Izuku felt the judgmental stares as soon as he walked into the dining hall of the Academy of the Enchanted and Unnatural. The antlers of blooming wood upon his head of green curls made him easy to spot, but it wasn’t unusual for someone with forest nymph ancestry. What was unusual was the tall male that followed close behind him, with his light blonde hair, scarlet eyes, and a crown made of two twisting horns.

“Deku. You’re early.”
From what little he can see through the doorway, Bakugou’s room is surprisingly welcoming. There are All Might posters on the wall behind him, action figures and shelves of books and a game console and a nice set of speakers. Familiar-unfamiliar, it’s not so different from his childhood room. And familiar-unfamiliar is Kacchan in the doorway: familiar eyes, familiar powerful body, but a banquet of unfamiliar details.
“Yeah. Hope that’s okay.”
Details like: he’s well endowed and leans slightly to the left, visibly half-hard in his skin-tight boxer briefs.
“You just couldn’t wait, huh?”
Bakugou is almost naked, and Izuku likes it. -

“I heard you talking the other night. This is what you want, right? You’re asexual. I’m asexual. Why bother dancing around it? We should just start dating.”
“Huh?” Izuku gasped, Katsuki’s request finally sinking in. “But, wha–”
“But, what? I think I’m being pretty clear. Do you want to date me or not?” Katsuki asked, finally gathering the confidence to look Izuku in the eye. His cheeks were a bit pink, and somehow that tiny detail calmed Izuku slightly. Maybe he really did like him, and this was just Katsuki’s weird way of admitting it without having to get all touchy-feely. And in the few seconds Izuku paused to consider it, he realized that he might like Katsuki, too.

Summary
They get back to school just a little after sunrise, sleepless and buzzing, with grass and dead leaves in their hair. Their classmates glance curiously between them but don’t ask. Katsuki and Izuku have always been a unit unto themselves, two halves of an inexplicable relationship that started way before UA and will last way after they leave. Nobody questions it. Nobody cares, probably, but Izuku indulges the thought that maybe he and his Kacchan are just a constant, an unremarkable part of the furniture that surprises nobody because the way they are is just right.
They move in together, after a while. Katsuki joins Best Jeanist and Izuku trains under Gran Torino. They still take comfort in each other every day, curl up in bed and kiss and talk about how life is going. Their live are tumultuous, after all, what with villains and training and rescuing people every week. It’s nice to have something certain. At the end of a day filled with violence and adrenaline, Izuku knows he can come home to someone concrete.
It’s perfect. Being a hero is scary and grueling and uncertain, but this part is just right.
And then, one day, a child dies in Izuku’s arms.
