Work Text:
Seokjin has a bad habit of playing video games until the late hours of the night, before dawn comes. He’s usually aware of the time he should stop, especially on a school night because college is still important and regardless of everyone claiming him as a shut in on the weekends (which he won’t deny is the truth because video games man, it’s maple story my guy have you ever played?) he’s still able to study when necessary passing with above average grades. Seokjin is smart, he knows he’s smart, but he doesn’t have to prove to anyone that he is, he doesn’t give a shit what anyone thinks.
But last night, Seokjin went on to play three more hours than intended, was leveling up like crazy and having the time of his life. That also ended very badly because Seokjin fell asleep on his desk at 7 in the morning and woke up to his blaring alarm at 10:45am which meant he had classes in 15 minutes. This wouldn’t be a problem if Seokjin’s class wasn’t on the other side of campus, if he had stopped playing three hours earlier, if he didn’t think leveling up was more crucial to his life than REM sleep, but Seokjin has done all of the above so he really caused this himself.
Now, he’s dressed in yesterday's pants, a crumpled up, but clean sweater he has yet to put away in a drawer from doing laundry the other day, hastily brushed teeth, all done within five minutes. He’s rushing down the stairs of his apartment with his backpack in tow. His universities campus is huge, so he’ll most likely, barely make it on time, maybe even five minutes late which isn’t too bad, but when your professor is a giant living asshole for a living who locks the door right when class starts, then he’s screwed over.
Who does that anyone? Does his professor know that people could be late for more legitimate reasons? He’s not mad at himself being locked out personally, but the girl in his class whose taking 18 credits who's graduating this semester and has to take this shitty prereq class because it interfered with her core classes since being accepted, or the older man who has a kid he drops off everyday before he comes to class because he‘s striving for a higher education for his kid, those are valid reasons to come in even five minutes late.
Not Seokjin’s reason though, he’s just a game addict by choice and now he’s sprinting across campus so he doesn’t get locked out due to poor schedule management via maplestory.
Sure he would skip class, but he’s already made the effort to dress up and decide that yes, he should go to class in under 10 minutes.
He’s jogging past students, so many students and some squeak, some scream, some shout for him not to run, and he’s sure he heard a police officer yell at him, but god forbid he’s missing this class. He’s a sagittarius, people around him should just know he’s acting like this because of his zodiac sign. They wouldn’t understand anyway if they’re still yelling at him to stop, it’s a sagittarius thing.
Careful to not run into anyone, he’s able to dodge an incredible number of students that Seokjin thinks he should deserve a high five for. Because he’s feeling smug for just that split second, he doesn’t realize that someone right ahead of him drops something, and bends down to pick something up facing away from Seokjin. Seokjin realizes this last minutes and yelps when he comes close to crashing into the standerby.
Almost crashes, meaning Seokjin didn’t hit the person, but oh does he fling himself into a world of physical pain.
Seokjin tries to suddenly stop, but his body couldn’t properly stop on time, and he’s soaring over the the guy bent over, and with a squeaky yelp, he’s somersaulting across the pavement and ends face up as the sun blurs his vision.
“Oh my god, oh my god, are you ok?!”
A giant shadow cast over Seokjin’s body and maybe it’s the concussion he may have from tumbling over this guy, but the world is quiet and he’s face to face with the most handsomest man he’s ever see (you know, minus himself and the fact that he’s got on a scared shitless expression about what just happened to Seokjin.)
“I’m ok, don’t worry,” Seokjin rubs a palm on his head, quickly getting up into a sitting position and asks. “it was my fault, really, I’m sorry, but are you ok?”
The man just stares at him, more shocked as his features seem to settle from concerned to astonished, but he’s still eyeing Seokjin, staring at him so intently like he’s not real, almost imaginary.
Seokjin brows furrow, wondering why the fuck this guy is just blinking at him. Seokjin waves a hand and it catches the guys' attention. “Sorry, just, didn’t know I would meet my soulmate like this.” the guy says.
Now it’s Seokjin’s turn to blink at him and in the distance he sees the college kids all behind them, frozen and not moving an inch. The birds stopped midair and traffic just on the other side of the street has stopped. And Seokjin is looking back at the man, the only one who is moving with him, staring at him because this is the power that the soulmate bond has, to stop time when you look each other in the eyes for five minutes.
If the circumstance wasn’t the way it was, then Seokjin would have handled this a lot better, would deal with the aftermaths of finally finding his soulmate more delicately, maturely.
But Seokjin has other plans.
“Are you busy right now soulmate, got somewhere to go?” Seokjin asks quick. The guy nods no. “good, I’m going to need you to do something with me right now.”
“Ok.”
Seokjin springs up and starts gunning it towards the literature department building. “START RUNNING WITH ME, I’M GOING TO BE LATE.”
Seokjin only hears the sound of his footsteps at first, rapidly taking him at a faster speed, pace then he was originally, you know before time stopped. He grazes past lots of students, teachers, people in mid conversations, and other college like cliches you would find on a typical university campus.
Then, he hears even louder footsteps right behind him, and then their right next to him. Seokjin glances at the man and although he’s running just as fast as him, he’s smiling at him. And Seokjin can’t help but think cute, he has dimples.
The minute they arrive at the literature building, time resumes and everythings back to normal. Seokjin and the mystery man breathe heavily on a bench next to the building, trying to regain as much composure, to steady their breathing again. Seokjin pulls out his phone and sees he still has five minutes before class begins.
Seokjin suddenly stands up and the man next to him does too. He opens his mouth to say something, but is at a loss for words because he doesn’t know what to say so Seokjin takes his hand in his, making the other man blush.
“Here,” Seokjin pulls out a marker from his backpack and starts scribbling on the others hand. “here’s my number. If you still want this lunatic of a guy to be your soulmate still even though he made you run across campus because he was late from playing maplestory all night then by all means, text me tonight.”
Seokjin winks and leaves the guy behind while the man stares awestruck at the the number written on his hand.
