“Oi, dickhead.”
It isn’t the first time Tenya’s been woken up rudely by his roommate turned boyfriend, but that doesn’t mean it is necessary or wanted by any means. So, being the logical and entirely empathetic person that he is, Tenya ignores his boyfriend and simply rolls over, burying his face in the pillow once more and praying for sleep.
Katsuki doesn’t seem to like that very much, judging by the fact that the next thing Tenya knows there is a body landing heavily on his and a shout of “GET UP ASSHOLE,” yelled right in his ear.
Tenya rolls over and shoves Katsuki away, watching idly as the blurry blob he recognizes as his boyfriend goes tumbling none-so-gracefully over the other side of the bed. Tenya has approximately a millisecond of peace before Katsuki is launching himself at Tenya with a war cry and, as always, a healthy batch of semi blind, semi deaf wrestling ensues. And, because it is far too early and Tenya is not nearly awake enough for this, the wrestling stops once Tenya has successfully rolled the two of them over and collapsed, limp, on top of Katsuki.
Katsuki writhes as best he can, what with Tenya’s entire body weight pinning him down, swearing up a storm. But he eventually gives it up as a bad job and just goes limp beneath Tenya with a grumble of something about how insufferable Tenya is.
“Good morning, dandelion.” Tenya mutters into the crook of his neck.
“Fuck you.” Katsuki mutters.
Tenya just hums and nuzzles further into his neck, intent on not moving for a while. Katsuki may be smaller than him and almost entirely muscle, but he’s still comfortable to lie on top of. Especially when Tenya is supposed to be sleeping and isn’t supposed to be awake for another hour or so. That just makes this extra sweet.
Though Katsuki may not feel quite the same way, judging as how his breathing is a little laboured and slightly wheezy, but he hasn’t started complaining yet so Tenya decides that Katsuki doesn’t hate it. Yet. He could very well hate it and is just toughing it out for Tenya’s sake (because despite being an angry pomeranian, he is still sweet sometimes), and Tenya appreciates that a lot. Of course, he wouldn’t force Katsuki to stay like this forever because they both may die in the end, Katsuki by asphyxiation and Tenya by explosion and a broken heart, but he lets it last for at least a bit longer.
And, when Katsuki’s breathing gets a little shallow and he grumbles at Tenya to get off of him again, Tenya lifts himself up and moves out of the way so he is no longer crushing him. Slowly, he climbs off the bed, leaving a rather smushed looking Katsuki in his wake.
Tenya is halfway through getting dressed for the day when he sees that Katsuki is still lying there, half smushed into the mattress and barely awake.
“Hey,” Tenya calls, “Weren’t you just telling me to get up a moment ago?”
“Yeah, I fuckin’ was, four eyes.” Katsuki grumbles, “But then you were warm.”
“I squashed you.” Tenya points out.
“Don’t see your point.” Katsuki shoots him a half assed snarl to which Tenya just rolls his eyes. This doesn’t seem to sit well with Katsuki, as Tenya hears a soft crackling sound, as if Katsuki’s palms were rippling with little explosions.
“Katsuki, don’t char the sheets, please. These are the third new set I have bought in two weeks.” Tenya says. He doesn’t wait for a reply, just walks out of their bedroom to the kitchen.
Katsuki cooks, usually, but when there are mornings like these after nights like the last, Tenya will often offer to cook. His cooking is hardly offensive, and he makes a mean omurice, according to Midoriya and Uraraka, and Katsuki rarely complains (much) so he’s going to do it. Besides, Katsuki always gripes at him that he doesn’t cook and that he has to do everything when it comes to the kitchen and, well, Tenya has his own ego to consider.
And, of course, he likes watching Katsuki smile faintly when he places a dish down in front of him. It always brings a warm flutter to his heart, something Uraraka used to call ‘really gay.’ He is rather gay, especially since he’s living with his boyfriend of a year, and so her observations isn’t entirely wrong.
Katsuki’s face is cute and it gets impossibly cuter with his pupils expand and he stares down something he wants. This being Tenya, usually, and food most other times. When the two are mixed, Katsuki looks very much like a cat ready to pounce on a toy.
It’s cute. Really cute. And Katsuki would try to blow his face to bits if Tenya ever said it aloud.
