“Alright Mizusaki! As the animators of this club, we have creative freedom!”
Midori declared, putting her hands on Mizusaki’s shoulders and looking her in the eye with determination and excitement.
“I think we should move to our next brilliant idea!”
Midori pulled her sketchbook out of her bag and riffled through the pages before finding what she was looking for.
“Here!”
Mizusaki took the picture, holding it up to the light. The scene depicted was a cityscape, made of crystalline glass. The entire thing has a rainbow shimmer to it. Clearly, it had taken Midori ages to colour the singular drawing.
Mizusaki’s eyes sparkled as she admired it.
“I love it!”
Midori bounced up and down excitedly.
“I knew you’d get it!”
Mizusaki pulled out her sketchbook as well, opening to a more recent drawing. She ripped it out and handed it over to Midori, who turned to hold it against the window, laying it on top of the other page. Mizusaki’s sketch depicted a girl with long hair that faded from purple to pink to orange, flowing down to her waist. The rest of the rainbow was incorporated into the various swirls in the long dress she was wearing.
“Amazing, Mizusaki!”
Midori praised, admiring the drawing.
“We could have this girl running through your city and have the sun reflecting off everything with this big rainbow!” Mizusaki proposed, sketching out a few more details on the page.
“It’s perfect!” Midori announced. “But now…”
She trailed off.
“We have to convince Kanamori.” They finished in unison.
The pair sighed, looking down awkwardly.
Convincing Kanamori to let them do anything risky was a task and a half.
“Well Midori, it’s up to you. Do your best.” She nudged Midori forward.
“Whoa, wait why am I asking her?” Midori asked.
“She’s your childhood friend.” Mizusaki pointed out.
“She’s your girlfriend! ” Midori shot back.
Mizusaki slumped over in her seat.
“You’re right…”
Midori grinned.
“Right. Now… Good luck!”
And with that Midori pointed Mizusaki down the stairs and watched the scene unfold from the balcony. Kanamori was sitting at the couches on the bottom floor, clearly having observed the discussion from upstairs.
“What were you and Midori talking about?” Kanamori asked suspiciously.
Mizusaki took a deep breath.
"Oh Sayaka~ Beautiful angel, light of my life, tall queen-"
Kanamori sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"What does Midori wanna do now?"
Mizusaki bounced on the balls of her feet.
"We want to animate in full colour this time. Specifically this rainbow cityscape with crystals and stuff! And the main character will be this girl with long legs and rainbow hair and-“
Mizusaki handed over the sketches and watched Kanamori scan them with her eyes.
“Do you two think you’ll be able to finish an animation in full colour in time?” Kanamori deadpanned. “With all these different colours, and the movement of the dress and hair?”
Mizusaki shrugged.
"I mean, we won't know until we try?"
Kanamori just stared at her girlfriend. Mizusaki tiptoed forward and left a light kiss on Kanamori’s forehead.
“Please, Sayaka?” She said, making puppy dog eyes.
Kanamori sighed.
"You're lucky I love you so much." She said, wrapping her arms around Mizusaki and pulling her into her lap.
"Does that mean-?”
Kanamori smiled softly, amused at her girlfriend's antics.
"Yes, you and Midori can do a rainbow cityscape... and a matching rainbow girl…“
Mizusaki hugged Kanamori tighter and gave her a peck on the cheek.
"You're the best girlfriend ever~"
Kanamori smirked.
"Yes, I am."
She looked into Mizusaki’s eyes.
“However, you-“ She tapped the end of Mizusaki’s nose with her finger. “Are a close second, Tsubame.”
The took of them looked at each other for a moment before bursting into laughter.
“You’re so cheesy!” Mizusaki giggled.
“Oh, says you, coming in with compliments whenever you want something!” Said Kanamori, pointing an accusing finger in Mizusaki’s face.
“I mean them all!” She protested, still smiling.
They laughed again, pausing momentarily for a brief kiss, only to be interrupted by Midori calling over the railing.
“Oi! Did she say yes?”
Kanamori called back in a monotone voice.
“Yeah, go ahead.”
Midori grinned and her eyes lit up.
“Great! Thanks, Kanamori!”
She turned around, returning to her sketchbook to create more concept art.
“Alright, you gotta get back up there too, Mizusaki.” Kanamori nudged.
Mizusaki pouted.
“Carry me!” She declared, throwing her arms around Kanamori’s neck and draping her legs over her arms, effectively placing herself in a bridal carry.
Kanamori sighed, but scooped up Mizusaki and carried her up the stairs.
“Yay!” Mizusaki cheered, throwing her arms in the air.“Yeah, yeah.” Kanamori said, trying not to drop Mizusaki as she made her way up the rickety steps.
“Oh and by the way?” Kanamori mentioned. “I’d like that rainbow sketch when you’re done with it.”
Mizusaki beamed.
“Yep!”
