Work Text:
Kou Minamoto and Sousuke Mitsuba have been friends since their second year in middle school. The two are vastly different but yet they found a way to get along, which shocked some mainly for the fact the Mitsuba constantly makes fun of Kou for his questionable fashion sense.
Even though they constantly argue it is always a joking matter, even when it gets extremely heated the two always end up laughing.
Now in their third year in college, Kou majoring in culinary arts with a minor in baking and pastry and Sousuke majoring in photography they still make time to sit and catch up with one another every so often. Sousuke showing off some of his latest photos to him and ranting about the student galliers that he is going to be a part of.
Or Kou bringing over one of his latest creations for Sousuke to try out. Boring the poor boy with all of his technical terms and fancy ingredients when all he wanted was to eat it.
Neither will ever admit it but they both enjoy watching the other get excited over their work with their eyes lighting up and their smiles overtaking their faces.
Today the two met up at Kou’s apartment, Sousuke raving about one of his projects that his instructor praised in front of the class. Kou stopped every so often to watch his expressions the sheer joy radiating off of him in waves.
Sousuke was so excited he kept talking with his mouth full leaving his face a mess.
All Kou could do was smile thinking how adorable he was with grains of rice stuck on his face. Without thinking Kou leans over the counter to grab the grains on his cheek, then licking them off his finger after.
Glancing back up to a red faced Sousuke with his mouth gaping open like a fish out of water. As confused as he is at his reaction it was cute.
Before Kou could ask what was wrong Sousuke starts yelling at him telling him how stupid he is. Hiding his face behind his hands to hide his flaming red cheeks, Sousuke storms off to the living room to get away from Stupid Kou as he puts it.
Not understanding why he got so upset at such a small gesture, he used to do the same thing in school when they ate lunch together.
After cleaning up the kitchen Kou moves into the living room sitting on the floor in front of Sousuke, placing tea and some cookies on the table in hopes that Sousuke will forgive him and talk with him.
Kou doesn’t try to speak with him or reach out to comfort him, even though that’s what he really wants to do, he fears if he does it will make things worse. Instead he starts up his game system placing an extra controller next to Sousuke in hopes he will join.
Once he is settled on the ground next to him Sousuke finally peeks up at him. The two are so close but he notices how Kou avoided touching him so as not to make him uncomfortable making him smile.
Even after yelling at him and storming off he is still being kind and considerate of his feelings, just like he always is. Glancing at the tea and cookies he has laid out on the table reaching out for one to see they are little cameras.
Sousuke can’t stop the smile from growing on his face at how sweet the gesture was.Silently he ate his cookies watching as Kou relaxed slightly, a tiny smile forming on his face.
Just as Kou adores his smile Sousuke feels the same about his smile. A smiling Kou is the best even though he does enjoy seeing him pout from time to time.
After a handful of minutes just watching Kou he finally sits up reaching for the controller to join in the game. As he readjusts he casually places his legs next to Kou practically crushing them against his shoulder wanting to be near him. Kou doesn’t complain about him being too close instead he leans into him enjoying the nearness.
A couple rounds later Sousuke huffs in defeat after losing almost every single round. He was mumbling complaints about how ‘there’s no way stupid traffic saftey earring wearing Kou could be that good’ which made Kou laugh and offer to help him.
That just causes him to pout more stating he doesn’t need help and it’s just a stupid game anyway. Laughing Kou goes on to playing a little bit more leaving Sousuke to pout about his loses even though now he has a hint of a smile on his face.
Hoping off of the sofa to go an make more tea for the both of them Sousuke finds himself watching him thinking about how someone so stupid could be so perfect.
His cheeks begin to burn thinking about him picking the rice off of his cheeks and then eating the grains. Muttering under his breath about how stupid he is for doing that without thinking about what it could mean.
Yes he used to do that in school when they were younger but that was when he thought Kou liked Radish-senpai; now it’s different. Radish-senpai is with Amane-chan though she and Kou are still close; it isn’t romantic in the slightest.
Sousuke used to get jealous of her hanging off of him or always being around so he would pick on her. Even after he realized they were just really close friends he continued to pick on her because it was funny and her firing back insults to him was fun.
The hiss of the kettle pulled him out of the fog of thoughts and memories reminding him of his task. Carrying the fresh pot of tea back into the living room he pours himself and Kou glasses making sure to add a little honey to Kous’, knowing that’s how he likes his tea.
Warning Kou of how hot the tea is making sure he doesn’t burn his stupid tonuge by trying to drinking it too fast. He gets comfortable on the sofa making sure he is touching Kou in some way because that is the only way he will truly be comfortable.
The two drift back into their routine just lunging about and enjoying one another's company.
