Work Text:
Tae was always Jimin's best friend. He had been his best friend since they were kids. They just had a special connection that made it easy. Tae had been gone for a while, though. Traveling city after city, concert after concert. He had made a name for himself.
As much as Jimin supported him whole-heartedly, he couldn't help but miss his best friend. His heart broke more and more with each day they spent apart. Their calls were growing shorter, and the days were growing longer. He just wanted a hug.
But, today was the day Tae would come home. He just didn't know that yet. Tae had kept it a secret until now, in hopes of surprising the boy. He missed him just the same, even while touring the world in luxury beyond belief. All he really wanted was his Jimin.
Today was the day Tae would hold Jimin's hand again. It was the day he would show him how much he truly missed him. At first, being away from Jimin wasn't as hard as he thought it would be. They called every night, and Tae made sure to always text Jimin back.
But, as time went on, the distance between them grew wider and the hole in Tae's heart even more. He knew it was normal to miss your best friend, but what he was feeling was so much more than that. That was when he realised. He had fallen for the boy.
Tae had picked up a bouquet of flowers on the way to Jimin's little home. He tried to ignore the butterflies in his tummy just at the thought of seeing his best friend. He hated to admit it, but he was nervous. Ever since he realised he had fallen for Jimin, he was nervous.
He was nervous that Jimin would never see him more than what he was now. Hell, he knew Jimin deserved better. A better best friend, and an even better boyfriend. He didn't even have a chance. He sighed, and shook the thoughts out of his head as he walked up to the door.
On the other side of the door, Jimin was curled into a blanket onto his couch. He yawned, sleepily. He hadn't been sleeping well recently. Work had been stressing him out, and he had no venting place. All he could do was try to forget about it.
Taehyung shook the nervousness off as he raised his hand to knock on the door. The distance between the two closing as Jimin sighs and makes his way to the door. He had no want to get off the couch, and just wanted to shoo everyone away. Who would be there anyways?
With a swing of the door, two deer in a headlight stare at each other. Taehyung's eyes widened at the sight of the beautiful messy haired blonde in nothing but boxers and a loose tee shirt. He couldn't believe such beauty was standing right there in front of him.
Jimin, however, was completely speechless. He had no idea. "T-Taehyu-ng..?" He eyes the man, wondering if he is real. He couldn't process this. How long had it been since he had been in touching distance of him? Damn him for not warning him first. Damn him.
"Jiminie, I'm here." Tae warmly smiled, as it made its way all the way to his eyes. Jimin gasped as it finally hit him. Less than a moment later, the flowers that were sturdy in Taehyung's hands are flying to the ground and Jimin is in his arms.
His legs snake around Tae's waste, as he buries his head in the crook of Tae's neck. Peaches. That's all he could smell. He couldn't hold it in anymore. He sobbed. Tae walked to his couch, still holding onto Jimin. Jimin wasn't budging, still straddling Tae on his lap.
All Taehyung could do was rub circles into his back, as he let out a few of his own tears. "My little koala." He whispered into Jimin's ears. He pulled Jimin back to look him in the eyes and wiped the tears from his face. His beautiful tear stained eyes.
Taehyung smiled warmly when Jimin laid his head back into the crook of his neck and closed his eyes. For now, they could stay here. For now. Taehyung's heart ached when he remembered that he couldn't kiss the little cheeks that were flooded with tears. For now, this was okay.
-
Jimin falls asleep latched onto Taehyung. The two hadn't even spoken yet, but Jimin already feels at home. This was his safe place. With him. He falls asleep with tears spilling into Tae's shirt, and the natural smell of peaches soothed him. All Tae could do was cry.
Hours later, Tae is woken up by the feeling of a little hand poking into his face. Eyes fluttered open to be graced with the sight of an angel. A smile made its way to Taehyung's face, as he looked at Jimin. "Hey," he spoke, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Hey, best friend." Jimin squishes his face. "So why didn't you tell me you were coming to see me?" Curious eyes bore into Tae's skin. He only shrugged. "I dunno, I wanted to surprise you. Are you upset?" Jimin laughed at this, "No idiot, I missed you so much."
The hug was warm. It was the best hug Tae had ever had. He felt like crying again. "I'm so glad to see you again. I missed you so so much, Minnie." He said. Jimin didn't want to let go. He was afraid he would disappear again.
Tae stayed the night that night. He used to sleep in the same bed as Jimin before, this wasn't even close to the first time. For some reason, it felt so different. He knew Jimin was only his best friend, but the warmth of Jimin's skin against his made him blush.
