got a bad case of hangover that morning and a good long scolding from Taehyung when he’s much more sober, and afterwards when Jimin is more clear headed, they talk about Jimin’s kiss that night and ever since then, they have make things between them official - finally declaring each other as their boyfriends (Jungkook says it’s about time.)

Taehyung can say that this was the turning point of his life.

⋆⋆⋆⋆

“See, it was not thaaaat bad.” Jimin tries to reassure Taehyung, a bungeoppang in hand, savouring the taste of red bean paste. “If I don’t get suuuuuper drunk that night, would we even be here? I don’t think any of us would have the courage to confess or talk about our feelings. Maybe we do, but that would probably be a really slow-burn 50 episodes of drama now wouldn’t it?” He asks jokingly.

“Now that is an exaggeration, maybe roughly 8 episodes probably? I don’t see you having that problem. You basically profess your love for me, the night we met.” Taehyung chuckles.

“I did, but it feels like you were not taking me seriously.” Jimin confesses, scratching the beanie over his head. “But that's understandable, I can be very brazen with my confession. I know. I guess all that alcohol gives me the courage that I need.” He flashes a smile, red flush can be seen on his cheeks. Either Jimin is getting frostbite or he is embarrassed. I guess even the brazen one could use a boost once in a while.

Taehyung leans in again, holding both of Jimin’s cheeks in his hands and kisses him for the second time that evening, the kiss was much more meaningful than the previous one, a silent gratitude fell from Taehyung’s lips to Jimin’s, hoping he gets the message through their kiss. When they break away from their kiss, breathless and just full of emotions, Taehyung can see Jimin glowing, and he just never felt more captivated than he already is.

“I want us to have a wonderful Christmas celebration this year. It may not be up to par with how you used to celebrate it in the magical realm, but I really hope it’s satisfactory enough for you. I’ll try to make that happen for you.” Taehyung whispers.

Taehyung promises.

⚝⚝⚝⚝

Sweet promises are meant to be kept, however, Taehyung had no other choice but to break it, regretfully. He’s unsure if the universe hates him somehow, or just won’t allow him to be happy for once. On normal occasions, Taehyung do not really mind if he was sent away for stake out missions. Stake out mission has been one of the many strengths and skills Taehyung harbours and he thoroughly enjoys it. He has done a lot of stake out missions, more than he can count. However, he strongly revolt against the idea of the group to send him away on a stake out mission, a couple of days before Christmas.

His mind has been setting up for Christmas, already layouting a plan of how he wants to celebrate it with Jimin, done his own research on what people do and what kind of food do they go for. It has honestly been a very long time since Taehyung actually celebrates Christmas, he couldn’t even remember when was the last time he actually did. Growing up without a family and detach from the common norms of society really makes Taehyung somewhat unsure with the normalities and formalities. He’s not exactly socially inept per se, just very unsure as he is not used to it. It doesn’t bother him then but it really bothered him now.

Breaking this news to Jimin was what hurt him the most. He knows that Jimin is looking forward to it. He was anticipating it ever since Taehyung promised a lovely celebration, not knowing what the celebration would be then but appreciate the thought of Taehyung trying to make Jimin feel pleasant on his favourite holiday is more than enough for Jimin to be excited. When Taehyung broke the news to Jimin that evening after work, Jimin only looks at him with a smile and tells him that it is okay, because Jimin knows the weight of Taehyung’s job and how significant Taehyung’s contribution towards the group with both his brains and brawns.

That night, Taehyung slept while being cuddled in Jimin’s arms, the pink haired boy knowing full well that his lover is upset and needs the comfort, hugging him close to his chest, stroking his head lovingly, humming him a lullaby and whispers sweet nothings into his ear. The feeling of being embraced in Jimin’s arms makes Taehyung feels like everything still makes sense, not soon after, he went to dreamland, hugging Jimin close, like a bolster. At dawn, Taehyung gets ready to leave for mission, leaving his apartment early as he needs to meet up with Jungkook at their base, be equipped and have one final run-over of their tasks. Everything needs to be perfect. He kisses his sleeping Jimin on the temple, stroking his cheeks lovingly, before leaving.

⋆⋆⋆⋆

“This sucks.”

Jungkook looks up to Taehyung, who he notices have not stopped mumbling out sounds of protest all through the time they were setting up their scouting area here, ol classic hiding behind a bush, few meters away from the building, their van parked a little bit more further than where they are, to avoid any suspicions. Heck, Jungkook can even say that Taehyung have been grumbling all throughout their journey for this specific mission, facial expression very in the clear of how disinterest he feels about this particular mission.

