Little Match Boy

Summary:

"There must be something wrong with me. It's been so long, we've gone through so many men and women." Yoongi pulls at his hair and groans in exhaustion.

"Shh hyung, don't say that," Hoseok rubs Yoongi's shoulders. "You're perfect. There's someone out there waiting just for you."

"What?" Yoongi smiles, and Hoseok wonders if he even realises that he's subconsciously moving closer. "Like a soulmate or something? You believe in all that, Hoseokssi?"

Hoseok chuckles in reply, eyes twinkling mirthfully as he leaves Yoongi to make his own conclusions.

The one where matchmaker Hoseok catches feelings for his newest client, Yoongi.

Notes:

Helloooo~
This is the expanded version of my twitter thread, with an epilogue

I wrote this after watching Indian Matchmaking on Netflix. As an Indian myself, I found the show to be literal garbage lol. I don't recommend, fam. But it got me thinking about what would happen if the matchmaker were to fall in love with their client.
And here we are!
I hope you enjoy this more than the show at least hehe

Work Text:

Min Yoongi.

Shy and introverted. Has the worst luck in relationships.

He's at the end of his rope, all but given up on love when his friends suggest Hoseok's matchmaking services to him.

100 % success rate doesn't sound half bad, he muses.

When Hoseok first meets Yoongi, he thinks, "Ah, this is gonna be so easy."

This man is handsome. Nice face, nice smile, nice body, nice hands, nice legs and crotch area— *clears throat*. Yoongi has a well paying job too, comes from a respectable family. This is gonna be a piece of cake!

But it turns out to be much harder than he'd initially thought.

See Yoongi's painfully shy. He's bad at initiating conversation, he's worse at keeping them going. They go from candidate to candidate, searching for a potential match. But in the end, it never works out.

Hoseok has never struggled so much with a client before— it's insane!

But the biggest problem lies in the fact that with others at least, he always knows what's lacking, he always knows what needs to be fixed. But with Yoongi, he's just—

Lost.

And confused.

Because he cannot find anything wrong with Yoongi.

And God does Hoseok try!

After every date that's gone wrong, Hoseok goes over and comforts Yoongi, spends time with him, listens to him, tells him that everything will be okay.

"There must be something wrong with me, Hoseok-ssi. It's been so long, we've gone through so many men and women." Yoongi pulls at his hair and groans in exhaustion.

"Shh hyung, don't say that," Hoseok pats Yoongi's shoulders comfortingly.

*********

As time goes on, things only become more difficult. Difficult for Hoseok because he's running out of options for Yoongi. He's running out of time, too. Difficult for Yoongi because he looks more and more worn down with each rejection.

"I just don't understand, hyung," Hoseok groans to his colleague, Seokjin. "I can't seem to match him up with anyone."

Seokjin continues to flip through his files, not sparing Hoseok a second glance.

"Why's that?"

"I have no clue," Hoseok whines, banging his head against the table. "He's rich, he's hot, he's a nice guy. But—" He makes a strangled noise. "But it just never works out!"

"What kind of people have you been setting him up with? What's the criteria you're using to match them?"

Hoseok frowns, raising his head and pouting. He reaches out and pulls at the loose thread of Seokjin's sleeve. "Just people whose criteria match with his," he sighs, pulling the thread out a bit slowly. "People who suit the preferences he’s listed in his profile."

"And what's that like?"

Hoseok frowns, starting to get annoyed. "Ya know, people who might be his type. Yoongi hyung's an introvert, he likes sports and music and things. I tried setting him up with people with similar interests. He comes from Daegu, so I even tried matching him with others from his home city—"

"Why don't you try someone different then?" Seokjin finally raises his head, winking playfulling at Hoseok. "Give him someone he wouldn't expect."

Hoseok blinks in confusion.

"But hyung, he specifically asked for—"

"How many matches have you said he's already had and failed?"

“Like... over a twenty," Hoseok grumbles, still unraveling the thread. He takes a moment to ponder over Seokjin's suggestion. The more he thinks about it the more appealing it seems. "Yeah, you're right. I'll give it a shot."