-
The next morning was a happy one. Jimin's padded feet popped against the floor as he ran into the bedroom to wake a sleeping Tae up. "Taetae, I made you breakfast! Wake up!" Jimin jumped on the bed, laughing as loud as he could. Taehyung only groaned, in sleepiness.
"I'm up, I'm up. You heathen." Jimin smiled at the boy who was pawing at his sleepy eyes. "Come on, I made you breakfast." Jimin's pancakes were the best pancakes Tae had ever tasted. He lapped at the syrup covered pancakes as Jimin smiled in delight.
Jimin rested his head on his hands. "I know we haven't fully talked yet, but I am just happy to be here with you. Would you want to go get some dinner or something tonight? We can catch up!" Taehyung gulped at that. That sounds like a date. Was he reading too much into it?
With his mouth full of pancakes, Taehyung could only nod and smile with his eyes. But inside, he was panicking. How did he do this before? Being around Jimin was easy, but now that his heart decided to pick up it's pace at the mere sight of him, it had gotten a lot harder.
He looked over at the boy who was smiling right at him. He was so in love that he didn't even remember his own name. Butterflies once again filled his tummy, as a blush rose on his face. It felt so good to be back home.
-
"Of course, I will treat you out to dinner this evening if that's okay?" Taehyung's voice was still laced with sleep. But, sleep wasn't enough to defy the feeling of euphoria that swirled throughout his entire body when he saw Jimin's face light up at the proposal.
"I would love to go to dinner with you, Taehyung-ah," Jimin giggled, as his eyes turned into little crescent moons. Happiness radiated off of Jimin. A happiness that he hadn't felt in so long. Ever since Taehyung had left, Jimin had done nothing but miss him.
The pair grew up together, and were basically inseparable all their life. In his eyes, a life without Taehyung was a life well wasted. The second he felt Tae slipping right through his fingers was the moment he realized just how important the boy was to him.
Taehyung smiled back at the cute boy and ruffled his hair with a warm smile. But somewhere far back in the back of his mind was a mess.
𝘛𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘪𝘮, 𝘛𝘢𝘦𝘩𝘺𝘶𝘯𝘨. 𝘛𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘪𝘮.
He sighed and shook his head. How was he going to get through this night?
-
It was 30 minutes until they were planning to leave for dinner. Taehyung was looking at himself in the mirror, adjusting his light blue colored shirt. He just couldn't shake his nerves. Ever since the thought of possibly confessing to the small boy+
+had even entered his mind, he had been starstruck. Did he want to confess? yes. Did he want to risk the possibility of getting rejected and ruining the friendship they had built for years upon years? no...not really. Maybe some things were better unsaid.
But, at what cost? His thoughts shook away at the sound of thudding that was nearly approaching the guest bedroom door. What was that, he thought? He squinted his eyes, and listened closely. It wasn't until his door burst open and he went flying onto the floor that he realized it was his excited and panting best friend. Jimin laughed at him and quickly apologized under his breath but saved no time before shoving a coupon in Taehyung's face. "Look what I found!!! It is for a nearby laser tag place! Want to go??"
Taehyung had no choice but to look at the coupon that was merely an inch from his face. "I thought you wanted to go to dinner??" His stomach dropped when he saw the dejected look on his angels face. He quickly picked himself off the floor, "We can go! I would love to go!"
Jimin smiled, "No, we can go to dinner. As long as we are together, that's all that matters." Jimin sent him a sweet grin but Taehyung already knew where they were going. He ruffled the boy's hair, "Go put on some comfy clothes, I'm gonna kick your ass in laser tag."
Jimin's eyes turned into little crescents again, before he nodded and hurried out of the room. Taehyung could only laugh to himself at how cute the boy was. He would do anything just to make him happy. Laser tag would be more fun anyways. As long as his Jimin is happy, he is.
-
Taehyung was now dressed in a comfortable T-shirt, and driving down the highway. Jimin was talking nonstop about everything that had happened since Taehyung had been gone. Tae mostly only listened, until Jimin would say something along the lines of+
how much he missed him and how bad things were without him. At that, he just giggled and teased him for loving him more than he admits. But, he knew he didn't even come close to loving him as much as he loved Jimin. He hated to admit it, but Jimin was his pride and joy.
He was everything to him. It took everything inside of him to not just get down on one knee and ask him to marry him. Jimin was the love of his life, and he deserved to be treated with love and care at all times. That's all he wanted to do.