“What is?” Jungkook ask, one eyebrow raising, curious and anticipating for Taehyung’s answer, even though he already had a hunch of what the answer would be. All the curiosity was a given though, considering that Jungkook never once has seen Taehyung detesting a mission’s call. Normally, Taehyung would be one of the only people in their group that would ask for more mission or task, as if he has not already been doing his most with his daily mission of being an undercover agent as an office clerk in one of chaser’s office branches. Being within the enemy’s den uncovers more information than not, as Taehyung would say it, plus it’s also good money, according to Taehyung.

“Being on a mission at this very moment.” Taehyung grumbles. He takes out his laptop, his sketchbook, notebook and binoculars, align them on the ground neatly after he finds a suitable spot for him to do his thing. He starts off by taking out his sketchbook, sketching out the building and all it’s notable details. It helps him familiarize with the building exteriors immediately, all the while picking up his binoculars, viewing into it, taking sharp notes of the small details he might’ve missed out.

“Can’t believe that I’m living long enough to actually witness the Kim Taehyung grousing during a mission. The Kim Taehyung, an overachiever and workaholic, who always puts our group first in everything in life, even his own self. This is a first.” Jungkook snorted, approaching close to Taehyung’s working space with his own laptop, placed himself down on the ground, next to him.

“Well, excuse me for actually trying to be more like a normal person for once and spend the festive holiday with someone I care about!” Taehyung stated, exasperated, hands flailing in the air, obviously really frustrated, before going back to his normal composure, adding details to his sketch, noting down the number of guards that are within the safe radius of involvement with the organisation.

“You mean your boyfriend, the love of your life, the light of your life, the angel-- ow!” Jungkook rubbed his head at the spot Taehyung thumped him, snapping his head at Taehyung, looking at him with a quiet glare.

“Be quiet, dumbass. You’ll blew our cover” Taehyung stated in the most monotonous tone he could put out while now trying to identify the guards’ faces and positions with the info their base provided, noting down who is who, and the duration of each guards standing at their posts.

“As if he wasn’t the one who was flailing his arms out and about while complaining, not even noticing that his voice was getting louder by each second. But yeah sure, hit the youngest because he can’t do anything about it.” Jungkook muttered under his breath, annoyed clearly present in his tone. He moves a bit farther than Taehyung, getting started on his own task - hacking into the surveillance cameras outside of the premises first, and then he can work his way through with the security cameras within the premises.

Both of them continue to work in silence, observing and taking notes of what they could to make a report back to their headquarters, sounds of keyboard typing going rapidly by the minute as Jungkook tries to work his way into the security system, tapping into their security code with ease, having done these so many times that it is not even a feat for them to crack into it. Still, it takes time trying to uncover from one security camera to another one. Since Jungkook is hacking into the public ones first, he didn’t have to work so hard. What’s hard is trying to keep his IP address hidden, and this is where Taehyung assists, as he is responsible for setting up the Virtual Private Network on his laptop, ensuring that if there were ever anyone tries to track down Jungkook’s IP address, it will be everywhere else but their exact location.

They work on shifts, 8 hours for both of them, 8 hours of Taehyung sleeping and 8 hours of Jungkook sleeping. It’s easier that way. They can occasionally rotate between one another on who’ll get the night shift and who gets the midnight shift. Once they are settled in with their targets, they are allowed to move into their vans , rotatingly. It’s always better to have at least a pair of eyes closer to their targets instead of just monitoring them through the screens, of course that is if they’re done with the first phase of intel obtaining.

“Hey.”

Taehyung heard, but didn’t respond.

“You know, Jimin did say that he wants to tag along for this mission, because he knows how much you felt bad about missing his first Christmas on our world and Jimin told me that you already had some things planned out for this occasion too, so he really wants to make sure you wouldn’t feel that bad about missing Christmas with him.” Jungkook started, fingers ever so busy, the sound of keyboard’s typing filled their space, a satisfying sound.

“Jungkook, you know darn well that if Jimin tag along with me, I wouldn’t be in my best shape to perform this mission. I would instead be more worried about him. He doesn’t know anything about mission situations or stake-out ethic of conducts, and it would be pretty stupid of me to bring a magical creature to a place where they thrive on capturing and exposing them. It’s like bringing fresh meat to a lion’s den.” Taehyung sighed.

