Better when we go together

Summary:

A little fluff fic where Toudou and Makishima have a habit of going to get their hair done together.

Notes:

This is a dumb fluffy fic I wrote. Please note this is my first yowapeda or toumaki fic, so I am sorry if the characterisation is off or anything as a result.

Work Text:

Makishima never enjoyed going to the hairdressers. He always found it awkward and would spend the whole time terrified and worried that the stylist would chop off the hair which he had spent two years growing down to his lower back. However, the fact that there was a routine that he would always go with his boyfriend Toudou made the thought a little less undesirable.

‘We are going to look so good, Maki-chan!’ Toudou said, as they rode their bikes to the shopping centre. Letting out a sigh, Makishima gave a response.

‘It’s so tedious, sho,’ he replied, the couple turned a corner. The harsh heat of the sun was softened by the wind which was blowing past the couple as they cycled along. A wide smile appeared on Toudou’s face.

‘I want to look good for my fangirls,’ he said. Upon this comment, Makishima felt a shock of jealousy go through him.

‘Is that all you care about, Jinpachi?’ he snapped, offended by his boyfriends words. Toudou let out a small laugh and gazed gently at his boyfriend with his violet eyes.

‘No, because I care about you more,’ he said, causing his boyfriends cheeks to turn bright red. Toudou thought it made Makishima look cute when he blushes, even though his boyfriend struggled to smile naturally, his adorable blush more than made up for the fact, ‘you are cuter than any of my fangirls’ he thought to himself. Cherishing that thought, Toudou realised the couple had arrived, they both stopped their bikes and went to find a place to park them, ‘afterwards we should go have lunch in one of the cafes in the centre,’ Toudou suggested, removing his headband.

‘Is that new?’ Makishima asked, noting that he hadn’t seen his boyfriend wear the headband before. It was a thin, plastic band which was indigo in colour and embellished with silver dots.

‘Yes, I bought it last week,’ Toudou stated, ‘it matches the new t-shirt I bought with it,’ he added, pointing at the t-shirt he was wearing, which was the exact same shade of purple as the headband. ‘I like him in purple, it matches his eyes’ Makishima thought to himself. Toudou broke his boyfriend’s line of thought by grabbing his hand, ‘let’s go, Maki-chan.’

Walking into the salon together, Toudou spoke to the person at the desk. The dark haired cyclist was the charismatic one out of the duo, meaning he was the one who did the talking and asking. After Jinpachi had done the talking, the couple ended up having their hair washed sat next to each other. Makishima glanced over to see that Toudou was glancing at his phone and tapping at the buttons.

‘What are you doing with that thing now, Jinpachi?’ Makishima asked, concerned about the fact he boyfriend was using his phone at such an inappropriate time.

‘Just texting Manami, the kid wanted some advice on climbing,’ he said. Makishima could feel the fingers lathering the shampoo in his hair.

‘Just tell him to find his own style,’ Makishima replied, Toudou turned his head slightly and smiled.

‘Of course you would say that, Maki-chan,’ he replied, watching as Toudou’s hair was being rinsed, ‘I don’t know whether to be feeling sorry for or envious towards the woman who is washing your hair,’ Toudou commented. Confused at the comment, Makishima’s expression changed to one of misunderstanding.

‘What is that even supposed to mean?’ he asked, the stylist turned a hose on and began to rinse the bubbles out of Makishima’s long green hair. Toudou playfully winked as he gave his answer.

‘Envious because she gets to touch my boyfriend’s hair, yet sympathetic in a way because of the fact there is so much of it she has to wash: you saw how I ended up getting green hairdye all over my nice white shirt when I was helping you do your roots the other week,’ Toudou commented. Sitting up because he was already rinsed ‘anyway, you look so tense, you should relax,’ he said, giving his boyfriend a playful smile. Before he could say anything else, Makishima watched as Toudou got up and was lead to a chair in front of a mirror. Makishima smiled quietly to himself ‘maybe I should listen to the idiot’ he thought, relaxing his shoulders a little.

‘Sir?’ the stylist asked to Makishima, who was sat in the chair next to Toudou. The young man bit his lip, confused at what to say or request.

‘Just a trim,’ Makishima murmured, feeling a little queasy from the awkwardness. The stylist responded by nodding and started carrying out the request.