"Hope it works out, Hoseok-ah," Seokjin smiles. But his smile turns upside down the moment he realises that Hoseok has made a mess out of his sleeve, sprayed thread coiled up by his side.

"Why you little—!"

*********

It works.

Seokjin's advice works.

Hoseok sets Yoongi up with someone a lot different from his expectations.

Chanyeol is sweet and exuberant, smile wide and disarming as he flashes it the moment he enters the cafe. He walks towards Yoongi's table, cheeks flushed pink as he takes a seat. Hoseok sits on the table opposite them, mouth falling open as he watches the date unfold.

The two of them make quite a picture. Yoongi in all black, Chanyeol in pastels. Hoseok notices the way Yoongi's mouth stretches thin in discontent as he takes in his date.

Hoseok gulps. Maybe he shouldn't have listened to Seokjin after all. He watches with bated breath as the date unfolds. It's a little awkward to monitor Yoongi's dates like this, but Hoseok perseveres because afterwards, Yoongi will ask him what he did wrong and this is the easiest way to reassure him that there is nothing wrong with him. The match just didn't click. Hoseok has watched over him the whole time— there is absolutely nothing wrong with him.

He's perfect .

Hoseok continues to watch Yoongi and Chanyeol chatting over coffee, awkward and stiff. He rubs his forehead, ready to call up Seokjin and whine about how this was all his stupid idea.

But then, the mood shifts around.

It's a sudden change, and Hoseok is rendered speechless as he watches the way the conversation appears to pick up, Chanyeol's eyes sparkling, ears bright red, smile wide and permanent. And Yoongi—

Yoongi looks so relieved .

"How'd the date go?" Hoseok sinks into the seat opposite Yoongi once Chanyeol has left. He smirks, taking in the sheepish smile on Yoongi's face.

"Good," Yoongi's voice is low and smooth and fucking happy. "I— I didn't think it would go this well. It went great! "

"I'm glad," Hoseok says, genuinely happy for his client. His eyes twinkle when he notices that Yoongi hasn't eaten his brownie. He flutters his eyelashes obnoxiously, pouting in a way that he knows is equal parts endearing and annoying as he alternates his gaze between Yoongi and the brownie. It's probably not the most professional way to behave with his client, but Hoseok has learnt that Yoongi appreciates being treated like a friend.

"You look ridiculous," Yoongi snorts, pushing his plate towards Hoseok, who whistles in victory.

Hoseok digs in, chewing and tasting with leisure, before he looks up and sees that Yoongi has his head in his hands and is watching him with an amused expression.

"Want some, Yoongissi?" Hoseok extends his fork, only to have Yoongi chuckle softly.

"Nah," he says, eyes a little soft, a little warm. The date must have been phenomenal for Yoongi to be in such a good mood. "You just have these—" Yoongi flutters his hands, waving at Hoseok's mouth. "Your dimples pop out when you eat."

Oh.

"Yeah," Hoseok smiles, a little subdued, feeling a little uneasy under Yoongi's intense gaze. "They do."

"Hmm," Yoongi continues to smile, unaware of the way the air between them has suddenly thickened. "It's cute."

Hoseok almost chokes on chocolate.

*********

Yoongi's dates with Chanyeol go surprisingly well. (Surprising only because his previous dates had been complete disasters.) Seokjin is insufferable in the office, constantly bragging about how he is Hoseok's saving grace and how much he owes him.

But although things are looking up so much, for some reason, Hoseok feels a little uneasy .

He doesn't go to all their dates anymore, now that said dates are going well. But Yoongi does visit him occasionally, asking for advice on what to do, on where next to take Chanyeol.

"Ah, hyung—" Hoseok calls Yoongi hyung now, and Yoongi calls him Seok-ah . It's not the best way for people in a business relationship to be addressing each other, but it’s become natural for them.

"Hyung, you shouldn't ask me these things. You should make these decisions on your own. Take him where you think he'd like to go."