“Are you even in your best shape right now? You’re here, but your mind is not.” Jungkook insinuates.

Taehyung side-eyed him.

“I may not be in my best shape and or in the best state of mind to do this as my thoughts are everywhere, but I’m still performing my task amazingly as how everyone always have expected of me.”

“Then maybe that’s where the problem lies?” Jungkook states.

“What do you mean?”

“Even through your frustration and resentment, you still perform amazingly. It’s not that it’s a bad thing. I’m just not sure if that is because it’s you, with your nature and strong hold of protecting magical creatures or is it the fact that you know how highly people expects of you that you would not let anyone be disappointed even when you’re not in your best shape.”

“I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.” Taehyung replied, monotonically.

“Forget it. It’s not important anyways. Just so you know, I’m happy that you now have other things to look forward too, instead of just solely putting your mind into protecting these magical creatures. I have been silently worried for you, thinking about how you will sooner or later die alone out of overworking.” Jungkook laughs off.

“You’re enjoying this a bit too much, aren’t you?” Taehyung asks, still not losing his focus on the organisations movement.

“I’m not, I’m genuinely concerned for you, hyung.” Jungkook states, he looks at Taehyung with a warm look in his eyes, meaning every word he just said, “I know you never actually treat me more than just a colleague for your own personal reasons, but I always see you as a friend. And sometimes, I just think that you should drop everything off and live your life with Jimin hyung the way you wanted. He’s a wonderful guy, and I’m glad he brings changes in you.”

Taehyung stares at Jungkook, before he sighed. “I don’t think it’s that easy. All these changes are new, I’m not used to it. I do have thoughts to prioritize Jimin more, but I don’t want to abandon my duty as a lurker either.” Typing away on the keyboard, successfully gaining more intel about one of the guards on post that hour.

“Whoah, wait. Is this happening? Taehyung hyung is opening up to me about feelings ?” Jungkook gapes, eyes widen till the point Taehyung thinks it can pop out of his eye sockets. Taehyung snaps his towards Jungkook, signalling him to focus back on his task instead of shamelessly looking at him with his eyes wide open. “Okay, well yeah, I know how much you value being a lurker and how much you value Jimin hyung, but I also feel like you should give yourself some credit. Prioritize yourself, man. Think of your happiness for once!” Jungkook encourages.

“What if I’m not sure of what I want just yet. I kept going back and forth between two things and it only makes me feel confused every time I think about it.”

“All you need is an assurance, hyung. From the way you’re talking, I guess you probably have kept this feelings bottling up inside of you for quite some time. Maybe you should talk to Jimin hyung about how you feel, see what he thinks. Then you would understand what he’s been feeling and what he wants as well. Communication is an integral part of a relationship, but trust and apprehension plays a bit part to maintain it too.” He suggests and this time Taehyung was the one gaping at him.

“What? I can give good advice too, not just Jin hyung!” He huffs.

“Thanks for the pep talk Jungkook, I’ll be sure to do it once we’re done here.” Taehyung smiles, before continuing his task, trying to drop off this conversation as they should not get too distracted or engaged with deep conversations during their few hours at the location.

On this very rare occasion, Taehyung is actually grateful to be receiving advice from Jungkook, although he would not admit it, ever.

Sounds of keys rummaging against one another can be heard as Taehyung tries opening the door to his apartment. He was gone for about ten days. Ten days of endless observation, notes of information and any other resolute form of intel that can be gathered from behind the bushes and the small space of their van, from the rapid monitoring of surveillance cameras, non-stop typing of keyboards to avoid themselves from being discovered for breaching into the security’s firewall. It was tiring as hell and Taehyung just can’t wait to get inside and see Jimin. It’s not the first time for Taehyung to leave him alone while he is on an undercover mission. However he can say that this is by far one of the longest times he has been away from Jimin.

When he finally opened the door to his apartment and went inside, he was greeted with a loud, “TAEHYUNG-AH!”, and a flying Jimin, flying towards his directions, into his arms, his clutch towards his bag and equipment ungracefully loosen and drops on the floor, to capture the man in his arms. “Whoah, whoa. Easy there, tiger.” Taehyung chuckles, returns his hug nevertheless, kisses on the top of his head, the kiss was longer than expected as he himself misses Jimin dearly.

