Work Text:
Katsuki stood at the double doors, taking a deep breath to calm his nerves. Just remember what I rehearsed, simple enough. ‘Hey nerd--no, hey Izu...Hey Deku, this is our day. Our moment.’ Katsuki looked to the side to see the small crowd starting to take their places. He would be needed soon.
What if he wasn't ready? What if he ditched Deku?? Katsuki shook his head, he wouldn't. Never would ditch the love of his life at an altar like some damn coward. Not after Deku so graciously gave him another chance to do right by them.
“Nervous, I see,” A voice sounded next to Katsuki.
Katsuki didn't need to turn to see who it was, “Hey, Auntie.”
“You seem a bit on edge.”
Katsuki finally turned to see Inko, dressed in a simple yellow sundress, hair tucked neatly into a bun. You’d think this was some family get-together, not a wedding.
“Yeah,” Katsuki said, worrying his bottom lip between his teeth, “I am. I just--I want to know if I'm ready.”
Inko hummed thoughtfully, “Ready? For what?”
“This! Being tied to D-Izuku. What if they want to leave? What if I don't give them a life they deserve??” Katsuki started spewing doubts, laying his feelings out onto the table. Now, why tell Inko this? Why not his father? Why not All Might? His mother?
First, his father and mother weren't invited. He nearly vomited at the thought of inviting them and so Deku didn’t. They just shoved the invitations for his parents into the trash.
And second…it was hard to talk to a grave.
“You’re worried about things you know the answer to,” Inko placed her hand on Katsuki’s forearm, taking him out of his long rant. “You know Izuku is a simple boy, they’ll be happy with you every step of the way. As they always have been.”
Katsuki huffed, “I don't deserve it.”
Inko flicked Katsuki’s nose, eliciting a whine from the man, “That is not up to you or I to decide. It is up to Izuku and I believe they made that choice a few months ago, did they not?”
The memory played fresh in his mind. A small night in their shared home, when they were both on their bed cuddling.
“Kacc--Katsuki?? Whatever, my main point now is...I want to marry you. That's a fact. I know we haven't had the best relationship, we’ve had so many bumps and hiccups and I know so many people doubted us actually staying together out of highschool. And--am I rambling? Oh god I am, POINT IS!!! I want to marry you, I want to call you my husband, wife, partner, whatever. I want to put a ring on your finger because I know that it’ll mean so much more than just a metal band around it.
So, Katsuki, will you marry me?”
“Yeah..yeah they did.”
Inko smiled, looping her arm with his, “My question now is: have you made your choice?”
Yes, he had so long ago. There were doubts, he wasn't going to deny his fears about this. Fear that Deku would change their mind.
But Katsuki would never doubt his instincts, and his instincts told him to go marry the person at the altar.
------
The moment he was handed off, he felt the air in his lungs slowly leave. Everyone from their class was watching. Kirishima was right behind him, giving him a comforting pat on the back and a, “You got this!”
Iida was officiating the wedding, but no book was in his hand. Instead, they carried two ribbons, one green and one orange. And they were tied together at the ends.
“Normally, I’d like to stick to the rules about ceremonies like these,” Iida began, “but these two never stick quite to the book, so why make their ceremony fall into a box?”
“We’re here to celebrate them, friends that have faced many trials together. They weren't always as close as they are today, communication was faulty as you all can recall,” Some laughter broke out, even a small giggle came from Deku, “but there was always trust in the other. Trust and a bond that can't be understood by anyone else but them. So, with that, let them say their vows.” Iida stepped back a bit, still holding the ribbons.
Deku took a deep breath in before turning to Katsuki, a smile on their face, “Katsuki, since I've known you from when we were babies, you were always this shining star, standing out to everyone. But it wasn’t your quirk that made you stand out to me, it was amazing, but you are not your quirk. You are you, the man who will rally heroes and people together for a better cause, have people follow you with no fear. I know you still have doubts that you hide, ones you will deny rather than face because they're just scary. I want you to know you don’t have to face anything alone anymore while I'm by your side, and I hope that's for a while, if you’ll have me.” Deku looked at him, taking a couple deep breaths after his whole speech, but still smiling that stupid smile. The smile Katsuki loved to see.
Katsuki looked around before saying, “My turn?” A few people cheered, ready to hear the sap fest Katsuki had prepared. “When we were kids, before the quirks, you were my best friend. The only person who saw me for me. And I didn't realize that you still saw me for me when I got my quirk and...I treated you so horribly, I don't know how you forgave me, even now. But you did. And damn am I glad for it because I get to say I love you with no fear that you won't say the same. I get to hold you, to kiss you, to love you until time itself stops. Death can kiss my ass 'cause ain't nothing parting us.” Katsuki exhaled loudly, chest heaving as well after his speech.
He didn't even have to really look at Deku’s eyes to know they were going to cry, just hearing their breath shudder as they took a breath in.
Iida looked between the two with a small smile before handing them the ribbon of their partner; Katsuki got green and Deku got orange, “I thought, personally, that if you both carried your partner’s colors, you could carry each other anywhere. So, I want you both to repeat after me.
“With this ribbon, I carry my partner’s strength.”
Gripping Deku’s hand and the ribbon, Katsuki spoke after Iida,” With this ribbon, I carry my partner’s strength.”
Deku gave him a big smile as they, too, repeated the words.
Iida continued, “With this ribbon, I also carry my partner’s weaknesses and doubts.”
“With this ribbon, I also carry my partner’s weaknesses and doubts.”
“I carry them so they never are alone in their struggles.”
“I carry them so they are never alone in their struggles.”
“With this ribbon, I carry my partner’s love for me.”
“With this ribbon, I carry my partner’s love for me.”
“And with this ribbon, I carry our bond through life and death, so we never part.”
Katsuki looked to Deku, giving one of the first genuine smiles of many to come, “And with this ribbon, I carry our bond through life and death, so we never part.”
“You may now kiss the groom!” Iida exclaimed, stepping back to let them have their moment. Deku took a hold of Katsuki's tie before dipping him, a strong arm pressed against his back before they claimed his lips, tears running down both of their faces.
Katsuki foolishly thought that there would be no better moment than that.
--------
“Hey, Kacchan?”
Katsuki looked down to Deku, who was holding their(adopted) child in their lap, “If you had to pick...snapping your fingers and instantly getting 200 yen each time or instantly having ¥10000000, what would you choose?”
“The second one, I can’t snap for shit.”
“That's true, you always sucked at that,” Deku snickered, not even able to see their husband’s offended face but knowing it was there. Which it was, in the form of a pout and a huff where he looked at anything but Deku. Not for long as he felt a head settle on his chest, followed by loud snoring. Fuckin’ dick, God really had to curse him with a partner that snored like a bear and slept as if he was dead.
But even then, cursed wasn’t the right word. Blessed, he was. To have a daughter so like him in so many ways. Not appearance wise, she had black hair and blue eyes and freckles mapped her face much like Deku's, but it was very clear she wasn't related by blood. Anyone couldn’t argue, however, that she was Katsuki’s daughter. A nerd with a temper who was always excited about heroes and wanted to support them any day. She was so like them , it hurts at times to see the resemblance.
Katsuki wouldn’t trade it for anything. This was his family, a family he earned and a family he wished to keep safe. And he would, until his last breath. But he had a reason to live, too. He wanted to see his daughter’s first partner, see her first trophy, see the first time she failed, oddly enough. Just to pick her back up and say it's okay and she will be okay before sending her back into the world.
He wanted to see her wedding and walk her down the aisle and be the parent for her that his mother wasn’t for him.
And he’d fight to come home just to see their smiles at the end of the day.
