A Flower By Another Name

Summary:

A car crash leaves Seokjin with a mountain of trust issues in place of his memories when people come into his life claiming him as their own. He tries to sift through the lies and figure out who he is, only to come out with more questions than answers and a thicker plot beneath the surface.

*this is bound to have some medical inaccuracies since I'm just an aspiring author with very specific questions Google can't answer in detail.

Notes:

ill try my best, but i should warn you im not experienced in writing the same plot for more than a month. i have a drifting mind with conflicting interests so i dont know how this will end or who he will end up with. i have a good idea but even then my writing my take me elsewhere. this is all for fun and i mean no disrespect to the real life people portraying my characters.

Chapter Text

Never had Nurse Jung seen such bruised beauty. Laying before him was his patient, Mr. Kim, Seokjin. He had been identifying only a few hours ago when his wallet was found. The man had traces of sedatives in his system during the severe car accident he had with two other cars. One of the drivers, DIU, had been speeding past several red lights and crashed into Mr. Kim's car so forcefully, he sandwiched Seokjin between another car.

By some miracle, Seokjin had managed to hang on until paramedics rushed him to the I.C.U. Aside from a few bruises and a sprained wrist, there were no serious injuries. Hoseok had been one of the nurses that stayed with Seokjin the entire time. After Seokjin had been cleaned of all the blood and glass, he was revealed to be incredibly good looking. All the female residents in the hospital took an immediate interest. Especially now that he was confirmed to be the second son of a CEO conglomerate.

Hoseok had been tasked with checking up on Seokjin from time to time since he was the only one able to maintain professionalism around the man. He took note of Seokjin's conditions and marked it on the chart at the end of the bed.

"Where am I?"

Hoseok looked up and saw Seokjin sit up in his bed. He held his hands above his eyes to shield them from the intense sunlight flooding the room. Hoseok pulled the curtains closed and turned on the light.

"You're in the hospital," he answered in a gentle tone. He knew he needed to be careful when relaying such heavy news. Sometimes, people in sudden accidents don't realize they were in an accident, not having enough time to understand what was happening at the time. On his first attempt during his Residency, Hoseok had a patient panic and faint.

"Why am I in the hospital?" Seokjin asked nervously when examining the gown he wore. His original clothes were torn and later cut off for examination purposes. Hoseok swiftly relocated himself next to him and attempted to calm him down.

"You're alright now, " Hoseok reassured his patient of the most important part. He placed a comforting hand on the back of Seokjin's neck and gently massaged it, "You were in a car accident. A car drove into you. You were found between two cars, but nothing too serious."

Hoseok could feel the tension leave Seokjin's shoulders.

"And the other drivers?" Seokjin asked meekly.

Hoseok took a moment to think before answering, "The driver that crashed into you is fine. He was released to the police after a check up. The other driver wasn't badly hit either."

Seokjin looked to his left and noticed the bouquet of white roses in a vase. He pulled out the card that simply read: Get Well Soon.

"Do you know who sent these?" Seokjin asked.

"I'm not sure. You can ask the janitor. I saw him leave earlier," Hoseok replied, "I don't recall you being approved for visitation, but I think your family and I might have just missed each other."

"Family?"

The word in his mouth tasted foreign with a metallic aftertaste. Seokjin looked at his nurse with a curious look that grew more concerned when he failed to picture what “family” might look like. He was forced to stop his inner questioning when a sharp pain struck his head.

The confusion and wince of pain made it obvious to Hoseok that another scan was needed to check for head trauma.

"God dammit."

Hoseok called for the doctor and had Seokjin's head examined. The results weren't disproving that Seokjin had temporary retrograde amnesia. While Seokjin was being explained to by the doctor what that meant for him, Hoseok double checked his sign-in visitation sheet. He noted that neither of his parents had visited yet. Were rich people really dicks like they were portrayed in dramas.

Hoseok and the doctor agreed it was best if Seokjin stayed in the hospital for a while longer so they could keep an eye on his progress. Meanwhile, Seokjin was advised not to strain himself trying to remember his past.

Once he was alone, Seokjin felt broken. He gingerly ran his fingers over stitches in his side. The heart monitor on his thumb and the inability to remember what he was even doing on the day of the accident consumed him. After an hour of agonizing on his thoughts, he decided to take a nap.

Within the hour, Seokjin woke up facing the open door to his room. Staring straight at him was a young man in another room across the hall. His wide eyes and blank expression were unnerving. Startled, Seokjin shot up and avoided eye contact. He paced his racing heart before leaning into the temptation to check the stranger. His eyes nervously searched for the man in a discreet manner before landing back on his unfazed and fixated gaze.

“Can I help you?” Seokjin asked him. He was sitting upright in a hospital bed. He seemed to have been here for a while judging by the fluffy comforter, dying flowers and controller in his hand.

“You have a shadow looming over you,” the man answered in a deadpan tone. Seokjin could feel goosebumps rise along his arms. Hoseok’s sudden, but welcoming tone was the only thing that eased him.

“Don't mind Jungkook. He likes to mess with people.”

The man across the hallway flashed a cheeky grin before turning to the console game his controller was connected to and resuming his game. The world was muted the moment he unpaused the game, leaving both Seokjin and Hoseok completely ignored.

Seokjin tried not to take offense, but felt embarrassed nonetheless. Hoseok performed a brief check up before closing the door and leaving Seokjin alone in his private room. With nothing to do, he considered roaming the hospital when he heard shouting out in the hallway.

"I can't let you in, sir!" A woman shouted.

"No one has to know," A man answered slightly quieter, "Besides, He’s my boyfriend."

"Only family is allowed past this point," the woman shouted before the door to Seokjin's private room swung open.

At his doorway was a wonderfully good looking man holding a fluffy blanket and red tipped yellow roses. The intruder's furrowed brow vanished instantly. His smile shined upon seeing Seokjin and closed the door behind him, right in the nurse’s face. Her footsteps could be heard fleeing down the hallway as she called for security. Meanwhile, the man made the most of his time and walked up to Seokjin. He cupped Seokjin's face and spoke softly, "I heard what happened."

Seokjin felt uncomfortable being looked down on with pity. He removed the man's hands and scooted away. The man instantly backed off and apologized, "Sorry, I got out of hand."

"Who are you?" Seokjin asked the stranger.

"I'm Jimin, your boyfriend," the man stated.

Notes:

first and second chapters are probably the shortest and most cliche in my opinion but i also love that about it so i left it as is.
