Work Text:
“Hey, did you hear about the new kid that’s transferring to our class?”
“I did, and I heard that he’s kinda cute!”
“No way, no one is going to top Mika!”
“But I saw him from afar and his ‘bad guy’ vibes were so hot!”
“So someone finally is here to take you down from your throne, Mika?”
Mika had drowned all the gossip the girls were having around him while he read a book, but he looked up when he heard Shinoa’s voice, and was not surprised to see his best friend sporting a smirk.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Mika smiled back. “No matter who the new kid is, he’s not taking my position of the leader around here.”
“Oh, confident, aren’t you?” Shinoa’s smirk widened. “Those are a lot of words coming from a cherry boy like you.”
“I’m just waiting for the right person,” Mika replied without batting an eye. “How’s Mitsuba?”
“Oh, my beautiful tsundere is pretty good, I can’t wait for the day I have her squirming under me—”
“And that’s where you take your weird fantasies and throw them in the trash can to never think of them again,” interrupted Kimizuki, followed closely by a blushing Yoichi and Mitsuba, having heard the conversation. “For God’s sake, do you two need to talk about this so early in the morning? Can’t you have a normal conversation about homework or the newest manga like normal people?”
“Nope,” Mika and Shinoa replied at the same time.
“Where’s the fun in that? It’s not bad to talk about ways to save Japan from its ageing population,” Shinoa added. “So now that we have that clear, Micchan, do you want to—”
“No!” Mitsuba quickly screamed and got away from Shinoa’s grabby hands. “And you can’t have babies with me anyway, so stop saying that bullshit every time!”
Mika laughed while he watched Shinoa chasing Mitsuba around the classroom, aware that he should be stopping them but, where would be the fun in that? Kimizuki sighed and went to his seat, while Yoichi stayed behind to chat with Mika.
“Mika, did you hear about the new boy? What kind of person is he?”
“I haven’t met them yet.”
“What? But you’re the class representative!”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I get to meet them beforehand,” Mika chuckled.
“I thought you would go straight to the teacher’s office to befriend them.”
“More like he’d go make sure to let the new kid know that he’s the boss around here,” Shinoa interrupted, her satisfied smile and a sulking Mitsuba pouting at her desk letting Mika know that she had won their game of chase. “Mika acts all happy and pleasant, but he’s really a sadist that likes to stand on top of others.”
“Wow, I didn’t know that you had such an opinion of me,” Mika laughed at the way Yoichi was confused at the implications of what Shinoa had said.
“Takes a sadist to know another sadist.”
Mika was about to retort when the bell rang and Shinoa and Yoichi went back to their seats, not without Shinoa blowing a kiss to Mitsuba (which was promptly ignored). Mika smiled at that and let his mind wander about the new kid while he waited for their teacher. But no matter what kind of person they were, Mika was sure that he would be able to befriend him, punching him in the gut if it was necessary.
Ah, maybe Shinoa was right. He might be a sadist.
Guren opened the door to the classroom with a lazy groan and behind him walked in a boy with big, green eyes and messy black hair, his expression bored. His uniform was unkept and he didn’t even bother standing straight or looking at his new classmates, his gaze lazily staring out of the window.
Mika felt his heart jump at the sight for reasons he could not understand, but one word popped out in his mind.
Cute.
Guren introduced the new boy as Yuuichiro Amane, but the new kid was so distracted that he only seemed to break out of his zone when Guren slapped him in the back of his head, and he glared at their teacher before rolling his eyes and facing his classmates.
“Name’s Yuuichiro Amane. I don’t have any intention of being friends with you all, so do me a favour and stay away from me. That’s all.”
Now it was Guren’s turn to roll his eyes—did these two know each other beforehand?—and directed the new kid to the only empty seat in the room, which Mika realized with a start that it was the seat in front of him.
Yuuichiro sighed in annoyance and, without a single glance at Mika, sat down and immediately folded his arms on the table to nap, which somehow was adorable for Mika and he couldn’t help but giggle.
Mika was sure that his giggle had been quite low to hear, but somehow the new kid picked it up and in the blink of an eye he had turned to face Mika, a scowl in his face.
“What’s up you, you noisy goldilocks.”
Mika smiled pleasantly at him and rested his face on his palm.
“Oh, aren’t you cute, Yuu-chan? I can’t believe you already gave me a nickname!”
Yuu blushed slightly but his glare didn’t go away.
“Who are you calling ‘Yuu-chan’!?”
“My, of course you, Yuu-chan.”
Yuu narrowed his eyes and seemed to want to say something, but Guren cleared his throat, which made Yuu close his mouth and think it twice.
Or so Mika thought.
“I didn’t come here to make friends,” Yuu spat the word as if it was venom. “So don’t waste your time on me, you pretty boy.”
Yuu turned his back on Mika, so he couldn’t see the smirk that appeared on the blond’s face.
Oh, the game’s on, Yuu-chan.
