Summary
Iroh insists they create a new life and identity in Ba Sing Se. Zuko wants nothing more than to bide his time until his next opportunity to return home, until he realizes ‘Lee’ can get away with things Zuko never could.
Zuko dons the mantle of the Blue Spirit again only to lose his focus when the Avatar comes to the city. This time, however, his attention is drawn to the annoying Southern Tribe warrior. -

Excerpt from Chapter 11:
“You act like I don’t have to prove that I deserve to live,” Zuko said, his voice growing cold and lifeless, “you said I still have honor. You’re wrong.”
“Zuko…”
Zuko closed his eyes, his face screwed up in pain. “You shouldn’t have wasted your time with me, uncle.”
“It wasn’t time wasted,” Iroh said softly.
“It was.”
“That is not true, Zuko,” his uncle said, carefully, like he’d planned his words and was trying to make a speech, “I have never once regretted the time I’ve spent with you. You have always been worth…”
“You don’t know me as well as you think you do!”

Excerpt from Chapter 16:“The Avatar can have him,” Zuko snarled, “I don’t need him.”
“Yes, of course,” Iroh said, “what use would you have for a giant bison in this apartment? The cost alone-"
“And- and I’m,” Zuko continued, anger building in his stomach, “sick of it! All of it! Azula can have the war and this city and the Avatar if she wants!”
“Uh…”
“Let Ba Sing Se burn to the ground! I’m tired about caring about this wretched place or anything else,” Zuko’s chest heaved, “And I won’t! From this moment on I’m done with it!”
“With?” Iroh urged, shifting uncomfortably in his seat.
“Caring,” Zuko snarled.
“About?”
“Anything,” Zuko vowed, looking directly into his uncle’s eyes, “anything but you. Everything else is dead to me.”
Next Chapter… Reconciliation with Jet
__________________________
Excerpt from Chapter 24:“How could something so small stop a mighty river? If it ever was meant to try, at all?” His uncle made a noise, one that Zuko’s tired brain took awhile to recognize as a yawn. Iroh was quiet again for a long moment before continuing, in a teasing tone, “Though you must explain to me sometime how it is that is the boy who caught your attention.”
Zuko snorted. “He’s nicer than Jet,” he muttered, feeling his own yawn beginning to ache against his jaw.
Iroh chuckled again, from deep in his stomach, “He definitely is that, I-“ and then he paused, and a moment later said, “oh.”
“‘m tired, Uncle.”
“Ah, yes, well, you…” Iroh coughed. “Yes. You should sleep. Build up your strength.” And, as Zuko did feel himself beginning to fall asleep again, Iroh said in a soft voice, “Sleep well, Prince Zuko.”