“God, I miss you so much, Taehyung-ah.” Jimin pouts while looking up at him, pouting his way into Taehyung’s heart. “This is by far the longest time you have been away from me.” he whines, his wings still present on his back, flapping downwards, a sign that shows he is upset. The fact that Jimin had his wings out to greet him by flying into his arms is enough proof of how much this man misses him. Taehyung smiles, brushes his hair to the side, so he can see his face clearly, later resting his hand on his cheek. “I’m sorry, Jimin-ah. I tried getting out of that mission as soon as I can, but it was a tough one. We had to go through days of observation and comparison of intel, just to match up with what my boss wants. I haven’t showered properly in days. So, uh, maybe you could let go of me because I stink.” He chuckles as he tries to pry off Jimin’s hand that is holding him tightly.

“Don’t wanna. Wanna hold you close. Miss you so much.” Jimin whines, shaking his body at that while still hugging Taehyung tightly, his pout very much apparent on his face and Taehyung, misses him so much, his eyes looking at Jimin like he is the only existent that matters, he can’t help but peck that pout lightly.

“You’re so cute,” He pecked his lips again, “so adorable,” another peck on his lips, “so precious,” another peck, “so lovely,” another peck, “how many pecks of kisses do I have to give until your pout goes away?” another peck.

“Till I say so,” Jimin pouts harder, surprising Taehyung that his pout can get any poutier than it already is.

“Aww come on, precious! I stink right now, so you gotta let go of me before my stinkiness rubs off on you as well!” Taehyung whines, yes he whines, still trying hard to pry Jimin’s hands off his midsection, to no avail. Jimin probably alters the gravitational force around his arms, putting on more weight hence why Taehyung couldn’t pry his arms off. He looks at Jimin again, missing his soft pink hair that brushes off nicely on his head, missing his eyes that sparkles with so much tenderness, missing his cute little button nose that he loves to boop at once in a while,  missing his chubby cheeks that he loves to squish and pull on whenever he pouts way too much for him to control himself, missing his pouty plump lips that accentuate his whole face adorableness by tenfold and making it harder for Taehyung to resist and kiss him again on his lips. The wings on Jimin’s back, it has been awhile since Taehyung saw it, the soft transparent pink shades twinkling further when the light hits it. Unconsciously, Taehyung skim his hands on Jimin’s wings, it feels light and Jimin gasps at the contact.

“I miss you so much, Jimin-ah. And I’m sorry that I was not here to spend your first Christmas in the human world together.” He whispers.

They are not moving, still standing there by the entranceway of their apartment, still holding each other close in their arms, just savouring this moment together, pondering why did ten days felt like a lifetime for the both of them.

“It’s okay, Taehyungie. I understand. It’s your job after all. I’m just happy that you’re back home again,” Jimin chuckles, his voice softens and Taehyung feels very warm at that. “Should we get yourself clean? Now that I’m not giving you 100% of my attention, I can tell that you stink, you stinky head!” Jimin chuckles.

“Fineeee. I’ll get myself clean, so you know, I can be in your arms again.” Taehyung says with a blush. Jimin giggled further at that, and peck him, wings now fluttering, Taehyung can see the sparkles and colours blinking, it means that Jimin is happy and content. As Taehyung was about to detach himself from Jimin’s hold, he heard Jimin mumbles a soft ‘wait’, before his hand makes a motion, gesturing for something to be brought forth. Taehyung looks towards the direction that Jimin’s hands were motioning at and gapes at it in surprise when a small cake was brought towards their direction. A simple cake with white frosting and slices of strawberries decorated on top of the cake.

"Happy birthday, Taehyung-ah!"

Taehyung blinks, confused. Oh right, it was his birthday yesterday. He has not celebrated his birthday in years, most of the time having forgotten when was the day to celebrate himself being born was. He could probably guess that Jungkook was the one who told Jimin, or was it himself. It could probably be him, or Jungkook. He’s more lenient towards Jungkook, either way.

“You remember?” Taehyung ask, unconsciously.

“Of course, silly. It’s your special day,” Jimin claims, eyes looking up at Taehyung ever so fondly. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world! I mean I did miss it, but that’s only because you’re not here” He lets go of Taehyung, and took the cake into his hands, a small piece of chocolate with a ‘happy birthday, my lovely taehyungie~’ written on it, can be seen situated on top of it, and Taehyung was swamped with so many emotions, he shed a tear. One drop of tear let to another, and another and another. Jimin became alarmed by this, uncertain of how to react to Taehyung’s reaction.

