Work Text:
Kirishima was lounging around with his mother on the couch, watching TV idly before his phone violently started vibrating.
Kirishima snapped out of his trance, picking up his phone to stare at an unknown number. It seemed important as his gut screeched at him to answer. Sensing the urgency, his mom reached for the remote to pause the show. His thumb hovered over the button before swiping to answer.
“Hello?”
“Am I speaking to Kirishima Eijirou? This is Aizawa Shouta.”
The blanket resting gently on his lap gets flung away as Kirishima stands up quickly, his grip on his phone becoming tighter. His mother, who hears the conversation from the quietness of the house, widens her eyes as she springs out of her seat as well, staring at her son.
“Yes, sir.”
“I do not think I need to say much. But you scored the part. The audition was good. You’ll be emailed everything you need to know. We’ll be in touch.”
“Of course, sir. Thank you so much.”
“Have a good day.”
The moment Kirishima hung up, his mother screamed from excitement. Kirishima began laughing as he wrapped his arms around the small woman, picking her up into the air and swinging her around. Kirishima pulled the phone away from his ear. He slowly turned his head to his mother, a grin growing on his face. His mother squealed and threw her arms around her son. The latter laughed, reciprocating the hug as they. spun in excitement.
“Holy shit, I scored a part in UA High School,” Kirishima mumbled as he pulled away from his mother. She smiled and chuckled, taking his hand into hers, pulling him back down to the couch.
“My gosh, you picked a great day to come visit your old mom!” She rubbed Kirishima’s hand, prompting him to raise his head and lock eyes with his mother. He smiled brightly at her. “It’s fate, really. I’m doing this all for you.”
His mother began to tear up before lightly slapping him on the back. “Oh, hush! You’re going to make me cry! Now, come on, we need to celebrate now!”
Kirishima watched his mother usher out of the living room, mumbling to herself on what they could do to honor this day.
This is truly where his story begins.
//
Walking into his first day, Kirishima was a nervous wreck. He tripped getting out of his car after parking, and he even fumbled with his ID trying to get into the building. It was a terrible experience.
Now, while walking towards the set, Kirishima bumped into a man, causing both of them to fall over onto the floor.
At the same time, they both mumble out, “Ah, I’m sorry!”
Kirishima shakes his head before looking up. In front of Kirishima was a dark green-haired man with billions of freckles atoning his cheeks. His eyes were bright and big, with green hazel iris’. He looked a bit shorter than Kirishima himself but nonetheless looked fit.
The man scrambles up to his feet and dusts his pants off. He holds a hand out to Kirishima while continuing to profusely apologize.
“I’m sorry! I wasn’t paying attention at all! It’s my first day and I’m so nervous! I still can’t believe I was able to get this part, let alone such an important part. It’s so crazy and I-“
Before the man blew a fuse, Kirishima laughed while accepting the hand offered to him. “It’s okay dude! It’s my first day too, I get it. I’m sorry too.” He pulls himself to his feet to face his new friend properly. Kirishima smiled before adjusting his grip on the man's hand to shake it.
“I’m Kirishima Eijirou. Nice to meet you, dude!”
The man blinked a couple of times before laughing quietly to himself. He gives Kirishima’s hand a firm shake.
“Midoriya Izuku. Nice to meet you too!”
Kirishima widened his eyes slightly before a big grin formed on his face. “Whoa, you’re the Midoriya? That’ll be on UA High School?” Midoriya’s smile somehow gets brighter. “Oh, yes! I still can’t believe I scored this part!” He nervously laughed before releasing Kirishima’s grip.
“That’s great, Midoriya! I happen to be on it too!” Kirishima snaps his hands to his hips while Midoriya gasps then claps his hands together. “You’re in it too? That’s so cool! I thought Kirishima sounded familiar!” Now knowing they’re both in the same film, the two begin walking in the same direction while chatting diligently.
“Sweet! Looks like we’ll be seeing more of each other then!” Kirishima sighed, some of his nerves leaving him after walking with someone. Midoriya laughed while he pushed a door open, holding it long enough for Kirishima to walk on through.