"Yeah," Yoongi sighs, slumping back in his seat. They're at the cafe, they always meet at the cafe, Yoongi with a cup of espresso and Hoseok with a brownie. "Yeah, I did. I did think a lot—" He groans, stirring his drinking absentmindedly before he sighs and looks into Hoseok's eyes. "It's just—"

Yoongi sighs again, closing his eyes and scratching his head before he looks up. Hoseok wants to reach over and smooth his hair. But he chooses instead to lick his spoon clean of chocolate.

Yoongi's looking at him now, eyes softer than they've ever been. It makes him a little uneasy, a little out of breath. Hoseok drops his spoon on the plate and tries to hold Yoongi's gaze. And when he talks, Yoongi knocks the remaining breath out of Hoseok's lungs.

"It's just that he reminds me of you."

*********

Hoseok notices that there's something wrong only when Yoongi drops by to tell him about his successful dates with Chanyeol and how their relationship is progressing fairly well.

And it makes Hoseok feel a little put off.

There's a bitter taste on his tongue whenever Yoongi praises Chanyeol. When Yoongi talks about how well Chanyeol compliments him. When Yoongi talks about how easy their conversations are, how easy everything is with Chanyeol.

Hoseok initially thinks that maybe he's just a little mad that Chanyeol wasn't his suggestion, but Seokjin's. Maybe that's why he's so annoyed.

But that doesn't explain the clenching of his chest when Yoongi asks him where best to have their first kiss.

It doesn't explain the effort he has to put in to pretend as though he is happy for Yoongi, he is happy that things are going well for him, he is happy that Yoongi has perhaps found his ideal partner, he is happy, he is happy, he swears he's fucking happy .

But maybe Hoseok isn't as happy as he pretends he is.

Because when he wakes up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, trying his hardest to forget his dream about Yoongi— His dream of Yoongi kissing, not Chanyeol, but himself .

If his tears are anything to go by, Hoseok isn't happy at all.

*********

It becomes harder and harder every day. It's physically painful to watch Yoongi smile because of someone else, to help Yoongi organise his dates with someone else, to listen to Yoongi talk with so much fondness about someone else— Someone who isn't Hoseok—

Fuck, it hurts .

But Hoseok realises he truly cannot do it anymore when Chanyeol visits him in person, smile sweet and kind, blissfully unaware of Hoseok's animosity towards him.

"Ah, Chanyeolssi." Hoseok forces a smile. Chanyeol isn't his client, even though he's registered under the same agency.

He's more than a little surprised that Chanyeol is here, but he forces himself to be as professional as he can be. "Can I help you with anything? Hope your dates with Yoongi hyu— Yoongi-ssi are going well?"

"They are," Chanyeol giggles softly, and Hoseok gulps as he forces down the envy that bubbles in his stomach. "I'm so happy with Yoonie." The bile rises as Hoseok's smile twitches at the nickname. Chanyeol doesn’t seem to notice though, he chuckles dopily. "Thank you for setting us up."

"Of course," Hoseok smiles. "Just doing my job, Chanyeolssi. I'm glad it's going well."

"It is," Chanyeol smiles. His cheeks are pink, and Hoseok just wants him to leave. His happiness only makes Hoseok feel worse and worse. "I was talking to Jimin-ssi just a while ago—" Hoseok takes a minute to remember that Jimin is Chanyeol's agent, and he'd literally begged the man to lend him his profiles to consider for Yoongi's case. Hoseok nods, a sudden feeling of dread coiling in his stomach. "I just talked to him about how I think it's time for me to end my contract here."

"Oh—"

"Yeah," Chanyeol giggles again, that ugly sound. "I think I found the one."

Hoseok immediately resigns from Yoongi's service and transfers him over to Seokjin.

*********

Everyday from then on, Hoseok puts in a gargantuan effort to avoid Yoongi at all costs. Not that Yoongi comes over to their office so much anyway, now that his relationship with Chanyeol is going so smoothly.