Halfway through the process of making the omelette, Tenya feels arms wind around his waist and a face press between his shoulder blades. Words are pressed into his skin through his shirt and he hums softly, leaning his head back to rest it on Katsuki’s head of tragically fluffy hair.
“You’re making a fucking mess, glasses.” Katsuki grumbles, more audibly this time.
“You’re so rude.” Tenya replies, “Are you this rude to all of your boyfriends?”
“Sure fucking am.” Katsuki’s sharp grin presses into his skin, “Ain’t you rude to the people you like a lot?”
“There’s a word that suits your needs better than ‘like,’ you know.” Tenya points out.
Katsuki hums and squeezes him. “Don’t wanna know it.”
Tenya can’t help but agree. But he doesn’t say anything, just raises his head again and looks down at the omelette in the pan. With a few quick movements, he flips it over, the resulting sizzle as satisfying as any other, and Katsuki’s arms only tighten around him in an oddly domestic display of affection.
Eventually, in a few short minutes, the omelette is finished and the rice cooker dings pleasantly to let them both know that the rice is ready. Slowly, and reluctantly, Katsuki unwinds his arms from Tenya’s waist and, judging by the soft clinking of porcelain, Katsuki is getting bowls from the cupboard. Tenya, meanwhile, opens a drawer and pulls out a pair of spoons and chopsticks. Katsuki scoops some rice into the bowls, Tenya cuts the omelette in half and puts half on each bowl.
And so another morning begins.
————————————
“It snowed last night.” Tenya says, breath fogging up the window.
Katsuki grumbles into his half eaten omurice, “And why should I care?”
“It’s beautiful.” Tenya continues, “I think you could come see it.”
“What, you want me to come look at a bunch of white shit?” Katsuki gripes.
Tenya sighs and turns away from the window, letting the curtain fall back into place. He crosses his arms and raises an eyebrow at Katsuki. Then he says, “You’re a horrible grouch in the morning.”
“Congratulations, you’re fucking observant.” Katsuki rolls his eyes, “What else is new, glasses? ‘S the sky blue?”
“Not at the moment, no.” Tenya walks over and sits down across from him again, just watching his face for a moment. Katsuki’s got a grain of rice on the corner of his mouth, and he doesn’t seem to notice it. So, because Tenya is both Katsuki’s boyfriend and a gentleman, he reaches over and cups Katsuki’s jaw.
Right as Katsuki’s opening his mouth to yell at him, he uses his thumb to flick away the grain of rice and pulls his hand back. But he doesn’t pull back until after his thumb has hovered over Katsuki’s lower lip for a moment.
Once his hands are folded together and he is leaning on the table once more, Tenya takes a look at Katsuki’s face and he is one hundred percent not disappointed.
See, Katsuki blushing is a rather rare thing, if it ever happens. If and when it happens, it’s just barely there, a dusting of red in his cheeks that makes him look like he’s dusted in sugar or something of the like. If he’s really flustered, the sweat on his cheeks will explode in teeny tiny explosions which, in Tenya’s book, is downright adorable. He’s always looking forward to the next time he can fluster Katsuki just so he can see him blush.
This is thankfully one of those times. A faint, barely there blush grows in Katsuki’s cheeks slowly and, as it reaches its peak, Tenya hears the telltale little ‘pop’s of the tiniest explosions known to man. It all brings a fond smile to Tenya’s face, one of the ones that kills Katsuki’s will to scream at him and only makes him avert his eyes and grumble something about ‘shut the fuck up, four eyes.’
“The fuck’s wrong with you?” Katsuki’s voice is soft in his flustered state, soft as a gravel road yet still somehow soft.
“You’re cute.” Tenya shrugs, “And you had rice at the corner of your mouth.”
“Fuck off.” Katsuki wipes at his mouth, and Tenya knows he’s only covering more blushing and trying to stop the blood rushing to his cheeks.
“Yes, yes.” Tenya shakes his head with a smile and stands up, taking his own bowl and chopsticks, “I’ll do the dishes. Bring me your bowl when you’re done.”
Katsuki just grunts gracelessly at him and goes back to eating, pointedly not looking up at him.
Little does he know that Tenya can see his ears going red. Cute.
————————————
Carrying Katsuki over his shoulder like he’s a sack of potatoes may not be the greatest idea Tednya has ever had, but it is most definitely an entertaining one, especially since he discovers that Katsuki is very ticklish around his waist.