“Oh, Taehyungie, why are you crying, baby?” Jimin asked as he wipe the tears away. He really never seen this kind of reaction from Taehyung before, so this surprises him.

“It’s just, it’s been a really long time since I had someone wishes me a happy birthday like this, with a cake even,” he chuckles. It really has been a long time since he acknowledges his birthday and have someone wishes him like this. Jungkook and Seokjin wished him every year, offered to treat him to dinner or drinks, at least they tried too, but Taehyung always brush their offer away, as to not want to burden them and rather focus on his work more than anything. Yes, Taehyung usually went to work on his birthday, doesn’t leave room for himself to enjoy the day. He really has never given his own self credit and treat himself right. Years of working and being on undercover can really shape a person differently.

“Are you okay? Is it too much?” Jimin ask, as he wipes the tears on Taehyung’s eyes away, felt a little worried.

“No, no. It’s fine. I just didn’t expect it.” Taehyung chuckles, brushing his hair to the sides of his face. “I really do appreciate you in my life, Jiminie.”

“Well now, go take a shower and we’ll cut the cake after! We should have a small celebration! Of course, I’ll try to control myself with the alcoholic beverages, if you allow me to have some. We don’t want that to happen again now, do we?” Jimin teased.

Taehyung ponders, “Hey, Jiminie? How about we’ll go out for dinner tonight? I’m feeling a bit tired right now, so I’m gonna take a nap and we’ll go out after my rest. I’ll take you to someplace nice and we’ll bring your cake along? We’ll celebrate Christmas that we missed, and my birthday too?” Taehyung ask shyly, Jimin replies him with a nod and an excited cheer.

“ Shower first, before anything else.”

⚝⚝⚝⚝

“Where are you taking me?” Jimin asks, his white beanie paired with his matching white neck warmer almost covering up his whole face.

“To dinner!” Taehyung replied, poking out his tongue, holding the cake that Jimin baked for him in a small box. Turns out he learnt to bake the cake from Seokjin, as Seokjin drops by to their apartment once every two days to check in on him, at Jungkook’s request after Taehyung begged him too.

“Yes, but where? You usually ask me where I want to eat. Now that you don’t ask me about what I feel like eating, I’m a bit worried.” Having both of his hands wrapped around Taehyung’s left arm, voice hinting a tease.

“Trust me, you will enjoy where I’m taking you.” His eyes glint mischievously.

As Taehyung said, Jimin really did enjoy where Taehyung decide to take him too. A diner in town, close to their residency, that makes one of the best sundubu jjigae there is. The diner is always full and packed with people, proving the legitimacy of the talks around town, however through connection, Taehyung managed to get a seat reserved for the both of them. It was a nice choice of food too, in this blazing cold. A warm tofu stew, with its spicy refinement of broth easily makes anyone fell in love instantly, and Jimin was more than in love with it, Taehyung can tell.

Taehyung only allowed Jimin to have one drink and one drink only, suggesting that they could go out for a stroll afterwards, basking in the lovely night sky filled with twinkling stars, amidst the cold. Jimin reluctantly agree, after a bit of protest been done which was ignored completely by Taehyung.

“You know, if we are lucky tonight, and you don’t get completely drunk, we might be able to go watch the fireworks show. I think they do it every year, to welcome us into the new year.” Taehyung states, his leading point into getting Jimin be eye to eye with him. Jimin likes fireworks show, having catching it from cheesy dramas and movies, usually the romantic one where the main couple confesses to each other under the moonlight and sealed their confession with a kiss, the moon as a witness, the stars as their audience and the fireworks (which randomly appears) as an applause. Jimin loves that gooey romantic stuff.

“You just know how to convince a man. That’s super romantic, Taehyung ah.” Jimin teased. “I almost forgot about it! Mrs Lee did tell me about it before. Will it be a long firework show? Like a full-blast light show?”

“I guess so?” He grins, showing uncertainty, scratching his head while at it, “I’m not sure, I haven’t seen one in a long time. I might when I was young, but I really can’t remember.”

"You really have been spending most of your time alone, huh? I don't understand how you manage to do it. I couldn't imagine you living such a lone life before this Taehyung ah, before me." Jimin says, looking at Taehyung tenderly.

