Summary
Other than Avery, he had begrudgingly come to terms with the knowledge that he was assumed dead upon suicide by almost everyone he knew. The disgusting flash of a disfigured carcass pulled up from the fire flooded his mind. Of a framed blazing accident turned into a story of someone who had burned himself like a martyr to the underworld.
Yet he stays there, half dead but alive, with a voice in his head, needles impaled deep into his vein keeping him from kicking the bucket once in a while, and like a cherry on top, people prodding with his brain.

Summary
It's the first winter after Pitch's defeat. Jack is happy, he's not alone anymore, and his memories are gradually returning. But when a treasure hunt gone wrong puts Jack and Jamie in danger, flinging them through time and space, they find themselves on an island neither of them have heard of before. Jack's first priority is to get Jamie home safe, but Berk's inhabitants - human and otherwise - are certainly not making it easy.
Knowing they will leave Berk and the Vikings behind as soon as they know how to, Jack is not going to risk the pain of growing close to any of these people (or dragons, for that matter). But Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, wearing his heart on his sleeve, doesn't seem to want to take the hint.

It was only through her that he ever found salvation. Through her touch, that he ever felt anything beyond blind, seething hatred. Through her kiss, that he ever remembered life's true sweetness. Through her strength, her patience, her grace, that he ever regained a sense of clarity and purpose. That he ever wanted to be a hero again.
But even now, long after she's led him back into the light, his past haunts him. Memories of his crimes, his reign of terror, his wanton bloodlust and cruelty... Memories of *her*, of what he thought and felt about her, of what he wanted to do with her. TO her. The obsession. The hunger. The sickness.
And now, she wants him to open up. To be honest, in bold totality. To show her what darkness still lurked within his heart. To once more become that starving predator that hunted her day and night.
How could she ask him such a thing? How could she want him to be a monster again?
Did he trust her judgment? Did he listen to her?
Did he listen to that sinister voice still calling to him, deep inside of his mind?
