Looking good, Feeling better

Summary:

“Will I ever get to know what’s in the box?” Keigo asks, raising his brow at his boyfriend, who has been carrying around a white long compacted box while they have been shopping for a tie for Endeavor’s speech tonight. The memory of Enji’s reaction when he found out Keigo didn’t own a tie was priceless. He went on a long rant on how all men need a proper suit and tie, especially heroes. It went on for so long that Keigo just asked Enji to take him suit shopping.

There’s something in Enji’s eyes when he brings up the box and pulls it further away from him, like he’d just pry it off him. Honestly, he really wants to.

Notes:

This is based on an art by @thatbitchorca on insta, give her some love, that suit really is *fine*

Work Text:

“Not if you keep asking.” Is all the man says and Keigo snorts but drops it, for now. Maybe it’s a gift for one of his kids? He picked it up from the first suit store they went to, it was so fancy Keigo felt like he had to pay to come in. He was about to tell Enji that he doesn’t need such a nice suit when the man started to lead them out the store, Keigo didn’t even get to try anything on… A little disappointing.

That was the last suit store they went to, now they’re just looking at ties and shoes and socks. Because apparently you need fancy socks? Who knew fancy socks existed! Keigo would complain but Enji is so focused on this and is looking at so many and deciding they wouldn’t be good enough for him. It makes him feel a little warm inside to see his brows furrowed in concentration as he puts ties against his neck only to click his tongue and move to the next.

“Can’t we just get a black tie and be over with it?” That earns him a look and he has to bite back a laugh.

“It has to be perfect.” He responds instead of scolding him and it makes the younger hero blink.

“As much as I appreciate the sentiment, why? It’s your speech, I’m just going to be there as Number two, I can just wear my hero suit.” It seems to give the man pause, an unreadable expression comes to him but his hands shake a little… It’s not like him to be nervous. So Keigo puts his hands on his and smiles at him. “If it’s that important to you I guess I won’t complain, but you know you can tell me if there’s something wrong, right?” Feeling the tremble subdue, he sighs. “Well, I’m enjoying the attention anyway, continue.”

Enji seems like he’s about to open his mouth but he looks past Keigo and takes him by the hand to see another tie. It looks… Like a tie. It’s red, almost a dead ringer for the color of his wings and when Enji puts it to his cheek, it feels soft. The approving hum from his boyfriend tells him their search is over. Keigo is told to go outside, just like with the shoes and the socks, he’s not allowed to know what any of these items cost. Mostly because Enji knows Keigo would feel bad.

“We can go back now.” Is all Enji says as he leaves the store, another bag added to the ones in his arm, because god forbid Keigo carry any of *his* things.

“I don’t have a suit still.” He reminds him, walking along with him, knowing they can’t exactly hold hands in public lest they be recognized.

“I know.” Again, no more information is offered and Hawks rolls his eyes fondly, knowing Enji is a man of few words. And he clearly has something planned.

What surprises him is that Enji drives him home. As the car stops in front of his place, they both look at each other for a little longer and Keigo feels the urge to pull the man into a kiss. A thought he’s about to act on when he hears two girls giggle outside of it. It’s nothing to do in them, they’re not even looking but it’s enough to break them both out of their reverie.

Clearing his throat, Keigo opens the door. “Right, I’ll see you tonight?“

Enji just nods and hands him everything he bought today, box included, it makes Keigo raise a brow. “I’m guessing that’s my suit?” Somehow that makes the man clear his throat, looking away, embarrassed and Keigo really wishes he could kiss him right now, but instead he just smiles and closes the door with a simple. “I’ll wear it.” With that, Enji drives off and Keigo is rushing upstairs.

First he showers, styles his hair and makes sure he looks fucking breathtaking before he goes to the box, taking the lid off he pulls it off. It makes him a little breathless to see it. Pulling the jacket out, he finds the feel of it incredibly pleasant. Textured in a way that makes him want to run his fingers over it, soft to the touch too. But that is second to the cut of it. It’s hardly worthy of being called a jacket it’s closed in the font, doesn’t have a lapel, it goes all the way to the right side of his neck, a button on the side of it, there are three buttons, going diagonally to his left hip. There are cuts to the side of it, small, subtle. Sensual but not revealing, just how he likes it. He feels horrible that he’ll need to cut the back of it. Turning it sadly only to almost drop it when he sees the pre-made long triangular cuts, perfect for his wings to fit through and Keigo almost wants to cry. It’s perfect, everything about this suit is perfect and he can’t even begin to imagine the price or the time Enji spent talking over with the designer. Hugging the jacket, he wraps his wings around it, filled with affection for the man everyone accuses of being cold.