The two click together instantly. The chatter never stops till they eventually reach the set. When Kirishima opened the door for him and Midoriya, their eyes widened seeing all of the props and equipment. Multiple people run towards them with smiles on their faces once realizing new people arrived.
“Hey! Welcome to UA High School’s set! We’ll be fellow coworkers from now on!” A girl with brown bob cut hair greeted them, balancing herself on one foot as she flashed a wide smile. Many people behind her nod earnestly. The girl stuck out her hand to Kirishima. “Hi! I’m Uraraka Ochako! Can’t wait to get to know you guys!”
Kirishima shook her hand properly before she went onto Midoriya. His eyes widen slightly before turning into a blushing mess. “Ah, so you’ll be my love, love int-“
Kirishima swung his arm around Midoriya’s neck to save him from embarrassment. “Hi, Uraraka, I’m Kirishima Eijirou! This here is Midoriya! We’re excited to work with you!”
Uraraka’s grin gets bigger, happy to put names to faces now. She claps her hands with Midoriya’s. “I guess we’ll be seeing each other lots!” She laughs loudly while a few people behind her do as well.
After Midoriya gets over his embarrassment, Kirishima blends in with the group quickly. He’s always been a people person, but this group of people feels different. He quickly learns names, like Ashido, who he knows will have to spend hours getting pink paint all over her body, like Kaminari, who Kirishima knows he’ll probably be the closest with, seeing as their characters are in quite a bit of scenes together. Then there’s Sero, who seems very relaxed and chilled, Kirishima knows he’ll get along with everyone.
“Oi, Deku.”
The chatter at the huge group quiets down slightly as another man approaches. He has a fit build, with pale blonde hair and sharp crimson red eyes like Kirishima himself. He’s wearing a black t-shirt with black sweats, staring at none other than Midoriya himself. Kirishima’s surprised he didn’t blurt out anything embarrassing, seeing as he thinks this is the most attractive man he’s ever met.
Midoriya sighed before excusing himself from Iida, Uraraka, and Todoroki’s conversation. “We haven’t even begun filming yet but you already want to call me what your character calls me in the script?” Midoriya whines, walking over to the man slowly. The man glares, crossing his arms diligently.
“I’m getting into character, dipshit.” He growls, refusing to let go of eye contact. Midoriya twitches and silently curses to himself, feeling annoyed. “You’re already so much like your character, Ka-“
Midoriya cuts himself off, blinking once he realizes most of the group is watching the scene in front of them. He slaps the other man on the shoulder, causing him to push Midoriya back in retaliation.
“I’m sorry, he should introduce himself.” Midoriya blows a raspberry at the taller man. He glares in return before turning to face the blank stares in front of him.
“Bakugou Katsuki. Don’t forget it.”
It’s with this moment, that Kirishima realizes he is utterly screwed, as this is the Bakugou he’ll be filming most of his scenes with.
//
Kirishima would like to admit that he believes he and Bakugou are getting closer after filming a couple of scenes together.
Kirishima quickly figures out that Bakugou is a lot like his character, but he doesn’t mind, not one bit. Kirishima would like to say he thinks he figured Bakugou out, on and offset.
He figures out Bakugou has a thing going on where he acts like he doesn’t care, but truly does deep down. That most of the time, Bakugou is all talk, no bite, prompting for Kirishima to not take any of his insults to heart.
Kirishima figures out that Bakugou is very closed off, and doesn’t like to reveal much about himself as ‘this will all be fucking over in a couple of months anyway and we won’t see each other again.’ Kirishima knows Bakugou doesn’t mean that, but he acts like he does.
Kirishima isn’t the only one who feels he’s gotten closer to his small celebrity crush. Midoriya, who revealed he and Bakugou happen to be childhood friends like in the script, mentioned to Uraraka that he’s never seen Bakugou get this close with anyone. Kirishima almost couldn’t believe it when Ashido told him, which she learned from a girl's night out.
It was hard at first, convincing Bakugou to come to hang out with other coworkers after a good day working on set. For weeks, it was the usual, “Fuck no,” but after a while, it ended up turning into, “Someone needs to babysit you fucks.”
