Work Text:

Izuku was not in a good mood. She knew exactly why she was in a bad mood, but that just soured her mood even more.

She hated her period. Hated it with a burning passion for what it did to her. Hated that she had to spend a fourth of nearly all her life feeling on the brink of death. She didn't sign up for this crap! Was there a uterus exchange program? Or a place where she could return her’s? It was definitely defective.

She knew all female bodied people experienced pain and discomfort during their period, but hers were worse than most. Much worse. She had to miss school a lot due to being stuck at home, curled up in pain in her bed, sheets soaked with sweat and tears. She hurt so bad she just wanted to scream and cry and rip her hair out, anything to make it just stop!

Thankfully, there was a silver lining to all of it.

Kacchan was a, surprisingly, very attentive boyfriend. When they started dating in middle school, she had assumed their relationship would come second to his hero career, which she was fine with. She didn’t want to stand in the way of his dream, but he was very committed to her. She really shouldn’t have been as surprised as she was, he never half assed anything, after all. And things were great! She had had a crush on Kacchan for as long as she could remember, she would even go so far as to say she loved him, and she was so happy to finally, officially, be with him! It was cute how, at first, he was a bit of a tsundere.

He still didn’t seem to know how to deal with his feelings, leading him to grumble constantly when he wanted her attention, which she was happy to give him. At that point, she hadn’t started her period, she truly was a late bloomer, but when it started, it threw everyone through a loop.

She had woken up that fateful first day in quite the foul mood, which startled her. For the first time ever, in her life, she couldnt stand listening to her mother wishing her good morning, she just wanted to yell at her to shut up. That thought scared her, and she stayed quiet most of the day, afraid of doing something she’d regret. It didn’t help that Kacchan kept trying to get her to talk about it. All day, he was asking her what was wrong, if she was okay, if she needed anything, and she got so frustrated that she yelled at him to shut up! She had never yelled at Kacchan, had never wanted to yell at Kacchan, but she was too angry to apologize for her behavior at that moment. But she had been slowly feeling more and more pain in her stomach, leaving her sick with nausea and curled in her seat. She wanted to cry. She knew something was wrong, so she got up in the middle of class and stormed to the door, intent on heading towards the nurse’s office.

“Midoriya?” her teacher asked. “Where are you going?”

“Nurse,” she grumbled out, not even stopping to address him properly, she just needed to get to the nurses office. She managed to shuffle a few feet into the hallway when Kacchan caught up with her.

“I knew it,” he said as he wrapped her arm around his neck and looped his arm around her waist. “I knew something was wrong.”

“You wanna gold star?” she gritted out, letting out a groan of pain as she doubled over. “Ngh.”

“What’s wrong?” he fretted as she crumbled to the ground, clutching her stomach in pain.

“H-hurts,” she finally admitted with a whimper, tears squeezing out of her eyes. She let out a surprised noise as he scooped her up bridal style and carried her to the nurse. She let out a relieved sob into his neck as he ran into the infirmary, her entire body shaking with pain. She couldn’t see, and she couldn’t really hear very well, but she saw some flashing lights, and the next thing she knew she was waking up in the hospital with her mom and Kacchan beside her. Upon seeing them, she burst into tears, afraid and apologetic and just wanting it all to be over.

Turns out, she had something called ‘endometriosis’ and there were treatment options for her, thank goodness. She was told that while her condition was painful, it didn’t seem to be worsening as of that moment, but she would have to visit the doctors for monitoring.

After that, Kacchan watched over her like a hawk. Any time she showed signs of discomfort during her time of the month, he was right by her side with pain killers, water, and a bag full of pads for her to use. It was a little embarrassing, but also very sweet. Everyone in class seemed to learn very quickly to not piss her off while she was on her period, as she got very grumpy and snappy. And no one could blame her, she was in a lot of pain, so much so that she often missed school. Thankfully, Kacchan would head over as soon as school was over to catch her up on her missed work and cuddle with her. Once he mastered being able to warm his hands without setting off his Quirk, she cried from happiness when he pressed his palms against her lower torso. It felt so, so good; sweet, sweet relief. This came in handy, because she couldn’t afford the treatment for very long. It was expensive, and they struggled to make ends meet as it was, but Kacchan was literally a life saver. He quickly mastered being able to map her periods; she herself kept pretty thorough notes on it, trying to figure out the best way to treat her condition at home, but Kacchan had her cycle practically memorized. He always got her the best pain killers one could get without a prescription and made her healthy, home made foods full of nutrients. They were especially iron rich, as her iron levels dropped due to her excessive bleeding. He kept extra thick pads with him in case she ran out and even had a spare pare of his underwear for her in case she bleed through hers.

