Izuku
He was fed up. Keeping all these feelings bottled up inside him wasn’t helping at all. He thought if he ignored them for long enough they would simply go away. Yet no matter how hard he tried to drown the thoughts out of his head, they always resurfaced.
He hadn’t talked to Bakugo since they graduated high school, as if distancing himself from him would squash his feeling for him. Spoiler alert: it hadn’t. In fact, the time spent away from him had just led to late nights which he spent stalking his social media accounts, looking through hero news to see where the words ‘Ground Zero’ were spelled out and searching Youtube for his interviews.
One of these late nights was the reason he was lying on his bed at 2am, his finger hovering over the ‘Kacchan<3’ contact in his phone. It was the phone number his mom had insisted he got off Kacchan back in middle school so she could invite their family round for dinner. Surely he had changed his phone number since then. Most people do after 10 or so years. He thought even just leaving a voicemail on the phone number could help him sort out his feelings and get over them. Pretend he’s actually talking to Kacchan for a couple minutes and spill his feelings. Maybe tonight he’d just test the waters, ring the number and if it went straight to voicemail he’d assume he doesn’t use the number anymore, leave a quick message and then actually empty his heart out another night when he wasn’t so tired. On the other hand, if Kacchan did pick up he would immediately hang up and then try to carry on as if nothing ever happened. Sounded like a good idea at the time.
Having made his decision, he hit call and put the phone on speaker. It immediately went to voicemail. He let a small smile of relief grace his face before starting to talk out loud to the phone.
“ Hey, it's, it's just me again and I.. I wanted to call you, but I... I guess you're busy so call me back when you get a chance.. ah..yeah, huh...
I love you, bye.”
Quickly ending the call, he took note of how his hands were shaking as he hit the button, he seemed almost as nervous as if he was actually saying that to Kacchan. Despite his nerves, he felt satisfied that he’d even just been able to say ‘I love you’. It felt good to get it out there, even if it would never be acknowledged.

It was a couple weeks later when Izuku found himself back in his contact list, searching for Kacchan’s contact number.
It had been a rough couple weeks of work as there had been a surge of villian activity in past couple months, meaning longer patrols and more paperwork. Even on his nights off he found himself doing extra research for a few new cases.
The surge of work had finally come to an end and he decided to reward himself with a night of looking through Kacchan’s new interviews and Instagram posts. He thought it would be relaxing until he found that it looked as if Kirishima and Kacchan had been hanging out together a lot more. Along with that, there were rumours flying around on all the Hero News websites that they were dating. He knew he had no right to be jealous after he had distanced himself from Kacchan for all these years, but that didn’t stop the slight pain in his chest or the soft tears that rolled down his face. His hands shaking once again, he scrambled onto his contact list and started up the call.
Once again it went straight to voicemail. Thank god, or else it would mean that his theory of his phone number being changed would’ve been disproven and Kacchan would’ve received his last message after all. He supposed that the fact he didn’t receive even so much as a message from Kacchan calling him ‘Shitty Deku’ or something of the sort was proof enough that he didn’t get it.
He took a deep breath before just letting his feelings loose and started rambling into the microphone on his phone.
“I cry in bed whenever I see you guys together. Fuck love it's all a lie. I can't sleep. I'd rather die than see that look in your eye. It sucks that I'm not your guy, but I think you’re really cool like, yea I think you’re really cool.”
Again, he left the call feeling happier than he was before hand, he figured talking about his feelings on a phone call with no one on the other end was helping him more than never talking about it at all, which was had been his preferred method for the past couple years.

It had been a better week this time around when he started rifling through his contacts again.
He had spent the week reconnecting with his ‘Dekusquad’ from UA. Up until this point he hadn’t realised how much of they had all drifted apart due to their large amount of hero work, so it felt good to see them all again. They had even agreed to meet up at least twice a month in the future.
Although he was happy to be in contact with his friends again, he felt like there was a missing piece which he soon realised was Kacchan. He found himself having to remind himself of why he couldn’t reach out to Kacchan again. He would only end up getting his feelings hurt from the rejection. Still, he couldn’t stop fantasising about how his life could be if they were together. Trying to dispel of the thoughts led him back to what he had done previously. Leaving voicemails for no one to receive. AKA pretending to talk to Kacchan.
“I packed my bags last week. Sunrise and I'm on my feet. Let's skip town and chase our dreams, 'cause this place ain't what it seems. So come home, let's synchronize. My soft lips caress your thighs. You get me so fucking high. The voices in my head collide, but I think you’re really cool.”
Ending the call, he sighed to himself. He could get used to this.

It was the next day he got it. In hindsight, he should’ve seen it coming.
He felt like such an idiot. Of course leaving these messages at 1-3am meant that Kacchan might’ve just turned off his phone so he wasn’t disturbed whilst he slept at night and that was the reason he was being sent straight to voicemail. For a supposedly smart guy, he felt like such a dumbass at that specific moment in time.
These were the thoughts that were running through Izuku’s head as his phone pinged and a notification appeared, stating that he had a message from ‘Kacchan<3’. He sat still for at least 5 minutes, mind short-curcuiting. It took him quite a while before he remembered that staring at it wouldn’t make it go away. Gathering up the limited courage he had, he opened the message.
Staring him in the face was a singular message.
I think you’re pretty cool too ;)
