Work Text:
Ever since Fong broke up with his girlfriend, he felt a hole in his heart. Who knew that the one who would patch that hole would be someone very close to him.
That night, he got drunk and crashed at Tine’s place. Tine was one of his best friends, and also the one that Fong had a crush on once in highschool. Fong knew he was bi since he was little, attracted to girls and boys equally, but never told anyone about that. He was protective of his privacy, and also protective of Tine. That’s why he was so against Sarawat and the fact that they both could be falling in love with each other. But that night, he also saw something that changed his mind.
He saw how Wat was looking at Tine.
He was watching Tine with the same eyes once.
Sarawat already loved Tine, and he was serious about him.
Fong could tell.
So, even though he tried to protect him a little bit more, he eventually gave up and let Tine live his own life, and he knew he did the good thing.
But that simple thing made the hole bigger. No one could tell, he was still the same Fong, maybe a little calmer and a bit wiser.
“You know, you don’t need to pretend that you are fine.”
Ohm. The only person who was also left alone, and his other best friend. The person that could make him smile for no reason and being next to him made Fong’s day brighter. It wasn’t love. It was just the fact that he liked his friend and his company. That was why they both were seen everywhere together those days.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, I know you are sad.”
“Why would I be?”
“For multiple reasons.”
“Name three.” Ohm looked into Fong’s eyes and counted on his fingers.
“Number one: Tine is barely hanging out with us; number two: ever since the break up, you stopped looking at other girls; and number three: you are the only one who is available these days, which is pretty sad.”
“Fair points, but you are also the only one available these days.”
“That is because I have time only for you.”
Well. That was...interesting. Fong blushed and felt something warm spreading around his heart, making the hole there a bit smaller.
“Only...for me?”
“Mhm. Only for you.” Ohm smiled and that made Fong blushing even harder. ,What the hell is this?, he asked himself. He never felt anything for Ohm, even though he found Ohm attractive. But that wasn’t a point. Or was it?
“Anyway, you are sad, and I am here if you want to talk, okay?” If Ohm saw Fong blushing, he didn’t mention it.
Fong was surprised by those words. Ohm wasn’t dumb, but he was a little bit dull and what he said was really unexpected.
Still, he took it, and nodded, smiling back at Ohm.
Wait, did he see Ohm blushing, too?
What was happening? Did he get abducted by aliens and now he was asleep and dreaming about that sweet moment? And why was this moment so sweet? Ohm was his friend, he could never...Or could he?
Fong was confused, and needed to be alone, so he excused himself and went home, only to spend another three hours sitting by the pool and thinking about Ohm and the possibility that he was falling for him. And the results made his heart pound like a drum at a metal concert.
“P’Earn, how do you know that you’re falling in love?”
Earn was a senior who played guitar in the music club, and because they met a few times before, and she was always so open to talk about anything and everything, Fong found a kindred spirit in her. Also, she was a closeted lesbian, so she knew where Fong came from.
“Weren’t you in love before?” She asked, looking at him, curiously.
“I was, but this is...new somehow.”
“New how?”
“I might be in love with someone I never considered to love before. I just...we are so close lately and he...he just makes me happy and...I don’t know. Is it strange?”
“What, being in love?”
“No, loving your friend.” Earn smiled sadly and looked at the right corner of the room, where Pear was chatting with Boss.
“No, I don’t think it’s strange. Love is a complicated feeling, and no matter what you do, you can’t choose who to love and who not. Your heart will guide you and show you the right person at the right time. It might not work, it might not be possible, but that is life. Love is love, and if you love somebody, you should at least try your best and make that person happy. Even if it costs you your own happiness.”
Fong knew that she was no longer talking about love in general. He knew about her, and that she secretly was in love with Pear, but he also knew that it was impossible, because Pear wasn’t into girls, and he saw how much it hurt Earn, even though she always smiled and acted all happy.
“P’...want a hug?” She gave him a laugh and shook her head.
“Yeah, I will hug you, and Ohm will burn me with his eyes right on this spot for sure.” Fong looked around, becoming stiff.
“What? Where?”
“He has been looking at us for quite some time now.” She was right. At the door frame, there he stood, watching them. Only when Fong looked at him, he turned around, pretending that he was doing something else.
That was...strange.
“You know, we can test him.”
“Test him? How?”
“After the 2U concert, I will act sweet towards you, and we will see what he has to say.”
“That is actually a good idea. Thank you, P’.”
That was a month ago. And then she really did as she promised, bumping into them after the concert, acting nicely towards Fong, and then disappearing.
“She likes me.”
“No, she likes me.”
“But she smiled at me. Right, Tine? Tine!”
But their friend was already gone to see his boyfriend.
And then the awkward silence came between them.
“Well, if you say that she likes you, you are probably right. I can’t blame her, who wouldn’t like you…” Ohm became suddenly so sad, looking down and avoiding Fong’s eyes.
“What makes you say that?”
“Nothing, just...let it go, Fong…” But he couldn’t. He felt really tired, tired of pretending, of hiding, of not telling the truth.
“Come with me.” He took Ohm’s hand and guided him into an empty class, only there letting him go.
“Tell me.”
“Tell you what?”
“Ohm, tell me already.” Silence. Ohm just stood there, unable to speak, and Fong was ready to give up, when he finally spoke.
“And what do you want to hear? How warm I feel next to you? How happy I am when you call me? How much do I adore your smile? Hm? How I miss you every day? How am I trying not to show my love to you?”
Now he was almost yelling, and Fong just stood there, taking in every single word that Ohm was saying to him.
“How much it pains me to know that you will probably never--”
A kiss.
Fong took every last bit of his bravery inside him, made a step, took Ohm’s head into his hands and pressed their lips together.
It wasn’t passionate, it wasn’t sweet, it wasn’t dreamy, but for Fong, it meant everything, and Ohm felt that.
After the first shock, he hugged Fong around his waist and made him come closer.
The kiss wasn’t long and their foreheads were touching after it.
“You should have told me sooner.”
“I know, but I can be a dull person, you know that.” Fong laughed and hugged him back, both of them being very close now.
“I know. But I like you like that. I like you very much, Ohm.”
“Yeah, me too.”
Fong felt how the hole in his heart went away, leaving only a small scar, one of the many that he would be carrying for the rest of his life. But right then, he was not sad anymore, because right then, his heart beat like crazy, pointing at Ohm, telling him that he was the right person, that he had the right to live his truth, and that he was where he had to be.
In the arms of the person who he was falling for. In the arms of his lover.