"It's not like I'm all alone, I have the group, I have Mrs Lee, I have Jungkook as well." Taehyung says, trying to brush off the matter. His eyes lit up when their food arrives: two steaming hot bowls of sundubu jjigae, two bowls of rice and variety of side-dishes. It invites hunger all around immediately, Jimin can’t even hide himself drooling a little bit at the sight of the food. They began to eat in silence, savouring the delightful taste of tofu and beef, every bite enhancing the taste even more.

Once they’re done eating, they brought out their cake, already asking for the owner’s permission to eat the cake and promising her a few slices as gratitude for allowing them to have a small celebration in such a pack diner. Jimin sang him him a happy birthday, wishing him well, wishing him for a great year ahead, for growth and happiness and to always be there by his side, sealing it with a chaste kiss. Taehyung on the other hand, can’t stop praising how delicious Jimin’s cake was, kept pestering the table next to him about how heavenly Jimin’s cake was, Jimin’s scarlet red face go unnoticed.

They leave the restaurant after their little celebration, went on a stroll around town. It was peaceful and such a nice atmosphere too. Jimin enjoys it however, he still have some doubts in his mind about their previous conversation.

“Hey, Tae?” Jimin called, stopping in his tracks, Taehyung gives him a confused glance.

“I know you say that you’re not completely alone, but Mrs Lee did told me that you would always kept your distance with her, treating her like a regular customer-buyer relationship. Jungkook also told me that he always tried to invite you over, play games with him and Seokjin hyung or just hang out, but you would always dismiss him. Always says things like you rather kept things professional and not to engage into anything further." Jimin express. Taehyung looks at him, studying his face. Seems like Jimin has been holding this back for awhile.

"It's just easier that way. Being too involved can cause problems as well, so it's better to not have direct relationships with anyone, be it with a colleague, a friend or the kind lady you frequent by." Taehyung explains.

"But what about me, Taehyung ah? I'm more than just a friend to you, I'm your boyfriend. Is this really okay for you?"

Taehyung smiles. "Why do you ask that?"

"Because I know how hard it is for you. To suddenly change your lifestyle for me, suddenly chang a bit part of yourself, for me. Jungkook tells me that you seek him for advice, constantly, even for the tiniest thing, and I quote him, 'Taehyung hyung really just call me up the other day and ask me what he should do if Jimin wants to have breakfast in bed. Like if there is a special service that would allow a fancy breakfast in bed to be made and had them delivered directly to your bed or something.' He tells me about all your calls all the time." Jimin giggles, finding that part of Taehyung irresistibly appealing.

"Tattletale. That's pretty embarrassing." Taehyun states, noting to himself that he will give Jungkook a beating the next time he sees him.

"It's not, it's adorable. You really are trying hard for me. I’m happy to hear that. I just need to know if this is really okay for you?" He asks again, holding Taehyung’s hand now, rubbing small circles at the back of his hand.

Taehyung looks at Jimin lovingly, his knitted headband pulling his hair back, making his bone structure more prominent and his gaze towards Jimin is one that speaks louder than words. He thinks back about the conversation he had with Jungkook during his mission, maybe it’s not wrong to start the conversation now. "One thing I never tell you frequently is that, I don't think I will be able to continue living the same life, without you in it. It's different, different from my lifestyle, the one that I am used to living for years. But it's good different, because it's with you. I'm willing to change it all for you. I’m slowly changing because it’s not easy but I would like to try that with you." Taehyung clarify, picking up Jimin’s hand that is already grasping his own, bringing it close to his lips and kiss the back of his hand.

"And so since we’re together, I should at least discuss this with you and ask for your opinion. About my job." Taehyung starts.

"What about your job, Taehyungie? Which job actually? The undercover one or the one you swear your life too?" Taehyung laughs before pulling Jimin over to a nearby bench so they can sit down.

“You know what I do for a living right, aside from my undercover role as an office clerk. I used to think that I don’t need anyone or anybody in my life, as what I do consumes too much time and it’s easier when you have no strings attached with anyone. It helps me stay in character with my role as an aloof clerk, and I don’t have to be concerned about anyone’s safety except for my own and the magical creatures I swear to protect. But now-” Taehyung pauses, looking deeply into Jimin’s eyes, Jimin stares back and encourage him to continue by gently rubbing his hand, “now, I have you and I feel like you’re the only one I want to protect wholeheartedly. Your safety means the world to me and at times, I feel like I put extra pressure on myself to do better because it’s for your own good. While I still do my task flawlessly, at times I feel like my head is not there anymore, you know? Especially during this whole stake-out mission. I don’t want to be away from you for such a long period of time, because part of me is still worried to leave you alone for days, and most of me just don’t want to be away from you. I’m very confused with what I feel about my job, and I would like an input or opinion from you, if you understand what I mean.” He ends his sentence with a nervous laugh, ruffling his own hair while waiting for Jimin’s reply.