But nevertheless, he bribes a suspicious Seokjin into sharing Yoongi's schedule with him, so he can steer clear. It's a bit childish, Hoseok knows, to be avoiding his problems this way. But he truly can't help it, he was born with confrontation issues.

It's embarrassing to recall the one time he was returning to his desk from his lunch break, only to freeze in his tracks when he was faced with the sight of Yoongi exiting Seokjin's cabin.

Yoongi's eyes had blown wide in surprise. "Seok-ah!" He'd outstretched his hand, making his way over to Hoseok, long purposeful strides, soft mellow eyes.

And Hoseok had fucking panicked.

"Nice to see you again, Yoongi-ssi ," he'd all but screeched, bowing down so low he was halfway to a dogeza.

"A bit busy now. I'll catch you later!"

He'd bolted away without sparing the man another glance, refusing to acknowledge the way his face had clouded over with something a lot like sadness.

*********

"Do you have something you want to tell me, Hotteokie?"

"Ew, don't call me that," Hoseok glares at the very smug smile on Seokjin's face. "And what do you mean, I have nothing to say to you, hyung."

"Don't lie to me, sweetheart," Seokjin sighs, rolling his eyes in a way that makes Hoseok want to punch him. "I saw you flee like a panicked chicken when you saw Min Yoongi yesterday."

"'Cause I was busy," Hoseok mumbles. "Had some urgent work to do—"

"I saw you playing foosball in the lobby with Jimin barely an hour later," Seokjin smirks. "Don't lie to me, you little shit."

Hoseok glares, wishing Seokjin wasn't— Seokjin .

"Yeah, well. Whatever."

"Do you want to tell me what's going on?" Seokjin nudges, shit eating grin plastered on his face. "Wanna tell me why you suddenly transferred him over to me, even though you were getting along with him so well before?"

"It's nothing," Hoseok sighs, shifting his eyes away from Seokjin's own. He knows he's not a good liar, but he isn't ready to tell the truth yet, he isn't ready to say it out loud. Not even to himself. "I just thought he'd be better off with you. Since you were the one who suggested Chanyeolssi for him after all—"

"Would you quit that?" Seokjin grumbles. "I can see right through you."

"Hyung, what are you—"

"Are you sure you want this, Hoseok?" Seokjin's eyes suddenly harden, and he looks at Hoseok with a stern expression. "Are you fine with this?"

Hoseok pauses. He doesn't understand what Seokjin means. What is he supposed to be fine with? How much does Seokjin know?

Is Seokjin asking Hoseok if he's fine with letting Yoongi go?

Is he asking Hoseok if he's fine with running away from his feelings, without any closure?

Is he asking Hoseok if he's fine knowing that the man he is interested in has found a match?

"I'm fine."

*********

Hoseok is thankful that Seokjin doesn’t bring up Yoongi after that. In spite of his sour feelings about it all, he truly hopes that Yoongi finds the love and happiness he deserves. He hopes that things finally start to look out for him. He hopes that Chanyeol makes him happy. He hopes that Chanyeol gives him everything that Hoseok wishes he himself could give him had their circumstances been different.

Hoseok tries to move on. He continues with his life much the same as before. New clients, new matches to fix. He's doing great.

Until one day, by coincidence he comes across Chanyeol in the park, while walking his dog. Hoseok nearly walks into a tree when he notices that Chanyeol is with someone, one hand around his waist, the other entwined in his hair, tugging him up into a kiss.

But it's not Yoongi.

*********

"Hyung," Hoseok rushes into Seokjin's cabin first thing on Monday. . Seokjin looks up from his phone, lifting a perfectly trimmed eyebrow up in question. Hoseok pants, slamming his fist on Seokjin's desk. "Hyung, we need to talk about Yoongi!"

"We do?" Seokjin's eyes widen in surprise. "Are you done being in denial, little Seok?"

"Hyung, what the fuck, no!" Hoseok thumping his fist on the desk once again. His cheeks flush and he clears his throat to ignore the implications of Seokjin's words. "No, I— I think Chanyeol's cheating on him. No— I saw Chanyeol cheating on him—"

"Hoseok, that's absurd—"

"No, hyung," Hoseok raises his voice in agitation. "I saw him kissing another man at the park the other day. Someone who wasn't Yoongi!"