Katsuki, at present, is screaming Tenya’s ear off, yelling at him to put him down and let go and other such things, along with breathless, angry giggles every now and again. And, of course, one cannot forget the fact that he’s swearing every couple of words and insulting anything he can about Tenya because what are boyfriends for? Clearly they’re for annoying the hell out of each other, if these two have any say in it.
“GLASSES I SWEAR TO FUCK PUT ME DOWN RIGHT THE FUCK NOW-”
Tenya rolls his eyes with a heavy sigh. “Katsuki, hush. The neighbors will hear you.”
Katsuki’s face goes red and Tenya isn’t sure if it’s from rage or embarrassment. So he assumes it’s a healthy mix of both.
As he keeps walking down the stairs of their apartment building, thankfully not in the morning or in the middle of the night, Katsuki continues to hurl obscenities at Tenya with every step. It would be mildly entertaining, had Tenya been watching from a safe distance, but unfortunately he’s right in the middle of the action. Katsuki’s palms begin to crackle in his anger and, despite how Tenya can tell he’s holding back so he doesn’t hurt him, Tenya is just a little nervous. One could never truly get over being blasted in the face because they said something remotely out of line, I suppose.
Thankfully for the sake of Tenya’s face, he makes it to the bottom of the stairs and looks around for a moment, searching for exactly what he’s looking for. Upon seeing it, he starts walking toward it, ignoring the few passersby in favour of pinching his boyfriend's hip when he gets the chance just to hear him squeak and jerk like he’d been electrocuted. It’s cute, really cute, and it would have been far cuter if Katsuki hadn’t shot him a glare that could have curdled milk.
The only thing that stops Katsuki’s rage fueled monologue, is the fact that Tenya promptly drops him into a three foot tall snowbank.
Katsuki sinks into it with a rather odd squeak, surprise killing the roar in his throat. His body essentially disappears beneath the snow leaving only the fluffy top of his head visible, and Tenya can’t hold back his snort in time. For a moment, Katsuki seems too shocked to do anything, giving Tenya time to plan out what his last words would be. That’s a good thing, honestly, and he would be sure to haunt Katsuki from whatever afterlife awaited him to say ‘thank you.’
But then he is snapped out of his reverie when Katsuki lunges up out of the snowbank and grabs the collar of his shirt in both hands before promptly judo flipping him over his shoulder and slamming him down into the snow. He lands so hard that the air is forced from Tenya’s lungs in a wheeze-ish sort of cough, and he’s more than stunned. Not that he didn’t expect this, more that he hadn’t expected to hit the snow so very hard.
“You’re a fucking menace.” Katsuki growls in his face.
It’s a little hard to take him seriously, what with the snowflakes on his eyelashes and the snow in his hair and all over his clothes, and Tenya only manages to tamp down on his smirk enough that it turns into a wobbly, shit-eating grin. This only serves to enrage Katsuki more, and Tenya barely rolls out of the way in time to dodge a shove that could have easily sent him sputtering into the snow. He quickly reaches up and grabs Katsuki’s shoulder and rolls them over so Katsuki is on his back in the snow.
Then, because he’s a wonderful boyfriend, thank you very much, he grabs a fistful of snow and mashes it against Katsuki’s cheek.
Some of it slides down Katsuki’s neck and he shrieks at the cold, launching himself upward with such force that he drags Tenya with him. And now they’re face to face (or as face to face as is possible when Katsuki is so much shorter than him), and Tenya gets a front row seat to just how pissed off Katsuki is. And he also gets a perfect view of the snowflakes in his eyelashes and the way his cheeks are flushed from the cold.
He’s well aware that their noses will be running and their eyes will probably tear up to flush everything out once they’re both inside, but the flush in Katsuki’s cheeks looks really good. Tenya had always believed he looked good with a little red in his cheeks and had made it his personal mission when they got together to make him blush whenever he could.
“You’re really cute.” It slips out before Tenya can even think about putting clamps on his words, and he immediately goes to apologize.
What he doesn’t expect is for Katsuki to reach up and cover his mouth with one hand and whisper, “Say it again.”
Tenya’s eyes widen and he stares for a moment. This turns out to be long enough for Katsuki to immediately pull back, muttering something about ignoring him.
