“It’s a beautiful night, huh?” Kiryu said, smiling peacefully as he was walking through the brightly lit streets of Kamurocho with Haruka.
“Mhm, its’s really pretty.” Haruka nodded happily.
For once there weren’t any thugs, yakuza or random guys chasing after Kiryu that were looking for a fight. He hoped that it would stay that way. He especially didn’t feel like dealing with ‘him’ today. The two of them were about to reach Theater Square when Haruka stopped. It seemed like she was thinking about something.
“Hm, what’s up?” Kiryu glanced at Haruka.
“Mr. Kiryu, can we go to the arcade, please? I heard that they have some new toys in the UFO Catchers.” Haruka asked, tugging at Kiryu’s arm while looking up at him.
Kiryu chuckled. “Alright, I guess we can stop by the arcade.”
“Yay! You’re the best, Mr. Kiryu!” Haruka gave him a quick hug before running off to the arcade.
“Hey! Haruka, wai-” By the time Kiryu called to Haruka, she was already in the arcade. Kiryu sighed to himself before walking to the arcade himself. Everything in the arcade seemed normal, the arcade games were still as noisy as usual and the arcade itself wasn’t very crowded. After looking around a bit, Kiryu found Haruka standing in front of one of the UFO Catchers. She had a focused expression as she was trying to get one of the stuffed animal toys from the Catcher. Haruka was close to getting one, but it fell from the claw of the Catcher before it could drop into the hole.
“Aw, I couldn’t get it again…” Haruka said in a disappointed tone. “Do you think you’d be able to get it for me, Mr. Kiryu? Please?” She pointed to the toy she was trying to get.
“Alright… There’s no guarantee that I’d get it, but I can give it a try.”
Haruka smiled. “Thank you, Mr. Kiryu. I knew I could count on you. I’ll give you some candy if you can do it.”
“Uh…There’s no need for that.” Kiryu stood in front of the UFO Catcher and put some money into the machine. It started up and Kiryu tried to get the claw to hover above the toy Haruka wanted. After that, Kiryu pressed the button to make the claw drop down and try to pick up the toy. The claw picked up the toy for a moment before falling out of its grip.
“Damn it… I’ll try again.” Kiryu attempted to get the two more times, but once again, he couldn’t get it. Kiryu didn’t usually have trouble winning prizes from the UFO Catcher, but today didn’t seem to be his lucky day.
“I’ll try again.” Kiryu was about to put more money into the machine until he felt someone poke him from behind. He didn’t think it was Haruka because she was standing next to him the last time he checked. So who was it then? As Kiryu turned around to see who was behind him, his mostly calm expression turned to a frown as he saw someone he didn’t want to see. It was none other than the Mad Dog of Shimano himself, Goro Majima.
“Yo, Kiryu-chan. Did ya miss me?” Majima smiled at Kiryu with a mischievous grin.
“What are you doing here, Majima-san?” Kiryu tried to hide his annoyance. It felt like everyone time Kiryu wanted to relax, Majima would show up.
“Well, ya know, I was just mindin’ my own business until I noticed how bad you are at the UFO Catcher. I thought you might need a hand gettin’ a prize for the little girl.”
“I appreciate the offer, but I don’t need help from you, Majima-san.”
“Oh, don’t be like that Kiryu-chan. I can get prizes from this thing with my good eye closed. Ya don’t even have to give me anythin’ in return.”
“…” Kiryu sighed. He didn’t really want to ask Majima for help. “No, thank yo-“
Before Kiryu could refuse, he was cut off by a curious Haruka. “Can you really do that, Mr. Majima?”
Majima nodded confidently. “Yeah, damn right. Just watch ‘n learn.”
Kiryu had no choice but to watch with Haruka as Majima walked over to the UFO Catcher and put some money into the machine. Majima then looked over to Haruka. “Which prize did ya want?”
“That one.” Haruka pointed to the stuffed animal toy she wanted.
“Alright. This should be easy…” Majima positioned the claw above the prize Haruka wanted before making the claw attempt to pick it up. To Kiryu’s surprise, the claw grabbed the toy and lifted it up without even seeming like the toy might fall. The claw then moved over to the hole before dropping and coming out of the machine’s dispenser. Majima smirked proudly as he took the prize and handed it to Haruka. “See? I told ya it was easy.”