‘Make sure you dry it nicely for him as well,’ Toudou, who was halfway through having his own hair trimmed at this point, called over from the seat across. There was a few minutes of silence between them before

‘I guess it is better when we go together,’ Makishima said, thankful that he had his boyfriend with him.

‘I enjoy spending time with you, Maki-chan,’ Toudou replied, ‘sometimes I wish we lived closer so I could see my boyfriend more often,’ he added, his cheeks turning slightly pink. A voice then spoke from behind Makishima.

‘You have amazing hair,’ the stylist commented, as she continued to cut at the ends of Makshima’s hair. Makishima glanced over at to his boyfriend.

‘I think she is being sarcastic,’ he muttered, not believing the comment was sincere.

‘I don’t think she is, as it is the truth,’ Toudou replied, adjusting his position slightly so the hairdresser could trim his bangs. Makishima became flustered at the response, he was so used to being told his hair was ‘weird’ due to its colour and length so any compliments he ever received didn’t feel right. Except when they were from Toudou, but even then the cyclist sometimes would have to question to legitimacy of his compliments. Soon their conversation had to stop as their voices became drowned out by the sound of the hairdryer being used on Toudou. Makishima looked over in Toudou’s direction, he was looking back down at his phone again ‘typical’ he thought to himself. Makishima wanted to know what Toudou was looking at, but he couldn’t ask as there was no way he would be able to hear him. It was a relief when it did stop, as it allowed them to talk again.

‘I sent Manami your advice,’ Toudou said.

‘You did?’ Makishima replied, looking over at Toudou, whose now-dry hair was being brushed and sprayed into place. He gave a small nod.

‘Yes, he thanks you for it,’ he replied, the comment causing Makishima to turn red with embarrassment. Makishima’s blushing was worsened when the hairdryer was turned on as the heat made him redder, ‘don’t be embarrassed, Maki-chan,’ he added, picking up on his boyfriends red face.

‘I’m not embarrassed,’ Makishima protested in response. Toudou was finished by this point so stood up. Makishima thought he looked good, his trademark hairstyle glossier than usual.

‘Ok, I will wait for you outside,’ Toudou said, giving his boyfriend a flirty smile as he walked past.

‘Don’t put your lame headband back on, you look good without it,’ Makishima shouted to his boyfriend, who responded with thumbs up.

‘You look great, Maki-chan!’ Toudou exclaimed as Makishima left. Toudou went to gently stroke his boyfriend’s hair. The long, soft waves which fell into his lower-back area, ‘It’s so shiny and soft… I like this too,’ he added, gesturing the small braid which was plaited into his boyfriend’s loose hair.

‘I told her not to it, but she still did,’ Makishima mumbled, even though he secretly liked the thin braid as well, ‘you are looking good too,’ Makishima added, giving his boyfriend a small smile. Makishima took a moment to admire Toudou’s dark shiny hair, his fringe loose because he wasn’t wearing his headband, just like Makishima had advised. Makishima also still couldn’t get over how much he liked the purple t-shirt, as it really did match his boyfriend’s eyes perfectly.

‘We should go to the café a little further down the shopping centre, to get cold drinks before we cycle home,’ Toudou suggested, grabbing his boyfriend’s hand so they could go there. Once they got there, they found somewhere to sit down. Makishima ordered himself a Cole and Toudou ordered himself a Bespi and also insisted to order an ice cream sundae to share. While waiting for their food, Toudou caught sight of a table of girls, all who were looking in their direction, ‘they are looking at us,’ he noted. This comment caused Makishima to let out a sigh.

‘Why do you always think girls are looking at you?’ he replied, wearily. Toudou rest his head in his hands, looking directly at his boyfriend.

‘I said us, as they are looking at you too, as you are handsome as well,’ he said, he did indeed think Makishima was looking particularly good. Not only due to the fact he had just had his hair done, but he looked good in the blue and black striped t-shirt and dark red trousers he was wearing (one of his less outrageous ensembles) and he just seemed more explicitly happy than usual, and he liked that.

‘Well, I guess they are looking in our direction,’ Makishima noted, as a waiter brought their ice-cream and drinks. Before Makishima even had time to touch his drink, Toudou reached across the table and planted a kiss on his lips.

‘Well it doesn’t matter that much if they are or not, as I love you, anyway.’
