Chapter Text
The Christmas holidays has come and gone. Yulje hospital has been busier than ever. A lot of emergency patients was admitted over the holiday festivities.
After that fateful night between Jeong Won and Gyeoul, they make it a point to go on meals together, may it be short in between rounds meals or just plain egg drop sandwiches in the GS on-call room, with just the two of them or with other doctors.
They also make it a point to check on each other every now and then, especially Jeong Won on Gyeoul. May it just be a text to ask if she has eaten, or to follow up on a patient.
Speaking of which…
To: Gyeoul
Lunch?
She was at the on-call room when she received the text. She was then actually thinking of what to have for lunch.
To: Jeong Won
De…cafeteria?
To: Gyeoul
How about we eat in the cafeteria and let's take a walk in the gardens?
To: Jeong Won
Sounds good to me. I’ll see you?
To: Gyeoul
De…
They met at the cafeteria, ate their lunch, and head off to the garden to take a walk before going back to work. They were walking hand in hand chatting about their morning.
“Jeong Won-ah!” Somewhere in the garden, he heard his name being called, it was his mother. He let go of her hand suddenly. They haven’t told his mother about them. He only told her about not becoming a priest anymore. He was planning to visit her in Yangpyeong with Gyeoul to tell her about them.
“Eomma! Why are you here?” They went closer to her and greeted with a bow.
“Came here to surprise you and to give you something. Though it looks like I am the one who is surprised. Annyeong, Dr. Jang.” Mama Rosa said, bowing to Gyeoul.
“Wait you’ve met already?” Jeong Won asked.
“De…the day after my first solo surgery.” Gyeoul said shyly.
“Aissh… that’s a story for another day.” Mama Rosa said. “So anything you want to tell me?”
Both Jeong Won and Gyeoul looked down shyly.
“Isn’t it obvious yet, Eomma?” Jeong Won told her. “She’s one of the reasons I am staying in Yulje. We’re dating since Christmas.”
At that, he held her hand in his again. Gyeoul blushed at what he said.
“Omo, really? The last time we spoke you never said anything.” His eomma exclaimed.
“We were still wrapping our head around it that’s why. We haven’t told anyone yet, you’re the first.” Jeong Won explained.
“Not even your friends Jeong Won-ah? Thank you for telling me first.” Mama Rosa said happily and finally hugged him. She then turned to Gyeoul.
“Thank you for making my son happy. He’s lucky to have you.” Mama Rosa said, then hugged the younger girl lightly.
“I think I am the one who is lucky.” Gyeoul smiled in the hug.
“Aissh… eomma, you said you have something for me. What is it?” Jeong Won asked.
“Perfect timing! I know you have troubles travelling to and from the hospital especially at night. So, here…” she hands off a car key. “It’s yours. It’s parked at Basement 2 right in front of the elevator.”
“This is too much eomma. But thank you.” Jeong Won hugged her again.
“Now you don’t have to commute, and you can drive this young lady home.” Mama Rosa said looking at the blushing Gyeoul.
Suddenly, Jeong Won’s phone rang and also Gyeoul’s, indicating an emergency.
“Mianhe eomma, we have to go. We are being called at the emergency room.” He hugged his mother again and thanked her for the gift.
They both ran towards the hospital to attend to the emergency.
When they had finished their shift, they both walked to the basement 2 parking to go home.
There, they saw a new white range rover that is parked at one of the VIP spaces. On the windshield is a note, clearly from his mom.
To Jeong Won:
Thank you for making me happy. I hope you and Dr. Jang will be happy together always.
Love, Eomma
“Aissh eomma… this is too much.” Jeong Won whispered to himself.
“Wow! This is nice. My brother said it’s top of the line. I always hear it from him.” Gyeoul exclaimed.
“Yeah. So… let’s go?” He asked. She only nodded at him.
He opened the door to the passenger seat and helped her in, got her work bag and put it in the back seat.
“Well that talk went well. By the way, Song Hwa is inviting me to Sokcho this weekend. Do you want to go with me? I want to tell her about us, though I think she already had an inkling. She’s one of my good friends and I trust her.” Jeong Won asked. “If you’re not ready, that’s okay.”
“No, it’s fine. We should go. If you trust her, then I do too.” Gyeoul said smiling.
“You sure?” Jeong Won asked again.
She only nodded at him.
“Okay. Let’s get you home.” Jeong Won then drove out of the hospital to her apartment.
They were chatting amiably about anything and everything.
Gyeoul may have agreed to meet Song Hwa over the weekend, but she is still nervous, but she decided that as long as Jeong Won is by her side, she will be okay.
