Chapter Text
Saiki’s POV:
Nendou’s an idiot. Of course, everyone already knows this, but things can always get worse. And it just got worse.
“Hey Buddy! Do you mind if we bring Saiko with us to get ramen?” I would consider staying at home, but my mom was standing right behind me, making it obvious in her mind that I was being forced to go.
Ugh, I don’t even like ramen! Or being around these plebes, why am I even here? Saiko was standing right behind Nendou, obviously pissed about this whole situation. I don’t know why you’re here either, but seeing as Nendou’s inviting you for ramen, you’re pretty high up on his friend’s list. Lets just hope you don’t graduate to ‘Buddy’.
“I don’t mind,” I project into their heads. My mom smiles at me and goes back to the kitchen to clean dishes. We leave my house and start walking to Nendou’s favorite ramen shop.
“Ugh! I don’t even like ramen!” Wow, I didn’t think he’d actually say it.
“Huh? What, Buddy?” Oh, he’s graduated to buddy, “That’s okay, lets go get some nuggets!” What? Saiko’s even more confused now. What the hell is a nugget? Don’t worry, I was confused at first, too.
Nendou turned around and led us in the opposite direction of the raman shop. I bet he’s just taking us to McDonalds. And I was right.
This McDonalds looked nicer than most that I’ve seen, but it was still a McDonalds at the end of the day. Same gross food, just better interior design.
What the hell is this place? Saiko isn’t having a very good time though.
“You can just leave if you want,” I project to him.
“What? No, I’m not leaving you stupid Plebes!” That’s odd, I knew he felt this way, but I never knew he’d admit it. Deep down, he just really wants friends. Saiko crosses his arms, a slight blush on his face.
What’s going on, I’m too rich to blush because of these stupid commoners. Good grief, he’s denser than I thought.
“You two go sit, I’ve got this ordering thing down!” Nendou exclaims, giving us a thumbs up. I nod and start walking towards one of the cleaner tables. Saiko just follows me. I sit down in a booth seat, Saiko sits next to me even though there’s a full booth across from me.
“I don’t want the chance of sitting next to him,” Saiko says, looking away from me. Also, out of everyone at the school, you and Teruhashi are probably the best… Well that’s also a surprise.
I just nod, I do understand not wanting to sit next to Nendou.
Nendou eventually comes over with our food and drinks and sits across from us. “Hey! I’m glad my buddies are getting along with one another!” Saiko’s face starts glowing red as he reaches across and grabs one of the large sodas on the table. Ew, what is this? At least you haven’t said anything to upset him yet.
“So what is a ‘nugget’?” He finally asked. Saiko really is dense sometimes. Nendou just gets a large grin on his face as he shoves a box of Chicken Nuggets in Saiko’s direction.
“You just have to try one, Buddy!” Saiko grimaces as he looks at the cardboard box. He expects me to eat whatever’s in that box? Does Saiki like this stuff too? Nope, just Nendou. I guess I’ll try one…
Saiko opens the box of overly processed food, picking one of the nuggets up out of the box. It’s so… gross feeling… Nonetheless, he hesitantly takes a bite out of it. It’s not that bad… Well that’s certainly not expected.
Saiko, shrugs and eats more of the greasy food. He doesn’t look upset, or pleased, just neutral as he eats the rest of what’s in his box. Would it be weird to ask if I could have Saiki's? He's not eating it. He won’t admit it, but he really likes the chicken nuggets. I slide mine over to him, it’s not like I really need to eat anyways.
“Pfft- why would I want your gross food?” Saiko laughs, eagerly taking the box from me. Nendou is too focused on his meal to notice Saiko’s reaction to eating the disgusting food. Nendou finishes pretty quickly and whispers something along the lines of “yummy nuggies”
“Well! Time for ramen!” You just ate Nendou, “Hey, this place is great, but I still want ramen,” Of course you do, Nendou…
“I think I’m just going to go home,” Saiko says after finishing his second box of nuggets, after ordering another one…
He must really like chicken nuggets. I guess he’s never had it before, so it’s just a new food for him.
“I’m going to go to cafe Mami,” I would’ve stood up to do as I said, but Saiko was still sitting in the booth, blocking me from my chance to get coffee jelly.
“Oh, alright, I’m gonna head out then! See ya buddies!” Nendou jumps out of his seat and runs to the exit. Saiko sighs, forgetting that I’m there for a while.
“I feel miserable,” Saiko groans, “Sorry,”
“Don’t worry about it, do you want to get an actually well prepared dessert?” I suggest. I’d do anything for sweets, even if it meant dragging him along to get him out of this booth.
“Yeah, that sounds better than my plan…” Saiko stands up and offers me his hand. That’s a first. He’s not as much of a plebe as I thought he was… You’re just doing this because I gave you my food. I take his hand and he lifts me from the booth. He doesn’t let go of my hand as we walk to Cafe Mami.
“I’m paying this time,” Saiko says as we make it to the door. I just nod, staring at his hand until I can’t see anything but bones.
I could take my hand out of his, but I don’t even think he notices that he’s holding my hand. Mera must have been working overtime, because she greeted us as we entered the cafe.
“Oh, hey guys! Table for two?” She asks, grabbing two menus and leading us to a nice looking booth.
“Thank you,” Saiko says, finally letting go of my hand as he sits across from me. I don’t even look at the menu before Mera comes back.
“What can I get you both?” She had a small notepad out as she waited for our orders. I don’t say anything, yet she writes down my order perfectly.
“I’ll have… do you have some sort of chocolate cake?” Mera makes a happy sound and nods her head, writing down the name of the menu item, “Okay, and I’ll have a coffee as well.” Mera smiles and nods again, walking to the kitchen.
“She didn’t take your order,” Saiko says, his brow furrowing, “That’s kind of rude isn’t it?” Hey, now he’s getting it.
“I come here so often, she already knows what I want,” I reply, “But in any other circumstance, yes, it’s rude.” Saiko makes an ‘oh’ face and sets his hands on the table. It’s obvious that he doesn’t know how to react to this.
“Well, what do you usually order?” Saiko asks, Is this weird? Is small talk weird? It’s weird…
“Coffee and Coffee Jelly,” I tell him, “It's really good here,” Saiko smiles at me and nods.
“Well if you order it every time, I suppose it would have to be,” Saiko’s expression lightened up after a bit. Saiki isn’t so bad… he’s actually pretty good company. Thanks, you're not as bad as I thought you were either.
Our food gets to us and I instantly forget all about Saiko being with me, I take the first bite of coffee jelly, closing my eyes and smiling into the bite. Cute… Oh yeah, I forgot he was here. Oh well, coffee jelly will take my mind off of it again. When I finish my jelly and coffee, Saiko slides his untouched cake over to me.
“I took your food earlier, here,” I really just want to watch him smile like that again. I’m fine with that, their cake is also really good. I smile at him and nod. The only thing that can make me smile; sweets. I take the cake, and start eating again. Wow, he’s really cute…
Hmm, I should worry about that… later, cake is now, people’s feelings are later.