Some of the guys teased her about it at first (the girls just gave her pitying, sympathetic looks and offered her a helping hand when they could) but some of her male peers thought her occasionally bleeding through her underwear was hilarious. Before Kacchan could kick their asses, she gave them a look so cold the room dropped a few degrees in temperature. She couldn’t help that her uterus hated her, she couldn’t control it, why did they think it was okay to make fun of her over something that she not only couldn’t control, but of something she suffered every month from? They stopped bothering her after that, but Kacchan still cornered them and threatened to kick their asses, making them apologize to her the next day. After that, the other boys began to avoid her whenever they could.

Kacchan really was the perfect boyfriend. Despite his temper, he never got angry or frustrated with her when she was moody and crying all the time from her period. He just held her in his lap and rocked her back and forth as she cried and sobbed from pain, only making her drink water so she didn’t dehydrate herself and give herself too bad of a headache.

“Kacchan?” she asked one day. She was in his lap on his bed, on her period, of course. There had been a lull in her pain, so she decided to ask him a question that had been on her mind for a while.

“Hmm? What’s up? Do you need more Tylenol? Are you hungry?” he asked, making her smile. He was so good to her.

“No, I just wanted to ask, how are you so good at this?”

“Hmm?” he asked, cocking a brow at her.

“It’s just, you’re really attentive and accommodating, you always seem to know exactly what I want, and or need,” she shrugged, nervously fiddling with her fingers.

“Oh,” he said. “It’s just what I saw my dad do.”

“Eh?”

“Whenever the old hag was on her period, she would get so upset she’d start crying. She’s not like you, she doesn't cry easily, so my dad would make her food and hold her until she stopped crying,” he shrugged. “Seemed to work well for him, figured it’d work for you. Plus, I know you. I know what you like, an’ all that mushy shit,” he said, resting his chin on the top of her head. Her face felt hot as she absorbed his words, tears of happiness pricking at her eyes as she began to sniffle. “What’s wrong?”

“Y-you’re so, *sniff* so good to meeee!” she wailed as she threw her arms around his neck and cried. He patiently waited for her to cry herself out, rubbing up and down her back until she calmed down.

“Let’s work on some of the work you missed, and then we can nap, yeah?” he asked.

“Mm,” she nodded.

Fast forward to the present. She and Kacchan were both in UA, in the same class no less! And she was pretty happy! However, she still dreaded whenever her period was coming up, speaking of which...

“You’re going to start cramping tomorrow,” Kacchan told her as they walked to class.

“Mm, thanks,” she nodded at him as he took her hand in his.

“Make sure you wear a pad to bed, and lay a towel down. It’s been a little while since your last period, so it’ll probably be really heavy.”

“Right,” she nodded again before laughing. “I think you know my cycle better than I do, Kacchan,” she giggled. “I know I keep track of it pretty well, but you go above and beyond!”

“Tch, course,” he huffed, looking down at her. “It heavily impacts your life, of course I’m gonna keep track of it,” he scoffed.

“I really appreciate it, you know,” she told him softly, smiling up at him.

“I know you do,” he said, giving her a small smile back as he pressed a kiss to her temple. She giggled happily at the action, her cheeks warming in response. She loved his kisses.

As the day went on, she felt her mood drop. It wasn’t so bad, yet, but she could feel herself getting short with everyone. Iida’s commands were too loud, Uraraka’s giggles were gratting, Aoyama’s sparkling was hurting her eyes, everything was just so annoying, and she hated it, because normally these things didn’t bother her, and she felt bad over getting irritated over how her friends naturally acted. They weren’t trying to get on her nerves, they were just being themselves, and it was wrong to be upset with them. They weren’t doing anything wrong! Still, she couldn’t help being annoyed whenever someone began shouting. She was so caught up in her inner turmoil she hardly noticed the sting of tears pricking at her eyes until Kacchan spoke up.

“Hey,” he said gently, making her focus on him and less on her irritation, “you alright?” he asked, reaching his hand out across her desk and offering to hold hers.

“Y-yeah,” she breathed out, sniffling as she looped their fingers together. “I’m just being overly emotional, don’t worry.”

“I always worry, you know that,” he said, and before she could cry over feeling bad for making him worry, he added, “an’ don’t feel bad about that. We all worry ‘ bout people we love, don’t ya let yourself twist it in that pretty head’a yours that you’re somehow a burden’r some shit. You ain’t,” he finished, giving her a meaningful look. She let out a wet laugh as she brushed away her tears and nodded at him.

“Yeah,” she laughed, giving his hand a squeeze. “Thanks, Kacchan, I love you.”

“I know,” he smirked, “I love you too, Deku.”

