Chapter Text
Its hard, sometimes, seeing Hawks at work.
The number two Hero, red wings spread out as if to protect the world from destruction. Enji remembers another pair of red wings, tattooed on a pale back. Those wings grew as his son did, showcasing his soulmate’s quirk to anyone that could see. Touya loved “his” wings, checking them in the bathroom when he thought Enji couldn't see him after training sessions that were hard for his ill-adapted body.
He wondered what had happened to make his eldest so distrusting that he wouldn't let his father see. Sometimes, it had felt like he hadn't even known his own son. Certainly towards the end, before he had disappeared from the clinic, it felt like he was a completely different person.
Seeing Hawks, seeing his son’s soulmate, just made him miss his eldest even more. Sure they had problems, but raising Shouto had shown him how to be a better parent, to be a better dad.
Seeing the wings his son had cared for so much on another person sometimes gave him hope that Touya was out there, alive, in reach of Japan’s number one Hero.
He shouldn't let himself think like that. If Touya was alive, and with access to internet, what if he wasn't, what if he was being held somewhere, god what if he’s dead, and didn't want to be in contact, then thats fine. Enji wasn't going to push where he wasn't wanted. Besides, who knew what kind of person his eldest had grown into, with how disrespectful and uncontrollable he had been as a teenager.
It didnt matter. His son, his Touya, was gone. Hawks was here and he was dedicated to the people of Japan, to keeping the peace and leading the world to a better place. Enji knows that Touya would’ve been like that, a hero fighting for justice despite the risks, willing to martyr himself for the cause. Hawks’s interactions with the League had just gone to show how devoted he was to the Commission’s way of protecting the people and he hoped Touya would’ve been like his soulmate in that regard.
Tonight was one of those nights when Hawks would meet with his Villain handler, and Endeavor felt nothing but disgust the garbage that had turned their back on society for evil and the false future the League wanted.
He watched Hawks take off from the rooftop for his inclandestine meeting and couldn’t help but think that maybe if there was a little bit less villainy in the world, the Todoroki family would be whole.