Sometimes, Kirishima wishes he can see through Bakugou’s eyes. It’s difficult to tell when they hang out if Bakugou is there for a certain reason, or if he genuinely wants to enjoy himself. Kirishima thinks it’s the latter.
Kaminari points out once during a hangout after Bakugou leaves that Bakugou’s eyes seem to soften when Kirishima lets out a laugh. “He’s here for you.”
Yeah, Kirishima would really like to admit that he and Bakugou grew closer during the production of the movie.
//
“Isn’t that what it means to be number one? To be the best, I’ll have to be stronger than All Might. It’s only a matter of time.”
Bakugou smirks. Walking down the street, the sun setting behind them, Kirishima turns his head towards a now glaring Bakugou and smiles widely, a small blush on the tip of his ears. “You got it, dude!”
Bakugou turns his gaze towards Kirishima, before-
“Cut!”
People suddenly rush towards the street they were walking down, adjusting and fixing props that were placed. Chatter rose quickly, removing the soft and relaxing atmosphere Kirishima and Bakugou created for their scene.
The two looked each other up and down before both blush very lightly and awkwardly walked away in opposite directions.
When Kaminari walks by Kirishima, all he hears is the soft and quiet mutter of repeated, “oh my god.”
Kaminari catches onto his arm before he can go far. He pulls him close to whisper in his ear. “Eh, Kirishima! What’s this small blush on your cheek!” Kaminari teases, using his unoccupied arm to poke Kirishima’s cheek. The redhead clenches his teeth before pushing away a now laughing Kaminari.
“Dude, it’s nothing, it’s all for the movie.” Kirishima sighed, crossing his arms and shifting his gaze. He watches Bakugou chat with Uraraka and Todoroki from afar, a blank stare on the man's face. Kirishima sighs again, causing Kaminari to groan out loudly.
“Stop sighing like you’re watching your boyfriend get swooned off his feet by someone else. He literally looks so uninterested in what Todoroki is saying.” Hearing this, Kirishima gasps and brings his hand to his chest. “He is not my boyfriend-“
“This whole movie says otherwise!”
“It’s called acting, Kaminari!”
The two continue to bicker, both getting louder by the second. Eyes slowly gaze over to the pair to watch the ordeal happen. Eventually, the whole set is quiet as they listen to the two yelled “liar” back and forth. It was when a yell from the makeup stands made them freeze in their tracks.
“Kirishima Eijirou and Kaminari Denki! If I have to listen to you guys even a second longer I will snap your necks!”
Ashido has only done about an hour and a half of her paint, which is the point where she gets moody and starts snapping at those around her.
Kirishima hears a distant shout and swings his head to the sight. Bakugou has a hand hiding his mouth trying to keep in a small laugh. He makes eye contact with Kirishima momentarily, prompting for Kirishima to raise an eyebrow curiously. Bakugou drops his hand before stalking off, leaving Uraraka and Todoroki.
Kaminari leans in and whispers, “See, not an act.”
The duo gets yelled at again.
//
“Come!”
Flying through the air with wires attached and a green screen behind them, Bakugou and Kirishima clasp hands perfectly in only the first take. The camera pans over to Bakugou, who smirks up at Kirishima. “You idiot!” He says, squeezing the redhead's hand to reassure him that he’s safe.
In the next instant, Iida tells Bakugou to do something, in which Bakugou tells him to shut up when Midoriya tries to, quote on quote, ‘position their landing’. All Kirishima can focus on is how perfect his hand fits into Bakugou’s calloused hand.
“Cut!”
The wire pulls, and the four of them float in mid-air. Iida slams hard into Midoriya, causing him to let out an inhuman noise and whine slowly. Kirishima laughs loudly.
“You good, Midoriya?” Kirishima looks around to see the crew slowly start lowering all of them. Iida rubs where he slammed into Midoriya and offers him a small apologetic smile.
“Sorry! Didn’t realize I was pushing so hard till the wires got pulled.” Iida let out a sigh, causing Midoriya to laugh and wave his arm. “It’s nothing, I can take it!”
