Chapter Text

“Hyungie?”

Jungkook keeps his eyes shut, desperately trying to go back to sleep. He doesn’t know who came into the room but they certainly weren’t asking for him.

“Hyuuung.”

Why couldn’t his room mate get up and answer whoever was calling for him? Jungkook groans and buries his head further into the mattress. He wants to rest. Today was supposed to be a free day. They didn’t have any schedules.

Hyungieeee.”

Something starts poking at his head. At first he thinks he fell asleep with his phone again. The hyungs were going to kill him. Then he realizes that someone’s finger is doing the poking. Huh, maybe Jimin or Taehyung had come in as well to mess with him.

“Jungkook-hyung.”

Maybe he was dreaming. Whoever spoke sounds awfully near him. And he’s in his dorm. There’s no one living in their dorm that called him hyung for...obvious age-related reasons.

“Kookie-hyung.”

I’m definitely dreaming. Jungkook thinks to himself. He shifts away, trying to avoid the poking finger. Then, the body who the finger is probably attached to pounces on him.

“JUNGKOOKIE-HYUNG. WAKE. UP.”

The voice practically screeches into his ear. He bolts up, pushing the body off him with ease. Jungkook runs his finger through his bedhead, his sleep-addled mind still trying to process what was going on when the bedroom door flies open.

“Yah! What did we say about yelling in the early morning?” Jungkook stares blankly at the person at the doorway.

It’s Jimin. But not Jimin, his hyung who smiled impishly and convinced him to help prank Hoseok-hyung into thinking his studio was haunted yesterday evening. No. This Jimin looked mature. There was hardly any fat on his cheeks and his features were sharper, almost as if he was older.

“Not to yell when it’s early morning?”

Jungkook does a double take when he sees who exactly had interrupted his sleep. It’s Seokjin. The boy on his bed looks like the oldest hyung who practically raised him. But at the same time, he didn’t. This Seokjin looked young. And not even in the way that the media called him ageless whenever he put on a school uniform for a performance. This Seokjin looked really young. His frame looked awkward in the gangly, adolescent way that Jungkook remembered recently growing out of. His face was chubby with baby fat and his eyes were wide. He looked exactly like the old middle school photos the eldest hyung had shown him once.

Maybe Jungkook is still dreaming.

This Jimin that possibly only exists in Jungkook’s dreams spared him a glance before scolding teenage Seokjin in a tone he’s never heard the dancer use before.

“Apologize to your hyung, Jinnie-ah. And then go to the kitchen. Help Hoseok and Yoongi prepare breakfast.” Jungkook notes faintly that this Jimin is referring to the rappers without honorifics.

“Yes hyung.” Then Seokjin bows apologetically at Jungkook. “I’m sorry I yelled when I tried to wake you up hyung.” Jungkook just watches as the boy walks out of the room, figurative tail between his legs, only stopping to bow slightly at Jimin and mutter another apology. This dream is getting crazier and crazier. Jimin sighs in an exasperated way that he’s only ever seen the hyung line do.

“You’ll have to be patient with Jin-ah, hyung. He and the other kids are always so eager to be on time for schedules that they forget that they have to respect their hyungs.” Jungkook honestly doesn’t know how to respond so he makes a noise of acknowledgement, almost shocking himself with how deep his voice pitches when it comes out.  Jimin doesn’t look surprised.

“Manager-hyung says we have an hour before we leave. I’ll see you downstairs for breakfast, have to make sure Joonie didn’t insist on trying to help the other kids.” With that, he walks out, closing the door behind him.

Maybe Jungkook wasn’t dreaming.
