in the darkness, just the two of us are enough

Summary:

“Hyung…” Hoseok brushed Yoongi's bangs out of his eyes then softly moved down until his thumb barely grazed his cheek. “You’re so beautiful.”

I’m not the beautiful one here, Yoongi wanted to say. Hoseok has always left him breathless. Even now, the room was so dark, but Hoseok’s eyes were still shining, his slightly curly locks were framing his face perfectly and the small mole above his heart-shaped lips was driving Yoongi insane.

Notes:

Work Text:

Yoongi was laying down on his bed when the power went out. He was watching youtube videos on his phone waiting for it to become late enough so he would feel sleepy. When the lights flickered for a few moments before going out completing Yoongi sighed and stood up.

He didn’t particularly like thunderstorms, mainly because of how inconvenient they can be. He can’t focus on his work with how loud they are and he can’t go out (not that he goes out much in the first place). It was good that today he decided to take a little break from the studio and he went home early.

He turned on the flashlight on his phone and walked towards the kitchen. Seokjin and Namjoon were still at the Big Hit building, working, Taehyung went home to visit his parents and Jungkook went out with his friends. Jimin and Hoseok were probably in their room.

Yoongi poured himself a glass of water and after drinking it he put the empty glass in the sink for someone else to deal with.

As he left the kitchen he noticed a figure on the couch. As he got closer he realized it was Hoseok looking at the black TV screen. He had a blanket around his body. Just as Yoongi was about to speak a flash of thunder lit up the sky and Hoseok jumped slightly. Yoongi could hear his soft whimpers from where he was standing.

“Hoseok?”

Hearing his voice, Hoseok turned around to look at Yoongi in surprise. “Hyung? I thought you went to sleep.”

Yoongi approached him and sat down on the couch. He placed his phone on the coffee table with the flashlight still on so as to light up the room a little bit. “What are you doing here? Are you okay?”

Hoseok moved his gaze towards the table. “I’m fine. I just don’t like thunderstorms.”

Yoongi furrowed his brows. “Really? Why didn’t I know about this? You seemed fine before.”

“Hyung, you know I’m jumpy. If I’m with other people it’s okay, I don’t really notice them. I was here watching TV when the power went out then it was all dark which made it worse.”

Another flash of lighting and Hoseok flinched again.

“Then why were you alone? Where’s Jimin?” Yoongi asked.

“He left a few hours ago,” Hoseok said.

“You could have come to me then.”

Hoseok wrapped the blanket tighter around himself. “I didn’t want to bother you with this. It's really dumb. I know nothing could realistically happen to me, but I still jump every time I hear thunder.”

Yoongi shook his head. “It's not dumb, Hoseok, and you could never bother me. You know that.” He opened his arms. “Come here.”

Hoseok turned to look at him for a moment before he shrugged the blanked off himself and leaned into Yoongi’s arms. He wrapped his arms around the elder’s waist and Yoongi began brushing his fingers through Hoseok’s hair knowing that is what will calm him down. He tried his best to ignore the flutter in his stomach that appeared whenever Hoseok touched him.

They stood in silence for a few minutes before Hoseok spoke.

“I’m gonna fall asleep if you keep doing that,” he murmured.

Yoongi smiled softly, his chest warming at the younger’s words. “It’s okay. Sleep.”

He shifted on the couch so he lay down comfortably. Hoseok placed his head on Yoongi’s chest and sighed. Suddenly a flash of light filled the room. Yoongi was happy to see Hoseok was relaxed and did not react. He continued to brush Hoseok’s hair with his fingers praying that the younger could not hear his racing heart.

A few moments passed before Hoseok turned to look at Yoongi.

“You’re not scared of the storm, are you?”

Yoongi shook his head, realizing why Hoseok had asked.

Hoseok shifted until he was hovering right above Yoongi and looking into his eyes. “I thought so.”

For a few moments neither of them said anything. It was a known fact that Yoongi could not maintain eye contact and it was very hard for him to allow himself to feel vulnerable, but somehow this felt natural and not invasive at all. Hoseok had that effect on him, Yoongi realized. He made him feel safe.

Hoseok raised his hand and placed it on Yoongi’s chest where his heart was still racing. He then took Yoongi’s hand and placed it on his own chest. Yoongi widened his eyes when he felt how fast the younger’s heart was beating.

Realizing he had been staring at his lips, Yoongi's gaze moved back to meet Hoseok’s. But Hoseok noticed and he began leaning in slowly as if he wanted to give Yoongi time to back away.

Yoongi really wanted to tell him to stop. There has always been this invisible line between and an unspoken rule to not cross it. What is happening here would most definitely cross that line and after that, there would be no going back. Yoongi has had a crush on Hoseok for years. That crush turned into something more very fast and he’s not blind. He knew the younger felt the same. But at the end of the day they are idols and they live in South Korea and whatever was about to happen between them could not happen.

Before he could voice any of these thoughts, Hoseok pressed his lips against Yoongi’s and every single concern left his mind. Yoongi did not waste any time and wrapped his arms around Hoseok’s neck and deepened the kiss.

Hoseok kissed just like he danced. Powerful and with lots of confidence. He was good at it, too. The only thing that was passing through Yoongi’s mind is how dumb they are because they could have been doing this for years and they didn’t.

When they pulled away Hoseok had a small smile on his face and Yoongi couldn’t help his own. Hoseok leaned in again, but this time the kiss was chaste and soft and though it, they poured every single one of the feelings they weren’t able to share until now.

Pulling away Hoseok smiled again softly and laid his head on Yoongi’s chest. The elder began brushing his fingers through Hoseok’s hair again as if it became a habit. Yoongi realized that it really might have become a habit.

His lips still felt all tingly, but at least his heart slowed down somewhat. He still couldn’t believe this had happened. This would change everything between them and Yoongi wondered if either of them were ready for it. Before he could get in his head too deep, Yoongi looked down at the other man who seemed to have fallen asleep.

“Are you asleep?” He whispered.

When there was no reply, Yoongi stretched his hand to pick up his phone from the coffee table to turn off the flashlight. When he was finished, he looked down at Hoseok’s face, his sharp jaw, the delicate curve of his nose and his peaceful expression. The rain was still falling outside but the thunder has long since stopped. Closing his eyes he whispered against the dark a few simple words.

“Hoseok, I love you.”