The rest of class went by with minimal irritation for her. She thought, not for the first time, about if this was how Kacchan felt on a daily basis, when she felt a tap on her shoulder, causing her to turn to see Mineta grinning at her. Ugh, she wanted slap that slimy smile off his face.

“What do you want?” she snapped with a hiss, not in the mood to deal with her annoying and mischievous classmate.

“Oi, Midoriya,” he said, leering at her, making her scoff in disgust. “You seem kinda off, you alright?” he asked, cocking a brow at her. For some reason, his tone didn’t sit well with her. “You on your period?”

“That’s none of your business,” she grit out as she turned back towards the front.

“I bet you are,” he pressed on, his voice grating on her nerves. Was he always this irritating?

“Shut up,” she snapped lowly, glaring at him over her shoulder. She faintly registered YaoMomo stiffening in her seat as she caught a glimpse of her ice cold stare.

“Awe, you having mood swings?” he asked condescendingly, making their nearby classmates shoot them some looks. “See, this is why men make better heroes, females just can’t compete.”

“Dude,” Sero whispered, shaking his head.

“Enough, Mineta,” Tokoyami said.

“What? I’m not doing-“

“Oi,” Aizawa called out, making all of them face forwards. “Is everything alright over there?” he asked tiredly. Izuku wanted the ground to swallow her up. She kept quiet as she hid her face in her arms on her desk. “Midoriya?”

“She’s fine, sensei,” Kacchan spoke up.

“Yeah, fine,” Mineta copied, his voice slimy and puckish. “Just a female on her period, typical wom-uwaah!” he shouted, being knocked backwards as Izuku rushed to her feet and turned on him, OFA crackling around her in anger.

“Oh, my god! I told you to shut up!” she shouted at him, making him shrink in his seat in fear. “Are you so dense that you couldn’t tell I didn’t want to talk!? What is the matter with you!? Do you enjoy being a parasite to everyone around you!? Huh!?” she shouted, her fingers splintering the top of his desk. She very nearly threw it out the window, along with Mineta, but before she could do anything else, she was grabbed and dragged out of the room. She was dragged into the hallway where she was pulled down into someone’s, Kacchan’s, lap.

“Relax,” he said softly, wrapping his arms around her middle as tears began to flow from her eyes. She started sobbing loudly as Kacchan pulled her closer, rubbing his hands up and down her back as she cried into his chest. “I know, I know, it’s okay,” he promised. She shook her head, unable to speak through her tears but still upset with herself for being so emotional. “Hey, s’alright, I’ve got you,” he said. She continued to cry and cry until she passed out from it, an impressive feat considering, and she woke up in Kacchan’s bed.

“Wh-huh?” she asked, trying to sit up as her head throbbed. “Ow.”

“Hey,” Kacchan greeted her, sitting up as well and handing her a water bottle. “Drink.”

“What happened?” she asked as she took the water bottle with a small ‘thanks.’

“You passed out from crying so much and Aizawa came to talk to you,” he explained. “And before you say anything, don’t, it’s alright.”

“You shouldn’t have to deal with my problems, Kacchan,” she said with a sniffle, the weight of her actions suddenly crashing down on her.

“Don’t worry about it,” he brushed off, “I don’t care. Plus, you’ve bailed me out of a few potential fights, I owe you.”

“Yeah, when we were kids,” she huffed a laugh, making him smile at her.

“Anyways,” he went on, “I explained what happened to Aizawa after you passed out. We all pretty quickly figured out that Mineta was bein’a sexist little shit n’crossed the line, so you’re not takin’ the blame.”

“I shouldn’t have risen to his barbs,” she insisted shamefully.

“Well, if you’d actually hit him, like he deserved,” he scoffed, “you’d probably have gotten in trouble, but you didn’t, so you’re just getting a talkin’ to for disturbing class after the week ends.”

“Hmm?” she asked, confused.

“I told him about your condition, and how you’d probably miss class due to cramps. He seemed pretty chill about it all, to be honest. Probably hoped that bastard would get what’s comin’ to’im.”

“Kacchan,” she huffed a laugh, “that’s not nice!”

“I’m not nice, what’s your point?” he countered, making her giggle as she leaned into him.

“I think you’re very nice,” she insisted.

“Eh, only to you,” he shrugged as he pulled her back down once she capped her bottle. “You’re the only one who doesn’t piss me off,” he murmured into her hair.

“Even though I can be a pain?” she asked, tracing patterns into his collarbone.

“It ain’t that much of a pain,” he insisted. “‘Sides, you’re worth it.” She smiled wide as she hid her face in his neck, her cheeks flushing pink.

“Thank you for everything you do for me, Kacchan,” she said, clutching the front of his shirt. “I love you.”

“I know,” he said, making her hit him in the shoulder in retaliation as he chuckled. “Alright, alright, I love you, my over emotional nerd.”