Kirishima whipped his head back to face Bakugou. Kirishima himself almost made an inhuman noise when he realized he and Bakugou never dropped their hands, they were still tightly clasped together.
Bakugou didn’t seem to notice himself, simply glaring off to the side, probably to Kaminari who was video recording the whole-
Wait.
Kirishima gave Bakugou’s hand a small squeeze to bring attention to their still clasped hands. Bakugou’s glare softens before his eyes fell on their hands, prompting for his eyes to widen slightly.
“Uh-“
Luckily for both of them, they hit the floor and unclasped hands when stage managers ran over to detach the wires from the harness they were wearing.
The moment Bakugou was free, he stomped off and didn’t look back.
Kirishima started to walk after him before stopping. He clenched his hand that was holding Bakugou’s just a couple seconds ago. The warmth relished. He could still feel the heat, the pride that Bakugou carried with him.
Unclenching his hand, he brought it forward in front of him. Kirishima released a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. Pulling his gaze up, he could still see Bakugou walking away, his heavy build still in sight. It looked like he was heading in the direction of his trailer. Kirishima has never wanted to go after someone so badly, but he knew he shouldn’t. It’s not like he-
Ah, fuck. I like him.
Kirishima looked at his hand again before blushing, now happy that his red hair was down so everyone around him couldn’t see.
Kirishima frantically looked around, hoping to see his friends anywhere. He was lucky to see the back of Kaminari’s hair enter Ashido’s trailer, so he began walking in that direction.
“That was great. I don’t think we’ll have to redo it, the scene was perfect on the first take.”
Kirishima heard Aizawa talking to the stage crew. So, never get to hold his hand again.
Kirishima burst into Ashido’s trailer a bit harder than he should’ve.
Ashido, Kaminari, and unsurprisingly Sero who was also in the trailer, flinched at the sudden noise. Their heads whipped to the direction of the door, all starting to smirk when they realized how red Kirishima’s face was.
“I like Bakugou.” Kirishima whisper yelled.
Ashido flipped a page of the magazine she was holding. “Shocking.”
Sero continued to sketch on a notebook. “Really?”
Kaminari smiled at the video that he just took on his phone. “A real surprise.”
Kirishima growled out in frustration. “Yes, it should be! I’m not supposed to like him! He’s my coworker for crying out loud. We’re getting paid to act! Acting does not equal real love—I got ahead of myself with my stupid emotions when I shouldn’t have. God, we’re a bunch of idiots in our twenties playing high schoolers. None of it is real anyway. It’s all an act. We both just want the movie to look good. We’re both just following a script. It’s so stupid that it came out to this. I told myself that it wouldn’t come to this. But look where I am now! Starting to like a coworker who only likes spicy food, will only outwardly laugh when someone embarrasses themselves, tries to act like he doesn’t care but does, gives me encouraging words when I can’t get a scene right, flicks me in the arm annoyingly to get my attention... I’m so screwed.”
Kirishima slowly begins to slide down the door to the trailer. He slumps forward and curls his legs, bringing his knees to his forehead.
He hears footsteps but refuses to look up. It’s only when his hair gets ruffled and that he hears a small giggle does he look up to see Ashido smiling brightly at him.
“Kiri, from the bottom of my heart I’m not just saying this to make you feel better. I can truly tell Mr. Grumpy Pants Bakugou is feeling the same way as you.” She says. Kirishima opens his mouth to deny before Ashido shushes him.
Even though he can’t see Sero anymore, Kirishima hears him let out a big sigh. “Dude, his eyes literally light up when you enter a room. Especially when you laugh. Go for it.”
Kaminari waves his thumb in Sero’s direction. “I know I tease you about this all the time, Kiri, but Sero and Ashido are speaking straight truth.”
Ashido brings a hand to her chin and strokes it in thought. She hums thoughtfully before snapping her fingers. “How about we do this then?
“On the day of the premiere, you have to say something about your feelings.”
If Kirishima was drinking something, he definitely would’ve spat it all out.
