Work Text:
Jotaro Kujo was sitting in his kitchen, drinking his second cup of coffee that morning. He was tired. He barely closed his eyes for a few hours of sleep, as he had worked on wrapping the Christmas presents last night. The gifts were now sitting under the Christmas tree in the living room, neatly wrapped, waiting patiently to be opened later today.
Another person entered the scene, Jotaro’s boyfriend, Wes Bluemarine, called Weather by friends and family. His chest was bare, but at least he got the decency to put on some pants before he walked out of their shared bedroom. It’s not that he would usually complain about the sight of his tan skin, but they got Jolyne over for the holidays. Jotaro was honestly surprised that his ex-wife let their daughter stay with him and Weather for the entire winter break. It was two long weeks with her, and while he wouldn’t admit it out loud, he was glad he could spend all this time with her.
“There’s coffee on the counter.”
Weather muttered a quiet thank you, poured coffee for himself, then joined Jotaro by the table.
They sipped their drinks in comfortable silence, becoming more and more awake with every passing minute. Jotaro really liked Weather, and he really liked mornings like this too. They didn’t feel the need to fill the silence with useless small talk, they were content with just existing beside each other.
Their moment of domestic peace was interrupted by the excited cries of the six-year-old Jolyne. She dashed into the kitchen, straight towards her father, like a ball of pent-up energy, and excited joy.
“Dad, Dad! It’s finally Christmas!” she exclaimed, jumping onto her sitting father’s lap. The force of their collision knocked the cup out of his hand, but Star Platinum caught it before any drop could exit out of it.
While Jotaro expected her to wake up soon, it was still too soon. It was only around six o’clock, and she usually slept until 7 or 8, as Jotaro had experienced it in the past few days. Especially after yesterday, when she fell asleep late, he expected her to sleep longer. Looks like her excitement got the better out of her and made her wake up sooner.
He finished his coffee at once and directed his attention fully to his daughter, who was looking at him expectantly, smiling wide.
“Good morning, Jojo,” he started, “Yeah, it’s finally Christmas. Did you sleep well? Is there anything you want for breakfast?”
“I want to eat omelette!” it was out of her mouth as soon as she heard the question. “ Omelette! Like what she cooked for her boyfriend in the film yesterday!”
Jolyne had become obsessed with all these cliche romantic Christmas movies that the TV channels were streaming. They all basically had the same plot, the actors’ playing barely memorable. The only reason Jotaro took the effort and patience to suffer through all of them was that she liked these kinds of movies. Weather thought they were entertaining too.
“Okay,” Jotaro nodded, lifted her up, he stood up, then put her back into his seat at the table. He started to prepare the meal without a second thought. It wasn’t an overly difficult dish, he could easily do it.
Jolyne talked Weather’s ears off in those ten minutes while Jotaro cooked. It was obvious that she liked Weather and Jotaro was happy with that. Weather even let her have a taste of his coffee, with a gentle warning from Jotaro to don’t drink too much of it. The warning turned out to be useless, as she grimaced with disgust after only a sip of the dark liquid. Weather liked his coffee black, without any sugar or milk in it.
As soon as the food was done, he set it on a plate and gave it to Jolyne, when it wasn't extremely hot anymore.
“Why it isn’t snowing yet? It’s Christmas, it's supposed to be snowing! Like in the movies!” she complained between two bites. Jotaro sat down next to Weather.
Weather shook his head. “It rarely snows in Florida.”
“But if the weather feels like it, it might happen.” Jotaro shot a pointed look towards his boyfriend.
“More like if Weather feels like it huh?” Weather snorted with humour.
“Let her finish eating then dress her up for going outside. After that the moody weather might feel like snowing. “
Jotaro fought the urge to roll his eyes. He muttered yare yare daze under his breath.
Jolyne was staring at them, confused.
“What are you talking about?”
“Nothing important, sweetie. “ Weather made a dismissing gesture with his hand. “Have you finished eating?”
“Yeah.” she eyed him suspiciously.
Jotaro stood up. “Then come on, let’s dress up for the day. We’re all dressed in pyjamas. Christmas is special, right?”
That switched on Jolyne’s enthusiasm once again.
“Okay, Dad! We can’t stay in pyjamas all day because it’s Christmas!” she nodded approvingly, like it was a well-known fact that people can’t stay in their pyjamas on the day of Christmas.
Jolyne followed her father into the guest room, which was made into her own room for the two weeks she was staying with Jotaro.
Fifteen minutes later they both emerged from their rooms fully dressed. Jotaro could tell she chose to wear one of her nicest clothes, the sweater looked brand new. She only needed help with tieing her shoelaces and styling her hair.
Jolyne grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the door. Jotaro stopped her before she could go outside.
“Jacket” he reminded her, while offering said piece of clothing to her.
“Don’t be silly, it’s not that cold outside!” she said, but put on the jacket without any further complaints.
They exited the house together.
It was snowing.
Weather was standing in their yard, his hands in his pockets. His Stand enveloped him like fog on a chilly morning. It was Weather Report’s ability that made it snow in the neighbourhood. However, Jolyne wasn’t a Stand user, so she wouldn’t know it.
Jotaro looked at his daughter. She was staring at the clouds in awe, her eyes shined with happiness. Jotaro felt thankful for his boyfriend’s ability, as it made her smile so brightly.
She poked his hand to get his attention again.
“The snow, it’s a Christmas miracle!” she whispered it to him, like a secret, before she disappeared from his side to chase the falling snowflakes.
Jotaro smiled to himself.
He walked towards Weather, who was standing only a few meters away from him. As he got close, he furrowed his brows in worry. Weather’s whole posture was tense, his jaw and his fists clenched. His gaze was fixed on the ground and it had a hateful edge to it that Jotaro couldn’t understand. He stepped closer.
“Weather? Are you okay?” he called out.
Whatever got him into that state, it vanished when he heard his voice. Weather took a deep breath and all the tension slowly washed out of his body. His stand faded out and returned to him, but it was still snowing. Weather buried his face in his hands.
“I’m okay,” he said after a moment of hesitation.
“It just… it’s when… when I use my Stand, it brings back memories I would rather forget.”
Jotaro put his hand on Weather’s shoulder as an attempt of comfort.
“It seemed like you hated everything, you were glaring at the ground so intently.”
“But I don’t hate you nor Jolyne.” he sighed, then he finally looked at Jotaro.
“I’m not that man anymore who I was in those memories. But I’m working on it, and I improve every day.”
This was the first time Jotaro heard him talk about his past so openly. He wasn’t stupid, he knew they both had some issues to work on.
“I don’t understand fully what you’ve been through, but I can offer to be beside you as you figure out everything.”
Weather pulled him into a hug. “Thank you.”
They stayed like this for a few minutes. It felt peaceful.
Weather looked at him again, but this time without any nostalgic melancholy. He was grinning.
“What about a kiss? Like in all those romantic Christmas movies?”
Jotaro glanced at Jolyne. She was still occupied with playing with the snow. He looked back at his boyfriend with a smile.
“I don’t see why not.”
Jotaro leaned in and kissed him.
Maybe Christmas miracles were real, after all.