"Wait, what are you trying to say? Do you have second thoughts about your job?" Jimin asks, eyes widen as he is surprised to hear about Taehyung’s confession.

"Yeah. I feel like quitting my job. I’m not entirely sure if that’s what I really want but it’s a thought that pops up in my mind lately. Sometimes I feel like it would be in the best interest for you too, if I quit.”

“Why would you think that quitting your job is in the best interest for me?” He asks softly, wondering.

“I just thought that, well, because my position as an office clerk while being ridiculed and poke fun at by those people, I have access to great intel that assist in our group’s research and are able to predict their next move and such. My position in our group is of importance as well, constantly on undercover, there’s also assignments that I have to fulfill, it just consumes a lot of times. I leave home early in the morning, and came back home pretty late too as I stopped by our group’s base for updates and passing of intel. I only get to see you when I wake up and at night when you’re watching TV. Sometimes, I just miss you a lot during the day. I was thankful enough we manage to celebrate your birthday as it was on a weekend and I got a day off. There was nothing to pull me away for mission either. I guess it’s in the best interest for me more than you.” Taehyung explains away.

“I didn’t think your job was bothering you that much. How long have you felt this way?”

“The thoughts come and go these past couple of months, but the feelings felt more strongly recently.”

“Taehyung-ah, I just want to assure you that we’re doing fine despite how time consuming your job is. I completely understand that that is your lifestyle. Of course, I won’t lie that sometimes I feel lonely because I can’t see you all the time, but I don’t want you to feel bad about it. I have seen you work before, even during the time I was still a fairy. I’m used to it. We’re fine.” Jimin promises, patting his back for comfort.

“I know but that’s before you actually become someone very important in my life. You are always important to me, even during the times when you were still a fairy, but you’re just much more important now that we are together. I feel like everything is different? Things are changing, and I’m just not used to adjusting to these changes yet, I guess.” Taehyung ends his sentence with a sigh, covering his face with his hand.

“I didn’t know you felt all of this surges of emotions. It must be hard for you to endure all this on your own. I’m sorry I didn’t know that you have all these feelings blowing up inside you.” Jimin starts, he leans in to press a soft kiss on Taehyung’s temple, allowing him to release his tense after unloading his feelings on him.

“Taehyung ah, I love you. I love you for who you are, what you do and for everything that you are. I know your job isn’t easy, I know me being a magical creature myself isn’t easy for you either. The biggest change you’re doing is changing your lifestyle for us, for your own self and that would indefinitely be hard. That’s just part of life, you endure the hardships, accept what fate has given to you, but you also have the power to change it and choose your own happiness. No path is going to be easy. I know it. As long as you have someone that can encourage and be with you through it all, I promise you, everything will be much easier.” Jimin reaches out for Taehyung’s head and rested his head on his shoulder.

“My baby. I’ll tell you this. The moment you let me in into your life, even though I was the one who initially forced myself into your life, I just knew that I don’t want to spend another day without you. I thank you everyday for not kicking me out of your apartment and allowed me to stay with you, even though you questioned me why all the time. It gives me the assurance that you wouldn’t mind having me in your life as well. Theoretically speaking, while there may be days where we may have to be apart for days to come, you are still there, present in my heart and my life. You’re always there, and that is all I ever need. That day when you told me to stay with you, give me that affirmation that you need me as much as I need you, that’s when I knew that I would want to endure everything there is with you. So no, I do not want you to quit your job, because of me. If you want to quit your job, because you feel that it’s good for you, then I will support you wholly. Don’t quit your job just because of me. You have a whole life to adjust to the changes and assess what’s good for you.”

Jimin reaches for Taehyung again and kisses him, passionately this time, pouring out all of his emotions on him, telling him that he meant it with everything he said, holding Taehyung’s jawline firmly, not wanting to let go of the kiss and the moment. When they break their kiss, breathless, cold air coming out of their mouths from their panting, catching air into their lungs again, they rested their foreheads together, smiling with glee.