“What? I can’t do that!” Kirishima yells, pulling at his hair. Ashido groans before grabbing Kirishima’s arm and yanking him to his feet. “Yes, you will! The movie will be done, if it turns out bad it’ll be the last time you most likely will see him. But I know for a fact that he likes you too!” The girl crosses her arms and sends a small glare towards the redhead. Sero and Kaminari nod their heads eagerly in agreement. Kirishima looks away and scratches his neck, embarrassed.
“I just don’t know, ok? That’s why I’m so conflicted about this whole thing.” His voice lowers as he looks back up to catch Ashido’s eyes. Her eyes soften as she looks up, cracking a tiny smile.
“Oh, look at you Kiri. You have time to decide this all through. The premiere is still months away.” Her smile gets bigger as she softly smacks him in the bicep. “C’mon, you’re a man! You got it!”
Kirishima lets out a long sigh. He scratches his forehead and grumbles, a small blush forming on his cheeks. “Fine.”
“Oh? What was that? Sorry! Can’t hear you!” Ashido teases. She grabs Kirishima’s wrist that was hiding part of his face and pushes it to the side.
Suddenly, Kirishima raises his face high and locks eye contact with Ashido. Blush still on his face, he yells, “I said fine!”
All at once, Ashido, Kaminari, and Sero all jump into the air, arms up, and cheer. They all tackle Kirishima to the floor, falling with a grunt, laughing together like it was their last day.
Deep breaths Kirishima, it’ll be alright.
//
Arriving at the premiere, Aizawa instructed them that the main cast will all follow together in one big group. They’ll all pose together for the cameras and answer questions, but after that hurdle, they’ll split off into smaller groups, around two to three people, and do their own shoots and questions.
Of course, Kirishima and Bakugou were alone together.
“How are you not nervous, dude?” Kirishima questioned. He felt the need to constantly fan himself even though it was around nine at night. To be fair, I am wearing a black suit. Bakugou scoffed as they continued to walk to the next part of the red carpet. “Relax, idiot. It’ll be over before you fucking know it.”
Somehow, his words calmed Kirishima down a bit.
Right after reaching their destination, cameras were on them immediately. The flashing lights burned their eyes, but they kept walking until they reached their mark. Kirishima kept his eyes on the white roses on the back of Bakugou’s vest to know where he was going.
Positioning themselves, the pair was almost facing each other at an angle but had their heads turned towards the lights. Kirishima tried to keep his cool once he realized how close he was standing to Bakugou.
The two posed some more before walking along and doing the same thing. They did this a couple of times before they reached the interviewers. Bakugou answered his own questions, Kirishima answered his. It was the same, basic: How was the production? Are you excited for the film? How do you get ready to play your part?
They were just about done till Kirishima got asked a question he wasn’t prepared for.
“Seeing as you and Katsuki’s characters are close from the trailers, would you say you guys are just as close in person?”
Stunned, Kirishima stood silent for a couple of seconds. Bakugou’s eyes widen slightly as well, neither of them expecting this sort of question.
The reporter stood patient, holding their mic up to Kirishima, eager to hear an answer.
Kirishima cleared his throat. He blinked a couple of times before letting out a forced, nervous laugh. He scratched behind his neck. “Ah, I guess so? I would call this guy my best friend. He’s amazing.”
Kirishima froze slightly, realizing if he just stopped after calling Bakugou his best friend it would’ve been fine. But no, I had to go off and call him amazing!
“I see! Well, thank you both for your time!” The reporter bowed their head as they backed away.
Kirishima and Bakugou stood still for a while, neither of them knowing what to say. It wasn’t until Bakugou snapped out of it. He grabbed Kirishima’s wrist and started pulling him in the direction of the theater. “C’mon. Let’s watch the movie that we fucking killed.”
Kirishima blinked, realizing he was being pulled and that his wrist was warm suddenly. He smiled once seeing it was Bakugou, and let himself be pulled along.
Walking over, Kirishima saw Ashido. The girl furrowed her eyebrows and her face screamed, ‘remember what you need to do.’