Taehyung pulled into the laser tag building, and Jimin started bouncing around with the biggest smile on his face. He was sure his face was going to break with how much he had been smiling, but he didn't even care. He was with his tae bear, why would he?
The two walked inside of the building, and were greeted by the laser beams flashing around the dark waiting room. They both awed at the pretty sight, and at the sound of the loud blasting music overhead. Taehyung unintentionally pulled Jimin closer to him.
A woman greeted them, "Are you all wanting to be in a match with a lot of players or fewer? Luckily, business isn't that bad today so you get your choice." Jimin beat Tae to the answer before he could even open his mouth, "As few people as possible please."
As few? Taehyung's mind raced to catch up. As few as possible. Alone time? No. They were against each other, why would they need alone time? Taehyung's body was on autopilot. His hands fiddling in his pocket for money for the tickets, but his mind racing.
The waiting room had a few people in it, just enough for an equal number on each team. However, Jimin and Taehyung were the eldest of the whole group, and so the younger ones had talked them into being the leaders of two teams. They took a quick liking to their hyungs.
The light dimmed, and the players began putting on their vests. The red vest fit snug around Taehyung's waist and to his surprise it wasn't as uncomfortable as he had expected it to be. On the other hand, Jimin was struggling just to just buckle his, and the second +
Taehyung had noticed it, he had scurried over to bend down and buckle it up for him, Jimin smiled at him in thanks, but one of the youngers on Tae's team only yelled out a scold towards him. "Hey! You can't help the enemy!" They only giggled more at that.
-
The lights dimmed, and the players were in huddles. they were about to go at war, and there was nothing funny about it. Okay, maybe Jimin thought it was a little funny how serious everyone looked. But, truly he was just excited to be there. He hadn't participated in something so exciting in a long while. I guess that's what happens when you lock yourself in your house for months on end. But Taehyung was back, and in a way he brought Jimin back to himself with him. Jimin's lips turned up at the thought of the boy.
"Okay, let's get it. We gotta win." Taehyung huddled in with the youngers. He had his game face on, but he was really there to have a good time. truly, he didn't even care who won, but he was determined he was gonna have a little fun while fighting for it.
After all, Jimin was his. If someone was gonna take him out, it was gonna be him. The overhead voice started counting down, and the players looked around at each other with wide smiles. The countdown was nearing its end, but the fun was just beginning :)
The horn sounded, which sent all the players in a frenzy. Taking off in all directions, Jimin slipped out of Taehyung's sight. He clutched his laser, and peeked from behind a platform. You could hear the sounds of the laser vests going off all around the room, signalling that a player had just been hit. Taehyung was going to do anything to make sure his vest was silent. He couldn't be eliminated before he got to Jimin. on the other side of the room filled with flashing lights, was Jimin perched on the edge of a platform behind a wall, peeking around the room. It was particularly silent, no one daring to speak as if it would give away their positions of hiding just to get themselves eliminated from the game. All you could hear for what felt like an eternity was the beat of the background music overhead.
Then, all of a sudden, the sound of shots frantically filled the room, players ran from all directions. It happened so quickly, before Jimin could process what was happening around him, he saw the curly headed boy running towards his direction. What was he doing?
Taehyung grabbed Jimin's hands and they ran to the other end of the room, behind the barriers. When they were finally crouched down, where no one else could see, Jimin took a quiet breath. "Taehyung what are doing? I could sho0t you! We aren't on the same teams !"
Taehyung sent a small smile, "I wanted to be the one to hit you," His eyes crinkled at the sides. Jimin shook his head and giggled to himself, but within a second Taehyung was gone, running to a barrier to shield himself from the other players. Jimin couldn't help but smile.
It was 20 minutes into the game. Almost everyone had been eliminated, only a few players remained hidden behind the barriers. The music had sped up, and Jimin and Taehyung hadn't ran into each other again. Instead the two were eliminating players left and right. Saving each other for last. But, before long it was just the two of them left. The two quietly walked around behind the barriers, with their lasers up and ready to be fired. Taehyung spotted Jimin from the platform he had found himself at but he was wary to step out.
Taehyung lowered his laser before slowly peeking out to spot Jimin. But, he wasn't where he was before? Where did he go? He frantically looked around, trying to spot the little blonde. But, he stopped moving at the sound of footsteps behind him. "Found you."
