Chapter 1: Prologue-Innocent Beginnings

Chapter Text

I’ve always had trouble making friends, I’ve been too quiet and never had the confidence others do. But I have enjoyed watching others, I swear it’s not in a creepy way, I just enjoy viewing the world around me as a bystander.

I write what I see into a diary I keep on my phone, not only is it a good way to remember things, but it’s helped me develop some great observational skills, unfortunately the only use I’ve found for these skills is playing hidden object games.

I’m not sad or lonely, I do have friends after all, even if they're just in my head. Sitting on my bed I pull the covers around me until I’m comfortably cocooned, closing my eyes I feel the world around me disappear until I open my eyes to see the massive form of Dues.

“Ah, it’s (y/n), please wait a moment, I’m working on something exciting.” His deep voice echoes around the cathedral and I lower the blanket from my head.

“What do you mean by exciting?” I tilt my head in confusion, not used to hearing his plans, normally he enjoys being just vague enough that I never get any answers to my questions, but now he’s starting the conversation.

“I’m planning a game.”

“What type of game?” He only chuckles in response to my question and I don’t know what I expected from the god of time and space.

I pull out my phone adding this to my diary, even if it’s in my head this is all important to me.

- 15:45 (House) -

I can’t wait to see what kind of game Dues is making.

- Mood: Curious -

“You’re always writing in that diary, isn’t it rude to stare at your phone all the time?” I notice Merumuru sitting on my bed leaving food everywhere and can’t help but wish she would take her own advice and be more polite.

“Ha-ha, sorry, I’m just more comfortable using my phone than talking.” I nervously laugh attempting to brush off the mess she’s made on my bed, only for her to increase her appetite.

“That’s lame, wouldn’t you rather enjoy being a part of things?” She complains in an annoyed tone leading to another nervous laugh to escape me, I can’t say that I’ve never thought about it, but connecting with the world outside my head just seems impossible.

Closing my eyes and releasing a sigh, I find myself back in my room, but I can still hear the voice of Dues in my head.

“Are you Lonely?”

“…maybe.”

“If you could change your future, would you?”

“What are you taking about?” The only answer I receive is a sinister chuckle, I hear my phone ding but brush it off as a game notification, after all, nobody but Kaa-San has my number and she has a personalized ring tone. Placing my phone on the bed side table I lay down on my bed snuggling into the blanket, there’s no use worrying over the words of a god that only exists in my mind.
