Island Time

Summary:

Lisa Lisa and Suzi Q’s summer honeymoon to Greece.

This is part of the JJBA summer flashbang! My partner Zoey’s amazing art here!

Work Text:

Suzi Q gently shook Lisa Lisa awake, above her with a glint in her eye. Lisa Lisa rolled over and eyed the noisily ticking clock on the bedside table.

“Want an early start, love?” smiled Lisa Lisa. Suzi Q tucked a dangling of hair behind her ear with nimble fingers and pulled at Lisa Lisa’s hand until she sat up.

“We have to see Santorini!” Suzi Q insisted. “The hotel café smells amazing, if that will get you up.”

Suzi Q flung the hotel room’s window open, letting the early morning’s sun’s rays fall unabated onto the stone walls. The curtains fluttered and lively conversation trickled in. Lisa Lisa sat up, picking her hair away from where it stuck to her cheeks.

“You actually have to get dressed,” said Lisa Lisa, observing Suzi Q’s tiny sleep shorts and top. “And then we’ll see the café.”

Suzi Q bounded into the connecting bathroom and Lisa Lisa heard the sink flip on. She coaxed herself away from the covers and began picking through the dresser.

Suzi Q hadn’t worked for Lisa Lisa for years, the older woman insisting that she shouldn’t hold a salary over their relationship. Suzi Q had full access to Lisa Lisa’s finances, and of course the other woman liked to spoil her. After finally, finally, getting the question out between them, they were spending their honeymoon touring Greece. Lisa Lisa twisted the ring around her finger fondly. Finally, she selected a pair of high-waisted pants to pair with a dark blouse. Suzi Q reappeared in the doorway, twirling in her fluttering sundress. She had plucked their drying bathing suits from the bathroom and stuffed them in her bag before they stepped into the hallway.

Lisa Lisa finally felt awake when she received a small cup of coffee poured from a brass ladle. She savored the strong, traditional coffee as Suzi Q picked at her flaky pastry impatiently. Once Lisa Lisa finished the dregs in the cup, Suzi Q whisked her into the day’s plans. They bounded to the docks and boarded a boat with sails that reached high onto their masts. At this early in the morning, only a few older couples joined them on the tour. Before Lisa Lisa could lament her transition to the early bird specials, she followed Suzi Q to the front of the boat as they set sail.

The boat slowly took corners around the dark, volcanic rock of the island. Every few miles, a patch of houses appeared out of the earth. Lisa Lisa watched the tiny figures walk the streets. Eventually, the boat docked again in a town in the north of the island. A patch of red brick sat above the town—the remains of a castle. The women wound through the narrow avenues of the city before a shop filled with twinkling glass sculptures called to them.

Inside, all shapes and colors of glass twirled on wires, catching the light and throwing it back into the shop erratically. An old woman sat at the counter, slowly threading the glass art together.

Lisa Lisa noticed a pair of deep red earrings that tapered at both ends. Under the light, they turned almost purple. She held them up to Suzi Q, who almost squealed. They left the shop with a bag in hand.

They searched the town for little shops, picking up a few flowy blouses for both of them as they went. One street opened into a market, and Lisa Lisa smiled as Suzi Q gushed about the fruit there. A rocky beach indicated the end of the market, with a few tourists milling about on the dark shores.

“It’s getting a bit hot now,” observed Suzi Q. The sun had fully appeared in the sky and was making itself known in the summer weather.

Lisa Lisa located a changing room and soon the pair reappeared, Suzi Q bouncing in her tank-style suit. Lisa Lisa shivered as she stepped into the cold water, but it was a welcome relief from the quickly sweltering sun. Suzi Q chortled behind her, and Lisa Lisa turned around into a faceful of water. She sent a tiny spark of Hamon back through the water, and Suzi Q squeaked before toppling into the waves. Lisa Lisa quickly pulled her up, but Suzi Q only giggled as she pushed her wet hair out of her eyes.

Once Lisa Lisa decided that the water wouldn’t be getting any warmer, they found their way into the shade on land. Another boat was just leaving the harbor, promising a tour of the island’s wine. The couple boarded the ship and it began to move lazily around the island’s currents. Suzi Q picked the lightest, most fruity wine for their small table as a host sat them down. Both women sipped slowly as they leaned over the table and giggled at one another. Lisa Lisa brought a hand to her cheeks at one point and marveled at the way Suzi Q could make her blush with those bright eyes and round cheeks.

The heat finally broke as they sat on the ship’s deck. A gentle breeze pushed the ship back towards their hotel, but for now, Lisa Lisa clasped her fingers around Suzi Q’s on the table as they rocked silently with the boat.