"Okay?" Seokjin's gaze is expressionless. He places his phone on the table in front of him. "So he was kissing someone. I don't see the issue here."

"Hyung, what!?" Hoseok slams both his hands on the table, making Seokjin wince and glare at him in annoyance. "Hyung, Yoongi's going to be heartbroken! How could Chanyeol do that to him?! Hyung, did they have a fight or something?" Hoseok groans, thumping against the table much to Seokjin's chagrin. "God, Yoongi's going to be fucking devastated!"

"Calm down, Hoseok," Seokjin sighs, reaching out and placing his hands over Hoseok's in a comforting action. "No one's cheating on anyone."

"What—?"

"Yoongissi and Chanyeolssi called it quits a while ago," Seokjin speaks gently. "Chanyeol's seeing someone else now."

"Huh?" Hoseok's knees wobble as he struggles to process the information thrown into his face. "What do you mean? Yoongi and Chanyeol were matched, weren't they?"

"Nah," Seokjin shakes his head, hands still massaging Hoseok's. "They broke up. They didn't match after all."

"Oh," Hoseok hisses, lungs contracting as he struggles to breath. His head spins, and he is grounded only by the warmth of Seokjin's hands on his. "So— So Yoongi's still looking for a match, even now?"

"No," Seokjin sighs. "Yoongi isn't seeing anyone at the moment."

"Oh," Hoseok gulps, suddenly hit by deja vu. "Oh no. We could— We could pool profiles from other branches, hyung. I'm sure we'll find someone to match him—"

"No, Hoseok," Seokjin interrupts, gathering Hoseok's hands and bringing them together.

"Yoongi isn't seeing anyone right now because he quit the programme." Seokjin raises his eyes to smile almost sympathetically at Hoseok. "Yoongi doesn't want to be matched anymore."

*********

"Hello?" Yoongi's voice breaks through the static of the caller tone.

Hoseok gulps, pushing down the butterflies that come to life at the sound of Yoongi's voice. "Hey, Yoongissi. It's Hoseok from the agency. How have you been?"

There's a pause that feels almost tortuously long, the silence disrupted only by the static of the network signal.

"Oh," Yoongi's voice is low and soft when he finally speaks. "Seok-ah." Hoseok exhales in a shudder.

Seok-ah.

"I'm good. I'm great! Hope you're doing well, too."

"That's good," Hoseok wonders why he sounds so breathless while speaking to Yoongi. He wonders why he feels so on edge. He wonders why he feels so apprehensive. "I'm good, too. I uh— I called to talk about your plan at our agency. Seokjin hyung told me you decided to quit?"

"Yeah," Yoongi sighs. "I did. I—"

He's suddenly interrupted by the faint sound of the door opening and a few muffled voices speaking in tandem in the background. Hoseok blinks as he tries to make sense of the situation, waiting for Yoongi to get back on the line.

There's a sound of papers rustling accompanied by the frustrated groans of someone nearby. Hoseok waits, confused and curious, until Yoongi finally returns to his call.

"Sorry, Seok-ah," Yoongi sighs. "Something's come up at work. I'll come see you at your office after work?"

Hoseok blinks in surprise. "Yeah," he croaks out. "Yeah, okay. See you."

"Okay, Seok-ah. See you. Bye."

The line goes dead, leaving Hoseok to stare straight into nothingness.

He blinks trying to come to terms with the fact that Yoongi would be coming to meet him face to face in a few hours. He pats his cheeks and huffs audibly, trying to calm himself down.

He'll get through this.

He'll be fine.

*********

"Hey," Yoongi walks in, smile soft, flashing his gums, eyes twinkling sweetly. "It's been a while."

"Hi," Hoseok curses the way his voice sounds a bit high pitched and panicked. "It has. You look good."