“Are you sure this is okay?” Taehyung asks again, to be sure. Jimin now pats his lap, urging for Taehyung to lay on it, which Taehyung immediately complies. Jimin starts brushing off Taehyung’s hair lovingly, loved how his hair feels so smooth in between his fingers, despite the cold.

“I’m okay as long as you are okay. I love what you do and I’m always so proud of it, but if there comes a time where you don’t feel like doing it, then it’s okay! If you don’t want to do it anymore, then that is entirely up to you, if you want to do it, it’s still very much up to you. I’m still happy and proud of you because you are just amazing, Taehyung-ah.” Jimin curls his fingers against his hair, adjusting his knitted headband while he’s at it. “I just want to live with you, for the rest of my life, as long as you let me.”

“You’re amazing, Jimin-ah. I really do love you.” Taehyung beams up at him, feeling happy after letting his feelings out. It really does feel much lighter now when he has told Jimin what he feels..

“I never doubt you even for a second.” He chuckles, leaning towards Taehyung when he sees that he has pucker up his lips, asking for a kiss, slowly closing the gap existing between their lips.

Their kiss and moment were broken with the sound of fireworks booming into the night, startling them both. It’s midnight, a new year is blooming in, the start of a new decade. A great start for such a crazy year they both have went through. It’s going to be an amazing year this year.

Taehyung sits up immediately, almost forgotten about the gift he went fussing around for days, gotten Jimin alarmed by his sudden movement too. He reaches into his pocket and took out a small box wrapped in turquoise, bright ribbon on top of it as an added touch.

“This is overdue but Merry Christmas, Jimin-ah. I hope you’ll love it.” Taehyung says quietly, blushing.

“Oh! Wow! Thank you so much Taehyung-ah.” Jimin quickly opens his gift, astounded by the jewelry Taehyung has gotten him. It is a plan silver chain with fairy wings as it’s pendant, fairy wings that looks almost similar to his own wings, with a pink gemstone encrusted at the center, tying the wings together. “This is really beautiful, I love it so much.” Taehyung offers his hand and pats Jimin’s shoulder, signalling him to turn around, helping him to wear his necklace over his neck warmer.

“Beautiful.” Taehyung says as Jimin turns back around. All that fussing pays off then. Jimin’s hand creeps over the pendant, holding it tightly.

I’m sorry I didn’t get anything for you for Christmas.” Jimin looks at him, eyes twinkling, excited showing. “But I do have something for you too! It’s not much, I tried my best to make it but it’s hard to get resources here.” Jimin glees happily, unzips his jacket to take out his gift for Taehyung from his inside pocket.

Jimin hands him a packet, wrapped with blue ribbon, looking a bit embarrassed. The gift definitely took Taehyung by surprised, judging by how wide his eyes and mouth are.

“Happy birthday, Taehyungie. I hope you like it.” Jimin says and pecks his cheek. Taehyung opens up his packet and finds a neatly crafted bracelet made of braided strings with colours of black and soft shade of pink, dangling from it is bits of smooth tree branches, leaves and white flower petals tying them all together to form a sphere with an opening in the center a very small flower can be seen nestling inside it, all the natural material seemed to have been preserved to maintain its natural state.

“T-this is a bracelet from my realm, I made it myself. It’s a well-wished band that promises endless happiness and journey together which is shown from the braided strings colour while the flower within the sphere is December’s birth flower, Narcissus, suitable for you and-, and it means,” Jimin stammers before he continues, “and it means that you are ‘the only one’.” Jimin explains, and before he realizes it, Taehyung’s lips was on his again, kissing him with full intent.

“I love it. I love it so much.” Taehyung says, in between kisses, voice had gotten deeper than normal. Jimin has gotten him under a spell that even with such a simple gift (which holds so many meanings) had Taehyung enamoured.

“Happy New Year, Jimin-ah.”

“Happy New Year to you too, Taehyung-ah.”

They kiss again, under the beautiful moonlight, the sounds of fireworks booming loudly, as if the stars were applauding them for the new direction they take with their love while the moon became their sole witness for this endless exchange of adoration for one another.

Just how Jimin likes it.

Notes:

Funny story about this fic, it 's actually a different story than what I initially had planned out. My initial story is Taehyung and Jimin crossing paths and how they grew from there, but it sorts of get complicated when I started to plot things out, so this baby here, the part two of the initial story was born. I'm not entirely sure if I'll ever released the part one, but we will see!

Hope you'll have a lovely day! <3
