Work Header

Life can be very ironic and dramatic (and a bitch)

Summary:

Keigo and Enji have just welcome their child to the world, after an exhausting birth for Hawks and the baby. Everyone is happy until the baby starts crying and they realize the mutation quirk wasn't just wings.

Detailed/spoiled summary: The one fic where Hawks and Endeavor have a little boy with wings that burn when he is crying. And they discover this when he burns Hawks a little after being born. Enji feels awful (emotionally), Keigo feels awful (physically), and the other Todorokis make wrong assumption seeing Hawks new scar.

Chapter 1: Mutation quirks are shown since birth

Summary:

Hawks and Endvaour talks and I accidentally made a lot of Endevaours feelings. I was in angsty emo zone.

Notes:

I reccomend reading whole Story, like showing both chapters one next to the other.

Chapter Text

Hawks was half sitting in the bed, struggling to keep his eyes open.

Enji was sitting in a chair next to the bed, hand intertwined with Keigo's, but he was looking towards their bathroom where the doctor had taken their baby to finish cleaning him up. Keigo had almost passed out before being able to push and the baby hadn't cried when he was born, from his previous children, all of them except Natsuo, who was born through cesarean, had cried inmediately. The lack of noise was terrifying and he regreted not insisting in Hawks going to a hospital, he had wanted to keep everything more private, having a home birth with a just a doctor. He should have insisted more in going to the hospital.

"He's fine. You heard the doc."

He turned his head towards Keigo, he still looked too pale and sweaty. "I know" Enji moved the blonde hairs stuck to his forehead. He didn't knew how to say he was afraid or why he still was, despite their son being fine, but he could he say the other thing, the one he was getting better at saying it, "I love you."

Keigo smiled and kissed him.

Enji kissed him back but end it shortly. "Sleep."

"Ooooh," said Keigo teasingly, "is the number One trying to get credit of my work?" Enji rolled his eyes but smiled slightly, "Because it's not gonna happen, I'm going to be the first to hold him" he sticked his tongue out.

Enji went for a kiss although he sat down quickly, noticing the doctor was back, carrying his child. He was asleep but the health proffesional seemed calm, "so obviously everything was fine", he assured himself.

The doctor smiled and hold the baby towards Keigo and Enji, Keigo took him first, resting the baby's face between his collarbone and his chest, careful to support the little wings with arm without putting too much pressure on them, Enji helped to adjust the baby and took the tiny hand, unable to supress his smile.

""As far as I can tell, He's completely healthy. Eight and half pounds, twenty-one inches, his lungs hear okay, he's probably just exhausted," the doctor stopped, looking unsure.

"What?" he asked.

"His wings looks different than mine." Keigo said not looking away from the baby's face, "Different texture and more compact."

Enji observed closer, they seemed a lighter red, but he couldn't see much without moving Keigo's arm The doctor smiled calmly, though it looked rehearsed, "I can't say for sure but it seems there would be a lot of differences between Hawks's quirk and this one."

He turned to Keigo, he didn't seem surprised just pensative.

The doctor bowed and went to prepare his things to leave.

Enji didn't know if he was suppose to comfort Keigo or something, he seemed tired -still too tired- but not sad.

"Do you think he will be sad if he can't fly?"

He paused, trying to think how to answer, "Yes." he saw Keigo's face fall, "but he will get over it if he can't. He's strong."

Keigo smiled again, "yeah he is." he kissed the baby forehead. "Very resilient."

He stared at Enji, his smile didn't dissapeared but it was different, less geniune. "Are you happy?"

There was a lot implied in the question, specially since Hawks saw him tearing up a little the second their son was born.

"Yes."

Hawks gave him his real smile again, his whole demenaour changing, and Enji understood Hawks had, conciously or not felt threathened by him. He tried to smile back. There where a lot reasons for that. Four examples of how bad had he been. And Keigo was probably only running in instint at this point He let go of his son's hand.
Keigo blinked faster, noticing the change, "Enji, I didn't meant it like that," he moved to try and take his hand back,
There was a cry and a scream.

The baby was crying and his wings were on fire. He grabbed him fast but not fast enough, Keigo had already been burned.

He remebers they were lucky the doctor hadn't left yet, he knows the doctor was the one who helped treated Keigo's burn and later helped him calm the baby, and he won't ever forget the face of pain of Keigo, or ever forget how he stood there panicking as if his daily job wasn't being a hero.