"So do you," Yoongi smiles appreciatively, giving Hoseok a once over that makes him want to melt to the floor. Yoongi's eyes are tender and warm and Hoseok hates the way his chest contracts, heart picking up a beat, cheeks feeling far too hot for winter.

Yoongi takes a seat opposite Hoseok, shuffling around in order to get comfortable in his seat.

"So," Yoongi hums, fingers thrumming against his handrest. "What did you want to talk about?"

"Ah," Hoseok clears his throat, fumbling to get his hands on Yoongi's files. For some reason, he finds it difficult to hold Yoongi's gaze. He finds it difficult to be relaxed. "Your plan still hasn't expired yet, Yoongissi."

Hoseok gulps when he sees the way Yoongi frowns, wondering if he’s annoyed at how Hoseok is trying to distance himself by using honorifics. He clears his throat. There’s sweat beading on his brow, in spite of the air conditioner. It’s become hotter from the moment Yoongi walked into the room.

"You still have another two months to go under your current plan. Plenty of time to find a match," Hoseok swallows the bile that rises up his throat at the thought of helping Yoongi get together with someone else, all over again. "There's really no need for you to cancel now."

"Ah," Yoongi sighs. "I'm just not interested in these people, Seok-ah. I'm sorry."

"Oh— Okay," Hoseok blinks, taking in the sudden exhaustion on Yoongi's face. He feels guilty that he has caused Yoongi to experience something so unpleasant like this. "There are many more profiles to choose from though," Hoseok scurries to find the file on his computer, releasing a soft squeal of victory before turning his screen around to show the database of candidates across the many branches. "A wide variety to choose from, hyung. I guarantee you'll find someone.”

"Seok-ah," Yoongi rubs his temples, before he sighs. "Seok-ah, I'm really not interested. Even if you have a massive list of potential matches."

"Oh—" Hoseeok swallows, detecting the anger dripping from Yoongi's voice. "Okay—"

An awkward pause settles between them. Hoseok looking down at the papers skewed across his desk, while Yoongi looks at Hoseok

"I'm sorry," Yoongi says, releasing a deep sigh that almost reverberates through the room, all the way to Hoseok. "It's not your fault, really. I just—"

Yoongi clenches his eyes shut, and shakes his head.

"It's just I— I'm not looking to pursue a relationship with just anyone. I don't want that anymore."

"Oh," Hoseok whispers, trying to make sense of what Yoongi is implying.

"Yeah," Yoongi chuckles. It's a tired sound. His shoulders are slumped and he's rubbing at his temples. "Yeah, I uh— I think I like someone."

Oh.

"You— You do?"

It hurts. It hurts more than it's supposed to. Yoongi is supposed to be just a client, so why does Hoseok hurt this way?

"Yeah," Yoongi opens his eyes and looks into Hoseok's. "I do."

Hoseok's heart breaks.

"I uh—" Hoseok clears his throat. His eyes burn with tears that he refuses to shed. "I can still help you out with them." He doesn't want to. He will not. He'll go crying back to Seokjin again. "Can still help you organise your dates and things, Yoongissi." He wants to call him hyung.

"You can?" Yoongi asks, his smile a little strained. "You can do that?"

"I can," Hoseok nods. He doesn't want to. But he can. "I want to help you, hyung. Want you to find love. Want you to find happiness. You deserve it."

Hoseok chuckles, blinking so his eyes don't sting. "You're one of my favourite clients after all. I'll make sure you get the happy ever after you deserve."

"Yeah?" Yoongi whispers. "Okay then. Yeah."

"Hmm," Hoseok says, fingers trembling as he reaches for his notepad.

"Wanna start by telling me more about this person?" Hoseok quips, clicking his tongue and flipping his page with his pen poised to start writing.

"He's uh—" Yoongi clears his throat, cheeks a little pink, very endearing. Hoseok hates him. "He's nothing like that list I made initially."

"Okay," Hoseok frowns. Another Chanyeol, then.

"Yeah," Yoongi chuckles. "He's the complete opposite of me. Cute, bubbly. A total extrovert"

"Oh," Hoseok frowns, jotting it all down, as if it's going to help him. "That's uh— that's nice."

