Work Text:
It was February, officially almost two months since Gyeoul had told Jeong Won that she liked him. Since she had begged him to stay by her side, even if it wasn’t romantically, only for Jeongwon to surprise her by accepting and reiterating her feelings.
Gyeoul still could not believe that things had turned out this way.
Her first kiss. Her first boyfriend. Hers.
While it had been two months, between both of their incredibly busy jobs, they had not gotten much time yet to properly date. Most of their dates consisted of time spent together during some lunch breaks, and late nights at the PICU.
But none of this really mattered to Gyeoul, because she was finally with Jeong Won.
She truly liked everything about Jeong Won. The way his eyes would light up when a patient recovered, and their family came to thank him for all that he had done. The way his heart broke every time the patients were in pain. The way his eyes crinkled when he smiled, how he was loyal to his friends and loved ones, and how he would always try to do the right thing. There was so much to like about him.
But at this very moment, Gyeoul was beginning to slightly question if it really was everything.
“I mean, why can’t you say it?” whined Jeong Won as they both entered the GS conference room. It was lunch break, though with their jobs, a break never really quite meant a break. The conference room was deserted today, as other staff had raced to the cafeteria for the day’s meal special. Jeong Won and her had just eaten lunch themselves, but in the Yulje garden instead, as it was much more private and quiet.
Gyeoul was holding a choco-pie in one hand, and tucking a piece of hair behind her ear with the other. She looked at her boyfriend who was currently standing with his hands on both hips, and staring rather angrily at her. She took a bite of the choco-pie, a gift that was courtesy of him, and swallowed before answering.
“Does it really matter that much, Professor Ahn?”
Jeong Won scoffed before looking at her. “Yes, of course it does. We’ve been together for two months now!”
“Two months and three days,” corrected Gyeoul as she sat down in one of the chairs at the table, choco-pie almost completely eaten. She looked up at Jeong Won who was still standing by the other end of the table.
Jeong Won’s eyes softened at hearing this, but he shook his head. “Don’t try to pacify me here.” He walked over to the seat next to hers and sat down. From his coat pocket, he pulled out another choco-pie and handed it to her.
Gyeoul smiled at him. “Thank you,” she said, happy to accept the food. While reaching out to take it from Jeong Won’s hands, he held onto her fingers. She looked at him and noticed that he looked rather stressed. “Gyeoul-ah,” began Jeong Won, “Don’t you think that calling your boyfriend ‘Professor’ is sort of...strange?”
Gyeoul blinked twice at him. She never quite would get used to hearing him address her like that. His fingers still wrapped around hers were quite distracting as well. She tilted her head to one side, and then shook her head.
“No, I don’t. You’re still Professor Ahn, no matter what relationship we have. It’s just...normal to me.” She nodded her head in agreement at this statement of hers. Yes, it was perfectly normal.
Jeong Won sighed and extracted his fingers from her. Gyeoul clasped the choco-pie and began to open it’s package, while Jeong Won ran his fingers through his hair. With his arms crossed over his chest, he looked at Gyeoul, who was busily eating the choco-pie. “What’s wrong with oppa?” he demanded.
Gyeoul choked on her choco-pie. Coughing, she motioned for him to hand her one of the water-bottles on the conference table.
Jeong Won did so, and lightly smacked her back as she took a sip. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice a bit sheepish.
“I’m fine. I mean...” she looked at him before shaking her head. “That’s not really my thing, Professor Ahn.”
Jeong Won’s mouth fell open. “Not your thing? You do know that Ik Jun told me that you agreed to call him ‘oppa’ outside of work the other day?!”
Gyeoul shrugged at this. “He’s basically like an annoying older brother. I feel comfortable calling him that.”
Jeong Won gaped at her. “So with Ik Jun it’s fine, but with me it’s weird? I mean, I am older than you, and we are dating. It is a perfectly acceptable term of endearment.”
He looked around the room, as if he was searching for someone to agree with him, before turning back to Gyeoul who was just finishing her choco-pie. “Isn’t it’s strange if other coworkers and my girlfriend call me the same thing?”
Gyeoul reluctantly nodded at this point. Yes, that was a bit weird. Still, calling Ik Jun oppa platonically was one thing, but calling Jeong Won oppa romantically was a bit awkward to her.
“Hmm. Then, what about Jeong Won-ssi?” she asked, while looking over at him.
Jeong Won blinked twice at her before coughing and rubbing the back of his neck.
Gyeoul smiled at his actions. “Jeong Won-ssi, is that fine with you?” she asked in a slightly teasing voice.
Jeong Won tried to keep his previously annoyed demeanor, but he struggled to hide the smile on his face, and looked down at the carpet. “I mean, that’s....yeah that’s fine,” he mumbled.
Gyeoul’s cell-phone began to suddenly ring, interrupting their conversation. She looked at the screen and saw that it was Dr. Bong calling.
Gyeoul instantly answered it. “Yes?” She nodded while Dr. Bong explained about a patient that was arriving, and agreed to be there in ten minutes. After hanging up, she turned to Jeong Won who she found looking at her with a slight smile on his face.
Gyeoul felt her face heating up. “What is it?” she asked.
Jeong Won shook his head at her. “It’s nothing. You better get going.” Gyeoul nodded.
Grabbing her phone, she stood from her chair and turned to leave before pausing and turning back around to face him. Jeong Won was texting someone, but he looked up at her.
Gyeoul inhaled, before taking one step closer to his chair, so that she was directly facing him. Jeong Won leaned back in his chair to look up at her.
Quickly, before she could lose her confidence, she bent down and put both of her hands on his cheeks. Jeong Won’s eyes widened as she stared down at him, before leaning forward and lightly brushing her lips against his. Jeongwon closed his eyes, and Gyeoul felt him smile against her lips.
She pulled away and straightened up. With heated cheeks, she avoided looking at him, and quickly grabbed her things and making her way away from him. “I’ll see you later, Jeong Won-ssi!” she called over her shoulder as she ran out the door to the emergency room.
If she had stopped to look behind her back, she’d have seen Jeong Won smiling widely, his cheeks tinted with the faintest shade of pink.