So, being the reasonable individual Tenya is, he kisses Katsuki square on the lips, both hands coming up to cradle his jaw and keep him in place so Tenya can just kiss him firmly. The little gasp that Tenya draws from Katsuki gives him free access and so he pushes his tongue into Katsuki’s mouth and begins to map it in earnest, as if he’s never kissed him before. After a slow few moments, Katsuki kisses him back, hands coming up to grip the front of Tenya’s shirt.
It’s slow and warm for a long moment. What ruins it is the inherent need to breathe.
Tenya breaks the kiss but doesn’t pull away, instead leaning their foreheads together so they’re breathing the same air. They pant for breath for a long moment, just sharing each other.
“You’re really cute.” Tenya breathes, “You wanted me to say it again, right? Well I stand by it. You are really cute.”
Katsuki shudders and Tenya isn’t sure whether it’s from the cold or not. “You’re really fuckin’ cheesy, you know that four eyes?”
Tenya huffs, a smile growing on his face. “I am aware, yes.”
Katsuki kisses him again, standing up on his toes to reach properly/, and Tenya finds that he hums into it ever so softly. This is nice. It’s really nice, and Tenya couldn’t be happier.
That is, until Katsuki starts shivering in his arms and breaks the kiss to spit, “It’s fuckin’ cold as a witch’s tit out here.”
This causes Tenya to bark a laugh in surprise. “Gods, Katsuki, you’ve certainly got a mouth on you.”
“You love my mouth, though.” Katsuki smirks wickedly up at him and it’s Tenya’s turn to flush.
After Katsuki has finished laughing at him, he pecks Tenya’s lips once more before saying, “Alright, dickwad, you’re carrying me back up.”
“Why do I have to carry you?” Tenya asks.
“Because I have a fuckin’ piano tied to my ass.” Katsuki deadpans, “You carried me down here, so carry me up again.”
Tenya supposes it’s only fair, so he obeys and scoops Katsuki up into his arms in a bridal carry (or a princess carry, whichever). Then he calmly starts heading back up the stairs. Katsuki buries his face in the crook of Tenya’s neck and hums, pleased, as they get back inside and the heating washes over them. Sure enough, Tenya’s nose starts to run from the cold and he sniffs once or twice as he’s toeing off his shoes.
“I’ll run a bath for us.” Tenya mutters, “Scorching hot, as per usual?”
Katsuki grins toothily at him and throws his arms around his neck in a hug. “This is why you’re the best.”
“You didn’t swear in that sentence.” Tenya says as he walks them both toward the bathroom. “I’m proud of you.”
“Shut your fucking mouth.” Katsuki’s eye roll may as well have been audible. “You know what I meant, you son of a bitch.”
“You’re a menace.” Tenya says affectionately, kissing his forehead.
And the hum that he gets out of that is definitely worth- well, everything.
————————————
After about an hour and a half, they’re back in bed with Katsuki snuggled into his chest and Tenya’s face buried in Katsuki’s hair. Tenya has no idea if Katsuki is awake or not, but either way he’s still as cute as ever. In fact, he may even be cuter than normal because, for as cute as he looks when he’s mad, he looks so peaceful right now.
No matter what the answer may be, Tenya is just happy to pet his hair softly and press kisses to his head. It’s moments like these that are so special to Tenya, the soft ones that will last in his memory forever. These are the moments that most people wouldn’t believe exist, but that makes them all the sweeter because they’re for Tenya alone. They’re his and only his and that… that’s special.
“Y’know…” Ah, seems Katsuki isn’t asleep. “I liked today.”
“Even though I threw you into a pile of snow?” Tenya asks.
Katsuki nods, nose brushing against his sternum. “Even though you threw my ass into a fucking pile of snow.”
“Well I’m glad you had a good day, Katsuki.” Tenya smiles.
Katsuki hums when Tenya’s nails buff just right against the base of his skull. “Tenya…”
Tenya’s eyes widen.
And just like that, Katsuki falls still in his arms, out for the count. Tenya’s heart does a funny little jig in his chest as he watches his boyfriend sleep for a moment. The look on his face is oddly soft, he’s almost smiling, and that does something awful to Tenya’s psyche.
As he’s falling asleep, Tenya murmurs three words into Katsuki’s hair. They’re barely audible, little more than a hushed exhale, but he means them all the same.
Perhaps they’ll get there someday, but for now Tenya is going to sleep with Katsuki in his arms.
He doesn’t really need much else.
