Chapter 1: Casino Royale

Chapter Text

“This way, baby.”

Gelato’s grip on his boyfriend’s hand tightens as he drags the two of them into a supply closet.  Once inside, Sorbet envelops him in his arms, ready to shield him from any enemies if need be but so eager just to feel the warmth of his body against his, even when danger lurks around the corner.

It was supposed to be a simple Vegas vacation.  They’d see the sights, make out at an Elton John concert, steal a few wallets here and there, and greet the new millennium with a kiss.  It’s just that the perfect opportunity to rob a casino presented itself and now they’re fleeing from homicidal stand users.

“This was a mistake, wasn’t it?”

“Mm, maybe,” says Sorbet, “but think of all the cat food we can buy for Formaggio with a million dollars.  We’ll get Ghiaccio some nice shoes.  He’s a growing boy, after all.”

“He’s not growing any more and you know it.”

Minutes pass. Their pursuers haven’t found them yet but Gelato won’t let his guard down.  Outside, he hears the sound of revelers counting down.

“It’s going to be 2000 soon, babe,” Gelato says.  “Time to find out if there’s anything to this Y2K business.”

“If society collapses, there’s no one I’d rather be with than you.  I am terribly sorry about this, dear.  I was hoping to start the new year with you in a very agreeable manner –that is, in bed- but, well, we have our finances to consider.”

Gelato laughs, stands on his tiptoes so he can kiss him right at midnight.

“Aw, baby, you know I’m always up for a little danger.  You wanna blend into the crowd and get out of here?”

Incidentally, Ghiaccio loves the bright red shoes they buy with the casino money.