Jimin's laser was pointed right at Tae's vest. "I thought you wanted to find me. Not the other way around, TaeTae." Jimin said cockily. Taehyung slowly turned around, eyes wide as they could be. Jimin had him right where he wanted him, and he knew that.
"Drop your laser, " Jimin had ordered. Taehyung easily complied, lowering it, and raised his hands in the air. He found himself smiling right back at the boy. "You gon sho0t me, Minnie?" The only reply he got was silence. Jimin shrugged, "Maybe."
Taehyung quickly lunged forward to spin the boy around. Hands around the boy's waist, he laid his head on his shoulder. "Then do it." Jimin was frozen, his laser still held high, but Taehyung was behind him. A light blush rose upon his cheeks, "Taehyung."
"What? Can't do it?" Taehyung mocked, but didn't move. Jimin stuttered upon his words, "I... you..?" Jimin slowly turned around to see Tae with a small content smile. Facing each other, was Jimin stumbling and Taehyung happily smiling. Taehyung raised his laser towards Jimin.
Jimin looked down at the laser, before back into Tae's eyes, puzzled at what was happening. The curly headed boy grinned widely, before whispering... "Got you." And Jimin was eliminated. :)
-
Taehyung and Jimin happily walk side by side to their car. Smiles formed on both of their lips, with comfortable silence engulfing them and eating them whole. It was Taehyung who turned towards Jimin, and broke the silence. "Can I take you somewhere?"
Jimin only nodded and smiled. Tae's eyes lit up once again. It seemed he was much happier than he had been in so long. It was something about the way Jimin smiled at him so sweetly, or maybe the way his presence was enough to make him feel so safe and assured.
Only half an hour later, they found themselves at the park, laying down a blanket on the pretty green grass. Stargazing with Jimin had always been something Taehyung had aspired to do. Ever since he had left, he had found himself stargazing every night, in hopes that maybe just maybe on the other side of the world, Jimin was looking up at the same sky. Now, they would be gazing at the same sky, right next to each other. They laid next to each other, in silence. The sky was extra pretty tonight. All the stars glistened brighter than they ever had when he wasn't beside Jimin. Since they had been reunited, everything just.... felt right. Jimin sighed beside Taehyung, closing his eyes. "I missed you so much, Tae." The curly headed boy found himself closing his eyes too. "I missed you more."
“You know, I thought about you all the time." Jimin opened his eyes, to look over at Tae. Taehyung sighed, and turned onto his side, where he could see Jimin's pretty face. The prettiest sky was truly held in his eyes, and Taehyung could get lost in them all night long.
"Jimin, I have something to tell you." What was he doing? "Tell me." The words were a whisper that escaped from Jimin's lips. A pretty whisper that had sent Taehyung into a wave of happiness. He loved him so so much. He loved him so much, he didn't know how to comprehend it.
“I found myself thinking of you all the time, Min. You were always my best friend, and you still are. You mean everything to me... When I wasn't able to be around, it haunted me so so much. I was so worried that maybe you didn't want me to come back..."
"I couldn't stand being away from you. I realized.... that what I felt for you wasn't just me missing you. It was.. something else. And, I have been far too nervous to even tell you, and it is okay if you want to ignore everything I am saying afterwards..."
He breathed out, before whispering, "I love you. I love you so so much. You make me smile. With you, is where I want to be... All my songs are about you, Jimin. I love you so much." He slowly spoke, before staring Jimin into his pretty eyes. A blush overtook Jimin's cheeks.
Jimin seemed to be in thought for a moment, before he looked back at Tae. He smiled sweetly at the boy. "You don't have to say anything," Taehyung quickly interrupted but Jimin's hand softly planted onto his cheek caught him off guard. Jimin only shook his head.
"Taehyung, I had imagined this in so many ways. Somehow, this is even more beautiful than I had dreamed of." And Taehyung's lips were on his. He giggled, and pulled away to whisper, "I love you." Jimin left soft kisses on his cheeks, to his nose, forehead, and lastly on his lips one more time. "I love you so much, Taehyung. I really do." Taehyung pulled him into a hug, wrapping his arms around the smaller boy. Jimin was in euphoria, his head buried in the crook of Tae's neck. He sighed happily.
"You smell like peaches." He whispered. And Tae could only laugh. "I'm so glad I found you." And finding each other was the best thing they could have ever done. They found a safe place in each other that could never be replaced. They were each other's happy place. And peaches just happened to be Jimin's favorite smell. The smell of home.
The end :)
