Work Text:

You were sitting on the couch in the leisure room, a novel in your hand that you had found somewhere in the depths of Vlad’s library. Being in the castle was a lot more quiet than living in Comte’s mansion. Not too many chores either. Vlad would spend most of his day in the gardens, Charles was often out and about in town and Faust would either be in the church on the hill above the castle or in his lab.

While peace and quiet was nice it could get lonely from time to time, but no place was perfect. It had been your choice to stay. Your daily life hadn’t changed too much since you got here, except that you learned to cook and bake all kinds of things with strawberries because it was Vlad’s favorite type of food. The other two didn’t really care. It was also difficult to keep Faust from drugging every damn meal from Vlad and Charles for his experiments.

A soft smile appeared on your lips as you switched pages and let out a small sigh.

Footsteps in the corridor caught your attention and a moment later Faust stepped into the room without much as a word. He moved around the couch and gently nudged your feet out of the way. You smiled at him and closed your book. “Back from the church?”

His piercing green eyes looked at you for a moment. “Obviously.”

“Do you want to get some rest? I can move to the armchair to read.” You were about to get up from your position but he placed his hand on your leg and you stopped, looking at him in question.

“I require a pillow” His face was mostly unchanged, except for a softer expression in his gaze. You blinked a few times and then realized what he meant. A quiet laugh escaped your mouth and you shifted your position a little, letting one foot slip off the couch. As soon as you offered some space to him, Faust moved and settled himself between your legs, his head resting on your chest.

“Johann…”, you gently call out to him.

He turned a little and lifted his eyes towards you. “What?”

But you were silent, just reaching for the clip which held the chain connected to his glasses and carefully removed it from his ear, taking the glasses off and placing them on the table to your side. With a quiet huff he returned to his former position, blinking slowly. To you it looked like he overworked himself again. Even a vampire needed rest now and then. You sighed and started to run your fingers through his soft, dark hair. With your free hand you took back your book and continued reading.

Silence fell between you two and eventually you noticed the deep, even breaths coming from him, eyes closed. You smiled to yourself and shook your head.

Only the ticking of the clock above the fireplace filled the room, until there were hurried foot falls nearing them with a skip in their step. Definitely Charles. Vlad walked a lot calmer, you have come to notice after a while. You turned your attention to the entrance of the room and as soon as the other vampire stepped through it you pressed an index finger to your lips, gesturing towards your chest, where Faust was sound asleep.

Charles clasped both of his hands over his mouth and moved over to sit down in front of the couch on the ground. He leaned his head against your arm, which was holding the book. You maneuvered around him to put it away eventually, letting his head rest against your side, while one of your arms was around his shoulder. With a deep sigh you noticed that Charles’ eyes were already closed as well. Apparently you were everyone’s pillow today, though you didn’t have the heart to disturb the two men. So you let your head fall slightly to the side against the backrest and decided it was nap time now.