"He's really sweet, Seok-ah," Yoongi continues. "One of the sweetest people I've ever met. So fucking kind."

"That's lovely," Hoseok mumbles.

"And pretty," Yoongi's voice goes a little lower. "Prettiest thing, I swear." Hoseok's stomach twists in a painful knot. "Pretty face. Pretty smile. Pretty lips. Pretty eyes. Pretty everything . He's—" Yoongi sighs wistfully and Hoseok makes the mistake of looking up.

"He's beautiful !" Yoongi's eyes are glazed over and he looks like he's under a spell. "Just beautiful."

"Oh," Hoseok croaks out pathetically. "Okay. You're uh— you're still being pretty vague. You gotta— I need more specific details."

Yoongi chuckles, rich and hoarse and plain sexy.

"Well," he looks up, eyes twinkling mischievously. "You kinda already know him so—"

Hoseok freezes. "What—?"

"Yeah," Yoongi shuffles in his seat, shoving his hand in his pocket nervously. "He uh— He works here."

Hoseok's eyes widen, chest thudding furiously and it all suddenly dawns on him. His eyes grow wide as he connects the dots. How could he have missed something of as much magnitude like this? He turns a shade paler, hands coming up to cover his mouth, eyes wide as saucers.

"It's—" Hoseok chokes out, barely a whisper. "Is it Seokjin hyung—?"

"No, you idiot! It's you !"

"Oh."

"Mmm."

"Me— You like me ?"

"Yeah. You. I like you ."

"Oh."

There's a pregnant silence as Hoseok and Yoongi continue to stare at each other. Hoseok looking like a deer caught in headlights, Yoongi looking more than a little anxious.

"You like me, hyung?" Hoseok breaks the silence. He blinks rapidly, forcing his tears at bay. Suddenly, he feels overwhelmed with emotion. He feels like a dam has burst inside him. "You like me ?"

"Yeah," Yoongi answers. He gulps, before he leans across Hoseok's desk, reaching for his hands. He looks up at Hoseok as if he's searching for any signs of repulsion, before he gently intertwines his fingers with Hoseok's. "Hyung likes you a lot , Seok-ah."

"Oh," Hoseok chokes out, feeling a wave of pure joy crashing over him. "Oh my God. Okay."

Yoongi chuckles, lifting Hoseok's hand to his lips and pressing soft butterfly kisses against his knuckles.

"Mmm," he nuzzles his nose into Hoseok's palm. "Do you think I make a good match?" He opens his eyes, his smile teasing.

Hoseok laughs, a wet strangled sound.

"Yeah," he chokes out, voice thick with emotion. "I think you’d make the perfect match."

*********

“Don’t be so nervous, Namjoon-ssi,” Seokjin chuckles softly, flipping through the files in his hands. His client sits awkwardly, hands clenched in his lap, right foot tapping faster than an express train. Seokjin has to bite his cheek so that he doesn’t burst into laughter. “You need to relax, sir. I promise it’s not that bad.”

“Ah, sorry,” Namjoon gulps, wiping the sweat off his forehead with shaky hands. “I’ve just— I’ve never done this before. I’m— I’m desperate, you see?”

Seokjin hums in empathy. “Don’t worry, they all are,” his voice is kind, and soothing. “I promise I’ll find you a perfect match!” He watches in satisfaction as Namjoon relaxes slightly in his seat.

“Thank— Thank you,” Namjoon stutters. He’s sweating profusely, and Seokjin is almost concerned. “I hope so, too.”

“You’re in luck, sir,” Seokin smiles, eyes twinkling as he waves his hands in a flourish. “I’ve matched even the toughest of clients, I am a matchmaking pandit!” Namjoon’s eyes widen when Seokjin suddenly bursts into cacophonous laughter, alarmed at how a man as pretty as he is has  a laugh as loud and mildly villainous.

Seokjin leans forward with his elbows on the table. “In fact,” he says as he plops his head on his hands and winks.

“I even matched the little match boy.”