“Thanks, Mr. Majima.” Haruka looked happy
“It was no problem.” Majima gave Haruka a thumbs up before turning to face Kiryu. “So whaddaya think, Kiryu-chan? Are ya impressed by the skills of the UFO Catcher pro, Goro Majima?”
“…It’s not bad, I guess.” Kiryu was actually impressed by how easily Majima got the prize out of the machine, but praising him would just make Kiryu feel more embarrassed about his own failure. He thought now would be a good time to leave. “…We’re done here now right, Haruka?”
“Hm…Okay.” Haruka nodded.
“Okay, let’s go. Thanks for getting a prize for Haruka, Majima-san. We’re leaving no-.” Kiryu and Haruka were about to walk out the arcade before Majima stopped them.
“Wait just a moment, Kiryu-chan. Aren’t ya gonna repay me for my kindness? Now that’s just cruel, Kiryu-chan.” Majima said in a whining tone.
“Huh? I thought you didn’t want anything in return.” Kiryu frowned.
“Well…Y’know, I change my mind.”
Kiryu sighed. He knew he would just have to play along, otherwise Majima wouldn’t leave him alone. “Fine…What do you want then? It better not be something ridiculous or I’m leaving.”
“Hm…How about…” Majima thought for a moment. “A kiss from Kiryu-chan!”
“What!? No! Can’t you think of anything else?” Kiryu wasn’t against the idea of kissing, but he didn’t want to kiss Majima of all people.
“Okay...Then ya have to give me 100,000 yen. How’s that sound?” Majima smirked.
“100, 000 yen for a UFO Catcher prize? No way! That’s just stupid. Come on, Haruka. We’re leaving.”
“I guess ya leave me no choice then…” Before Kiryu could turn away, Majima pulled Kiryu towards him and gave him a quick peck on the lips before pulling away and grinning impishly.
This sudden action took Kiryu completely off-guard. He was used to Majima doing strange things, but he wasn’t expecting that at all. Kiryu’s expression displayed visible signs of embarrassment and confusion. He didn’t know what to do other than glare at Majima.
“Majima-san…You…”
“What’s the matter, Kiryu-chan? Do ya want to give me a kiss?” Majima pouted his lips mockingly.
“No- Actually, yeah. With my fists.” Kiryu collided his fist into his other hand to represent what he was implying.
“Heh. Now that’s more like it.” Majima grinned before taking his signature tanto out of one of his jacket pockets and twirling it in his hand. “Bring it on, Kiryu-chan!”
“Oh, I will. But first I think we should take this outside.”
Majima nodded. “Yeah, good idea. Wouldn’t want to wreck this place. It’d be a pain to pay for the repairs.”
Meanwhile, Haruka was just watching everything unfold. She had already witnessed fights between Kiryu and Majima several times before, so it didn’t really worry her. Haruka followed along as Kiryu and Majima looked for a spacious area to fight outside of the arcade. After they found a spot, she stood a few metres away from them, ready to watch and cheer for Kiryu. At this stage, it was an almost normal routine for her.
Majima got into a fighting stance and beckoned to Kiryu with his empty hand. “So are ya ready, Kiryu-chan?”
“You bet.” Kiryu also got into a fighting stance.
“Then let’s do this!” Majima sprinted toward Kiryu, ready to attack.
And so, the probably 125th fight between Kiryu and Majima had begun, lasting about half an hour before a slightly bloody and bruised Majima laid on the concrete, staring up at an exhausted Kiryu. “J…Just as I thought…Y…Your strength is amazing as always….Kiryu-chan…” Majima said breathily before passing out with a satisfied smile on his face.
“Should we get him some help, Mr. Kiryu?” Haruka asked, looking down at the unconscious Majima with slight concern.
Kiryu shook his head. “No, he’ll be fine. The guys from the Majima Family will probably be here any minute to take care of him. Let’s go, Haruka.”
“Oh, okay.” Haruka nodded and walked along with Kiryu, holding onto the UFO Catcher prize that Majima had given to her.
As they were walking, Kiryu wondered why Majima had kissed him earlier. Did he just do it to get Kiryu to fight him? Or could there have been some other reason? Kiryu had known Majima for a long time, but he didn’t always understand his intentions… Not wanting to leave the questions to linger in his mind for too long, Kiryu decided to dismiss them for the time being…
