And there was only one bed

Summary:

MikaYuu Bingo Day 4: Bed Sharing

Or a fic in which Yuu hates Mika's guts but is still forced to share a bed with him, unaware that Mika might have or might have not a crush on him.

Work Text:

Yuu had always hated Mika’s guts.

Maybe it was the way he carried himself, full of confidence and cold stares. Maybe it was the way he ignored other people. Maybe it was the way he had just stared blankly at Yuu when he had tried to befriend him when he transferred to their class, and said nothing. Maybe it was the way that despite his cold and aloof personality, he still got girls confessing their undying love for him and that made Yuu mad. Or maybe it was the way that Mika never failed to give him fuzzy feelings whenever their gazes met.

And now that they were on their school trip and he had found out he would have to room with Mika, he didn’t know if he was supposed to direct his frustration at his now roommate or at his “friends,” because of course they told the teacher that Yuu was free to share the room with whoever was left and they told Yuu that everything was ready and settled for the trip.

Those traitors.

He had spent the rest of the day mad at them—why would they think it would be funny to be felt left out?—, but when he took his bags and got into his assigned room, he almost screamed his head out in horror.

In front of him was Mikaela, standing next to the only bed in the room and giving him a similar horrified stare. The situation was so ridiculous and out of a cheesy romantic drama that Yuu had no time to marvel at how Mika was able to make such an expressive face, and could only gape and point out at the bed with an accusatory finger.

Yuu humphed in his side of the bed, not believing his luck. Apparently the school had made a mistake when booking the rooms and the hotel was full, so that meant that Mika and Yuu had no other choice but share the bed.

At least the bed was so big it was enough for them to share, but now Yuu was dreading the moment that people learnt of their predicament: the girls from Mika’s fanclub would murder him and the squad would never let him live this down. He didn’t know which one he preferred if he could be allowed to choose, but knowing his luck he would be suffering both.

“I’m so dead,” Yuu couldn’t help but mutter.

“Why?”

It took a few seconds for Yuu’s brain to register that Mika was actually taking to him and he was tempted to turn his head and check over his shoulder if Mika was facing his way. But for his pride, he didn’t.

Not to mention that if Mika was facing his way, their faces would be close enough to kiss, and nope, Yuu’s brain was not going that way.

“People are going to talk about us sharing a bed now,” Yuu chose to reply. “We’re not going to live this down.”

“Why?”

“What do you mean ‘why’? It’s two guys sharing a bed! Doesn’t it bother you?”

“Not really.”

“People will call you gay.”

“I don’t mind.”

“You might not mind, but I do,” muttered Yuu, mind racing to memories of his biological parents vowing to kill all the gays.

And maybe there was something in his voice that made Mika go silent, and Yuu closed his eyes trying to forget and ignore his racing heart.

Yuu remembers having a nightmare, but he doesn’t remember anything besides a lingering fear and a hand running through his hair tenderly that helped him calm him down, a soothing voice reassuring him that everything was going to be okay, the warmth of someone being there with him, and a forehead kiss that promised love.

Yuu woke up weirdly comfortable and warm. He was surrounded by a really nice smell and he felt so protected, it was strange to say the least. He thought he was at the school trip and not at home surrounded by his plushies?

Then the memories of him sharing a bed with Mika rushed to the front of his mind and he opened his eyes in panic, confirming his worst fears.

He and Mika were cuddling together.

Shit shit shit.

A part of him wanted to move and pretend that this never happened, but the other part of him was really enjoying the way that Mika had his arms around his torso. He also noticed that his arms were circling Mika’s waist as well, so that meant that he also clung to Mika while he was asleep?

Oh God, what on Earth had happened while he was sleeping?

Had he mistaken Mika for one of his plushies and force of habit had made him embrace whatever was soft? Because that was it, wasn’t it?

Yuu was so confused that he almost didn’t feel Mika’s arms tightening their hold on him and only noticed that Mika was waking up by how Mika held him closer and groaned sleepily.

“Yuu…?”

Fuck, Mika had woken up and he would realize the position they were in. Would he scream and kick Yuu off the bed, or would he freeze as Yuu did?

Yuu was at least grateful that they were the only ones in the room so no one had to know. If he had been rooming with the squad, he was sure that someone would have already taken dozens of pictures to blackmail him with later.

Because Mika wouldn’t use this to blackmail him, right?

To his surprise, Mika burrowed his face on Yuu’s hair and held him even tighter, as if not wanting to let go.

“Uh, Mika…?”

“Sleepy…” Mika muttered, his voice muffled by Yuu’s hair. The vibrations made Yuu feel a chill down his spine in a pleasant way and he made a mental note to not think about that… much.