Once they entered, the theater was packed, almost every seat in every row was filled. Luckily for them, obviously since they’re actors, they have their own seats, which are of course, right next to each other.
Kirishima goes to sit down on his aisle seat, with Bakugou to the right of him. The blonde grunts as he takes his seat and stretches his arms out. “Fucking finally. That shit always takes way too long.”
Kirishima sent him a smile. “Hey! It was fun!” He leaned on the armrest between them, wanting to get just a little bit closer to Bakugou. Bakugou hummed, leaning just an inch closer to the middle armrest. “Just want to watch the goddamn movie.”
“What, to see my beautiful acting skills?”
“No, to see your ugly ass face on the big screen.”
“I am personally offended.”
Kirishima’s grin grew bigger once he noticed a small smile peaking at Bakugou’s lips.
The lights slowly started to dim, so Kirishima leaned back in his ear. He faced the movie screen, and before it started, he heard Bakugou mutter a small, “Let’s get this over with.”
Kirishima has to admit, Midoriya really sold the whole ‘weak boy’ thing near the beginning of the film. He was greatly impressed at how quickly Midoriya was able to make himself cry.
As the movie goes along, Kirishima occasionally knocks Bakugou on the shoulder to make a comment. “Whoa, look at how cool this looks!” “Dude, when did they film this?” “I look, like, so good right here.” Kirishima was greatly shocked when Bakugou ended up pinching his lips shut so he’d be quiet.
The moment their sunset scene came on screen, Kirishima shrunk in his seat a bit, butterflies roaming his stomach. Seeing them on screen, he desperately wanted to reach over and fit his hand into Bakugou’s. The realization fully set in that he truly liked Bakugou a lot, and had to tell him how he felt.
When the rescue scene came on and Kirishima knew their characters were about to clutch hands in a minute, he suddenly didn’t know if he wanted to wait anymore.
He sat up in his chair, watching how on-screen he prepared to get propelled into the air. Kirishima slowly turned his gaze towards Bakugou to see him intensely focused on the scene in front of him. Kirishima took a deep breath, leaned on the armrest, and got as close to Bakugou as he could possibly get. He whispered,
“I like you. A lot.”
Kirishima watched Bakugou tense up. He slowly turned his head to face Kirishima. Their noses were a mere inches apart. His face was serious, determined to get what he wanted.
“Are you being serious right now?”
Kirishima has never heard Bakugou talk so low and quietly in his life. He almost looked as if he didn’t believe what was happening, that he would blink and suddenly he’d be back in bed, ready to get on with the day.
“Of course I am.”
Kirishima watched Bakugou’s eyes flicker down to his lips and he sucked in a breath. At this point in the film, Bakugou’s character was about to fly in the air. At this point, Kirishima didn’t care about anything else besides the man in front of him.
Suddenly, Bakugou roughly grabs Kirishima’s tie and somehow still silent, brings Kirishima’s lips towards his own.
Both of their eyes close reflexively. Instantly, Kirishima feels his whole body relax with Bakugou’s. Bakugou’s whole exterior is hard, demanding, but his lips were soft and comforting, completely different from his whole presentation. Kirishima felt Bakugou lift his unoccupied arm to grab Kirishima’s bicep. Kirishima melted into the touch. Bakugou surrounds all his senses, and Kirishima feels breathless and completely under his control. Eventually, Kirishima lifts a hand to lightly grab Bakugou’s chin to deepen the kiss, even if it’s just by a little bit. He angles his head to the right to fully enhance Bakugou to his touch.
Oxygen begins to become a problem, so Kirishima feels Bakugou very softly bite onto his lip as he pulls away to catch his breath. They both open their eyes very slowly, taking in their both crimson red bright eyes being nose to nose.
“Guess that answers my question.” Kirishima whispers.
Bakugou lets out a very silent breathy laugh. “Shut up.”
Bakugou pulls on the tie again and slowly kisses him again, and again, and again.
All while in the background on the big screen, Kirishima clutches Bakugou’s hand as he saves him.
Yeah, Kirishima feels as if he was the one that got saved now.
