The Red String of Fate

Summary:

This wasn’t going to end well, Hawks knew this he wasn’t stupid. His soulmate was a villain and that wasn’t even the worst thing that had happened. Something is off with Endeavor’s family and now he needed to keep his soulmate from doing stupid things because for some reason he was responsible for that. At least the League of villains hadn’t figured out where he lived, no they had, that was exactly what had happened. This was slowing becoming the worst day of his life.

Shouto thought that he hadn’t been old enough to find his soulmate yet, it only happened in 1% of the cases while you were under seventeen years old, yeah he had been very wrong about that, his soulmate was just a few months older than him and the damn string needed to form in the middle of class, when they were being taught something about soulmates and where everyone was able to see it. The problem was that he would need to introduce his soulmate to his family, which wouldn’t end well.

In which soulmates exist, Hawks crashes on Endeavor’s couch but he isn’t alone, there is a lot of sibling bonding and Endeavor gets what he deserves.

Chapter Text

Hawks was on patrol, later this night he would finally be able to meet up with someone that was close or even a part of the League of Villains, it had taken weeks and this meant that his mission was actually going to start soon. The commission trusted him on this, he wasn’t going to fail, he couldn’t fail because Hawks wouldn’t be able to deal with the consequences of that. He was sitting on the top of a building and cold air was rushing through the feathers of his wings. He would meet up with a villain later, for now he needed to do his everyday job.

There wasn’t much going on in this part of the city. He had only stopped a robbery today and the thief had been so dumb that it he could laugh at it. The guy had possessed some sort of weather control quirk, but he had been rather easily to catch, the man had also been stupid enough to try to rob the store his soulmate worked in, both of them had already had the marks so it was pretty obvious that they had met before. Someone was definitely going to testify and the woman didn’t seem happy about it at all. That was another reason why certain people didn’t like the concept of soulmates at all. But they existed and fate couldn’t be changed so being stubborn about it didn’t help anyone. You couldn’t run away from your soulmate, no one could.

He heard how his phone rang and picked the call up after he had took it out of his pocket. Why was Miruko calling him? Most of the pro heroes in the top ten had each other’s phone numbers out of pure necessity in emergencies, except Endeavor who preferred to work alone most of the time and didn’t want anyone to have his number. But still why was she calling him? He didn’t even know her or had worked with her more than once.

“Hey, what’s up any problems? Need me to call the cavalry?”, he asked.

“Now shut it, that’s not why I am calling, I am not in trouble per say but I need someone to take over patrol for me and you seem like a person who doesn’t have much of a life outside of work”, came her answer through the speaker.

Hawks could swear that there were more voices in the background, those of children at least it sounded like that. Where the hell was, she?

“What happened, I thought you loved your job, didn’t miss a day at work even when you were sick”, Hawks said.

“I was visiting an elementary school, giving an inspirational speech or something like that because the kids would surely love to meet an actual hero. Though I don’t understand why they couldn’t have sent someone who was actually good with children. Well that didn’t matter because their teacher turned out to be my soulmate. Which means that we are kind of tied together for now and I don’t want to drag a civilian into my job. I called everyone else and no one had time, so can you do me that favor?”, she replied.

“Sorry, I can’t, need to complete a mission for the commission, it’s really important that’s all I can tell you so, no I can’t take over your patrol too. You need to ask someone else.”

“Good then I have no other choice but to drag a civilian into probably life-threatening danger”

“Come on it’s not like you of all people would let anyone hurt your soulmate”

“No but I am pretty close to kicking one of the damn children because they are pretty close to swarming us and now want to know everything about soulmates and guess what mine just sits down and answers every single one of them because she’s their goddamn teacher.”

“Not that I am being jealous or anything but how does your soulmate look?”

“Like an angel”

“I shouldn’t have asked someone who was still in a love rush from meeting their soulmate that, right?”

“She looks like an angel, like the kindest one you could ever imagine”

“Yeah you’re already in love like every other person”

“Is there some irony in your voice, because it sounds like that”

“I’m really kind of sorry but I also can’t help you this is about some really high ranked villain and I need to do this alone”

“Okay, calm down it’s not like you are hunting down the League of Villains or something”

“Yeah, just don’t drag your soulmate into too much danger, call for backup if the situations gets too bad and even if your soulmate has a quirk don’t even think about it, never would have guessed that I would be the more mature one in any situation”

“Shut up Hawks let’s just hope that Endeavor doesn’t beat me up or something”

“What? Why would he-“, the man wasn’t able to finish a question.

Miruko had already hung up on him. What in the world had that even meant? Maybe she thought that Endeavor would get angry if she dragged a civilian into a life-threatening situation. But why had she phrased it like it was something personal? Didn’t matter he needed to finish his patrol and he only had two hours left until he was going to meet a villain that was at least closely connected to the league. Letting that person wait was probably not a good idea and he didn’t want to ruin his reputation on the first meeting, he could do that later on.
So, Miruko had found her soulmate, an elementary school teacher which was kind of funny and ridiculous at same time but for some reason it also fit. Well that happened quite often with soulmates, it wasn’t unordinary. How likely was it that he found his before he died a tragic young dead because he tried to infiltrate a villain organization?