“Mika, I think it’s time to get up…” Yuu stuttered as he felt Mika’s scent this close, noticing how he smelled really nice. He felt his heart rate go up and his face go red, and he really hoped that was only the embarrassment showing because the alternative made him scared to death of the implications.

Mika groaned once more before letting Yuu go—Yuu couldn’t tell if he was disappointed or relieved—and sat on the bed, rubbing his eyes tiredly and staring at Yuu, who was still red-faced and ready to dig a hole somewhere to hide himself in.

“You okay?”

No, he was not okay but he couldn’t have Mika know that, so he nodded quickly and ran to the bathroom, where he could, hopefully, forget about this morning.

But something told him that he would never forget as long as he lived.

Yuu spent the day in a daze, which his friends misunderstood as him being hurt for their prank. They tried to make him feel better by being considerate to the point that it hurt and giving him sweets, but he didn’t have the guts to tell them that he had more pressing things to think about.

Like how to face Mika now.

At some point he could finally find some peace when he ran to the toilet—the squad had started to become noisier and noisier by the hour—, but he almost had a heart attack when he ran into Mika, who was giving him a weird gaze—were his eyes so blue before?—that made his stomach turn weirdly.

“Are you okay?”

Yuu broke out of his stupor at Mika’s question, and tilted his head in confusion.

“What do you mean?”

Mika finished his business before replying.

“You had a nightmare last night, are you feeling okay?” Mika sounded hesitant and avoided staring at Yuu’s eyes for some reason.

“Oh, did I? I’m sorry, did I wake you up?”

“Oh, no…”

“I’m okay, I don’t even remember what it was about so don’t worry!”

“Okay…” Mika met his gaze and blushed slightly. “It’s just…”

“Did… Did I do something weird last night?”

“No! Nothing, it’s nothing.”

And with that, Mika ran out of the toilet, which left Yuu more confused than ever.

What had just happened?

Yuu plopped himself on the bed after bathing at the hot spring of the hotel, completely exhausted. It had been a tiring day, more so with the squad talking his ears off and trying to overcompensate for something he didn’t mind anymore—he was aware that they were five and staying at a hotel that only allowed two people per room, so it might have been unavoidable for someone of the squad to share the room with someone else—, and his thoughts about Mika.

Somehow, Mika didn’t seem as bad as he thought? He had looked genuinely concerned for Yuu earlier. Maybe he was just shy and awkward and all of what Yuu thought of him had been misunderstandings?

He sighed and closed his eyes, wondering if he could try spending more time with Mika to see if his initial hatred towards the blond was justified or if he had been a dick to Mika all this time—not that he had been cruel with him, but he mostly tried to avoid him like the plague so maybe it counted as something bad? He would be hurt as hell if someone avoided or ignored him for no reason, so…

He heard the door to their room open and felt someone get in. Yuu didn’t bother open his eyes or say something, he was too tired to even move. Surely Mika would understand.

However, he was taken by surprise when he felt Mika tucking him in with such a gentleness that moved Yuu’s heartstrings, because not even his friends would do that for him! He felt the bed sinking down with was most likely Mika also turning in for the night and he was ready to just go to sleep, but was puzzled by the lack of further movement from the other side of the bed.

Why wasn’t Mika lying down to sleep?

He felt fingers running through his hair, gently stroking his head, which almost made Yuu jump in the air but luckily, he could stay perfectly still, his mind buzzing with questions.

What was going on?

“Yuu-chan,” Mika whispered, almost as if he was afraid of waking Yuu up. “I really hope that the things you were saying last night in your sleep weren’t true, because you really don’t deserve such bad things happen to you. I’ve been watching you a lot and you are one of the kindest persons I’ve ever met, even going as far as to talk to me. I’m sorry I couldn’t say anything, I never know what to say. I just hope that you can forgive me for that.”

Mika’s hand on Yuu’s hair paused, and then Yuu felt Mika leaving a very gentle kiss on his forehead.

“Good night, Yuu-chan.”

And with that, Mika’s hand left Yuu’s hair, the lights on the room were turned off and Yuu could hear Mika shuffling to get comfortable. A few minutes later, all that could be heard in the room were Mika’s soft snores and Yuu’s rapid heartbeat.

What had happened?

Mika had sounded so sad and lonely when talking to him, and now Yuu felt really bad for ever thinking that he hated Mika’s guts. The guy was just shy and still…

Slowly, Yuu turned in the bed and saw that Mika had lied down facing him. His face looked peaceful, not like the cold aura he exuded at school, and the moonlight that barely illuminated the room gave his hair and skin an otherworldly glow, making Yuu realize that Mika was actually very pretty.

Tentatively, he leaned forward and softly kissed Mika’s forehead.

“Good night, Mika.”
