Liquid Manners

Summary:

It's difficult to train one's Quirk, this is a fact of life. No matter how simple it may look or function, training a Quirk to its best form can be hard.

It's even harder when you have to be polite while doing so.

Work Text:

Kota Izumi was a peculiar kid. Not because he had a Quirk-everyone had one of those-but because he preferred to hang around the magical creatures surrounding his house.

...Okay, these weren't creatures so much as people with Quirks that made them look like such, but it was the same thing.

"Kota-chan!"

And there was one in particular he liked to hang around with.

She was a small girl, not much taller than him, wearing a light blue dress patterned after the sea. Her ocean-green hair flowed as she flew towards Kota, a pair of watery wings flapping on her back.

"Hey there, Midoriya-san-"

And then she glomped him.

"I was starting to worry you wouldn't show up!" the girl cried. "Anyway, are you ready for today's training?!"

"You bet I am!"

And so, the fairy girl grabbed Kota's hand and brought him to the water, where the two managed to walk on it like it was solid.

Kota didn't lower his guard, however; he knew the only he hadn't submerged was because he was holding Midoriya's hand, and as soon as he let go, he'd fall straight into the water.

"Okay, I'll summon a few projectiles for you to strike. I want you to focus and hit as many as you can, alright?"

Kota glanced at the hand hold, then turned back to Midoriya.

"Of course you're gonna practice one-handed! If you can't work with one hand, there's no way you'll work with both!"

As much as he wanted to make an argument for himself, Kota knew this wasn't the best idea, especially if he started acting like his usual, crass self.

So, he nodded and witnessed as Midoriya raised her arm, and small balls of water levitated into the sky.

The balls then morphed into a circular shape before solidifying.

"There're your targets, now try hitting them!"

Kota raised his arm, and flinched upon remembering that the arm was his non-dominant one. She eyed Midoriya briefly, hoping she'd get the hint.

She just blinked twice, impatiently waiting for Kota's attack.

Seeing he wouldn't get anywhere with her, Kota aimed his arm at the targets and promptly shot a stream of water at them.

Not a single stream hit their intended target.

"GODDAMMIT!"

By the time Kota realized his mistake, he had already fallen into the water, half his body being submerged before hitting the ground.

"Watch your manners, young man!" Midoriya chided. "Pro-Heroes must always be nice and polite!"

"I only want to get better using my Quirk, Midoriya-san, not become a Pro-Hero!" Kota snapped back. "Besides, I'm older than you, remember!?"

Kota got splashed for his troubles.

"Don't talk back in such a rude way!"

Kota splashed the fairy girl back and stood up, exchanging angry glares at one another... Before they smiled and began splashing each other again, giggling as the splashes eventually devolved into a quirkless water fight.

And as the fight continued, Kota couldn't stop smiling, the giggling face of Midoriya cheering him up for some reason.

Umi Midoriya! Quirk: Asrai! She resembles a small water fairy, with all the powers that entails! However, she grows weaker the hotter her surroundings! She's also a politeness snob, so you better be on your best behavior when you face her!