Looking at himself in the mirror is an experience, he’s stunned, the red tie against all black, there’s a cut into the fabric to loop the tie through so only the front part of it is visible, clever. The fancy socks ended up being skin toned nylons since the pants only go above his ankles. Another nice detail he enjoys. The shoes looked like they were going to be uncomfortable but they’re honestly not that bad, especially now that he’s not wearing thick socks. He looks amazing, in his humble opinion of course. His wings do fit perfectly and the touches of color make him feel a little less like an idiot in a suit, it’s perfect to his taste and Keigo can’t wait to show it off.

Soon enough, he’s leaving the car to the auditorium. It’s an annual thing, on the day the Hero Association was formed the Number One hero gives a speech, thanking everyone for the support and yadda yadda, Keigo never really listens. But for the first time, Enji is the one giving the speech and Keigo knows he’s nervous about it. So nervous he actually caught him asking All Might for pointers. It’s good to see how far he’s come, how much he’s grown both professionally and personally.

He’s already at his table, chatting with Rumi who looks stunned that he’s wearing something every sort of professional looking and he’s shocked she found something that covers her legs. Neither of them is serious but it’s still fun to poke fun at each other, he’s glad to have her as a friend. When her smile turns into a shit-eating grin, he doesn’t even have to look to know Enji is behind him, her wiggling brows are enough. With a dramatic eye-roll at her, he looks back and hears a soft intake of breath from his boyfriend, it makes him smile.

Standing up, he does a slow turn for Enji to see the whole thing. “Do I look good?” He asks, watching Enji shift and raise his hand only to bring it back down. Seeing him swallowing and open and close his mouth, sounds dying in his throat as he’s trying to talk. Cute, so cute, his boyfriend is so cute.

“I...” He clears his throat, pressing his lips into a fine line, taking a moment to compose himself. “I’m glad I got the size right.” That makes Keigo snort, his wings spreading in his mirth. “Is it comfortable? For the wings, I mean. I wasn’t sure if I left enough room...”

The pure concern in his voice makes the feathered hero melt a little. “It’s perfect, all of it.” Again, here they are, looking at each other, Keigo dying to kiss him, to thank him for giving him such a tailored gift, pun intended. Their staring is broken by Rumi this time, who clears her throat.

“If you two would stop eating each other with your eyes the rumors wouldn’t be a problem, you know?” She grins, her cheek resting on her fist as she looks at them. Enji glares but Keigo is quick to say.

“She knows.”

“You told her?” Enji doesn’t look amused but Keigo raises his hands.

“She’s my best friend, she knew I had a crush on you since I was a kid. If she put up with me rambling about how amazing you were as a hero, it’s only fair she had to put up with my rambles of how amazing a boyfriend you are.” His tone is low, should anyone walk by they wouldn’t be able to hear.

That gives Enji pause and Keigo swears he sees some pink in the man’s cheeks as he takes a deep breath. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be so aggressive.” He looks at Rumi. “My apologies.”

That leaves her stunned and she’s left a little awkward, unsure of what to say so she just gives him the good old thumbs up and a smile.
As Keigo opens his mouth someone comes to Enji. “Mr. Endeavour? It’s time.” With a nod, Enji is gone backstage and the lights go down, all shining onto the stage, Keigo sits down and claps along when Enji comes out.

The speech is very clearly something he had help with. He can even tell a bit of Fuyumi in it and the image of him getting help from his daughter makes him chuckle. It’s good, heartfelt as he’s been trying to be, a little humorous, it got laughter from the audience and even a few tears. One would think that’s where it would end.

It seems Enji had other plans. “I wanted to address something tonight. Something many have been speculating as of late.” There’s a common silence in the room, well except the cameras going off. “About my married life. I was not the best of husbands. I was not the best of fathers either. I am on a long journey to reconnect with my children, I’d like you to not bother them about it, harassing my children isn’t something I will take lightly.” He pauses, letting everyone take that in. “As for my wife, she’s no longer my wife, we have been divorced for a year.” His eyes scan the crowd until they land on Keigo and soften if only a little. “I’d also like to confirm that the rumors are true...” Offering his hand towards his boyfriend Enji ends with. “Hawks and I are dating, and I’d ask all of you to approve of our relationship, as unlikely as it is.”

The lights hit Keigo and he’s blinded, his vision blurred through his tears and he stands up and doesn’t even run, he flies to the stage, into Enji’s arms, sobbing because, for better or worse, they no longer have to hide. There’s a moment of silence in the room everyone taking it in before it bursts into applause and cheering. It seems to shock both of them but they both end up laughing, Keigo’s tears still in full force and, when they lean their foreheads together, he finds Enji is misty-eyed as well. “I love you, I hope you don’t doubt it anymore.” Is said in a whisper that somehow overshadows the loud crowd.

There’s a loud “JUST KISS ALREADY!” That sounds very suspiciously like Rumi and they both laugh before they do kiss, holding onto each other, on a stage before all of their colleagues and the entire country.

“No more hiding.” Keigo whispers, grinning.

“No more hiding.” Enji agrees, cleaning his tears before kissing him one more time. “We should probably leave the stage though.”

“Five more minutes.”