Turned out it was very likely because right now he was staring at a newly formed red string that connected his left ring finger to that of another person, it wouldn’t stay there forever but there was no fixed time span. He hoped he wasn’t going to be a burned chicken in a few moments.

“That’s a fucking joke isn’t it?!”

Dabi didn’t seem to be happy about this either. Yes, he had actually met up with a member of the League and that had been well until the red string had appeared. The villain had tried to burn it off at first, which hadn’t worked for obvious reasons and then he had tried to set Hawks on fire. The hero had luckily been able to dodge the flames coming towards him.

“Look I am not that happy about it either but hey, fate thinks we are fir together so why not you know make the best out of it?”, Hawks asked.

Yeah this wasn’t going to end well for him and he should probably abort the mission and get his ass to safety but for some reason he didn’t even try to move away. He was a stupid idiot who’s only change to survive this was the normal love rush that you got when you met your soulmate and which stayed permanently but affected people a bit less over time. Because no scientist had been able to figure out how all of this actually worked. In Hawk’s case it was definitely there and even if that hadn’t been the case the villain was not unattractive and yeah in hindsight it was probably 99% the influence of the string.

“There is no making the best out of it, my soulmate is a fucking hero, who after what I heard can’t even decide on which side he wants to be. Fate hates me it official she hates me”, the villain hissed.

“She? How can you be sure that fate is female?”, Hawks raised an eyebrow.

“We are not discussing the gender of something that probably doesn’t even exist. Because this thing is the issue at hand right now hero”

Dabi was waving around in the air with his left hand. There simply being a string for a few days or even weeks wouldn’t be an issue the problem was that they couldn’t get more than 10 feet away from each other. Yes, it would have been better if this hadn’t happened but fate was not changeable so they had to deal with this. Who would have guessed that he would meet his soulmate on the same day as Miruko, what was the likelihood of that? Something pretty close to zero for sure.

“Okay look hotstuff, we should stay calm for now before someone does something that they are going to regret in a few minutes”

“What did you just call me hero?”

“It’s just a nickname man calm down and we need to somehow figure out how to deal with this”

“There is no way we can deal with this or hide it from anyone this is fucking bad”

But Dabi was right and Hawks knew that they were fucked like really fucked because the hero commission wouldn’t be happy about this and he was pretty sure that the League of Villains wouldn’t throw a party for them. There was no guide on how to behave when your soulmate turned out to be a villain. Such a book or article should exist because he couldn’t be the only one who had this problem. Was there even a law about it because how was he supposed to deal with this? Hawks was pretty fucking close to panicking.

Dabi leaned his back against the wall and tried to burn the string again. Which still didn’t work and wasn’t ever going to fucking do because it was a string of fate and not some sort of normal fabric. No one was able to break or destroy it, the string would stay there for now.

“So, what should we do now?”, asking a villain was probably not the best idea but he was running out of plans and time very quickly. They needed anything, a plan, an idea something.

“Not my job hero, you are the one who needs to deal with the fact that your soulmate is a villain”, Dabi replied.

“As if your friends would be happy about this”, Hawks told him.

At least they weren’t trying to kill each other that was good, there had been wore things that had happened in similar situations as far as he knew. They were civil with each other, well Dabi was a little bitch right now but that didn’t count.

“Toga would laugh at my face”, Dabi said.

Hawks was still debating whether or not he should call for backup because even though this man was his soulmate Dabi was also a villain. A villain that had kidnapped a teenager and hated Endeavor more than anyone else for some reason. How could anyone hate Endeavor? A villain could do so but still it didn’t seem like the normal hatred a bad guy would simply have for one of the good guys, it seemed more personal from Keigo’s part of view.

In the end he decided to call for backup, they wouldn’t kill Dabi even if that only was because the man had turned out to be Hawks soulmate. Not like anyone could really leave the other right now, because the string didn’t allow more than 10 feet to be between them and it also hurt physically if they would try to. Which no one seemed to be stupid enough to do, Hawks was thankful for that. Pretty fucking thankful because he didn’t want to get hurt for no reason whatsoever.

In hindsight though he maybe should have checked his phone again or asked who they were sending because as he smelt something that certainly shouldn’t be in the air it already was too late. They could have told him that they would send Midnight. Now he was falling unconscious for no reason whatsoever.

Notes:

So, new soulmate fic? Yes, definitely. I just needed to write some fluff after what just happened in the mange, lots and lots of fluff. Firstly, soulmates in this AU are going to explained further later on because it is way more complicated than in the other fic I wrote, like way more. And why did I just discover a few days ago that MirukoxFuyumi is a ship, like that’s really cute. But this is mostly going to be Hawks and Dabi and a lot of Todoroki family issues because all of them are in this fic. Shouto is also going to be an important character. As far as I have planned this out at least.

So, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Imaginary cookie for the wait.

I hope it isn't too bad
