If Jotaro ignored the fact that Polnareff was slightly translucent and his legs abruptly ended in prosthetics, he could have mistaken it for any of the times where they'd gone on SPW Foundation business back in the nineties. Any time post-mission where the two of them had sat together and discussed... anything, really.
But it wasn't to be - Pol had gone missing in '96 and Jotaro thought he was going to be the least of the Crusaders remaining. Jiji had gotten old, Polnareff was MIA, and DIO had happened to the others.
In a way, Jotaro was the last, but he still had some time. Probably. Hopefully.
"I missed this," Polnareff murmured. "I missed you."
"I... missed you too, Pol," Jotaro said. They sat side by side, thighs touching. Jotaro was fidgeting with his lighter, cigarette unlit in his mouth. "I thought..." He trailed off.
It was obvious to Polnareff what he'd thought. "I did. But I survived, sort of." He placed his arm around Jotaro's shoulders and drew the younger man into a hug. "These ridiculous children," Polnareff said with a watery smile. "Absolute children, let me tell you."
"Bad as us?" Jotaro mumbled against Polnareff's shoulder.
"Ha! Even worse, mon cher." Jotaro huffed. "It's true! They're all so young yet, handling everything they went through. I want to wrap them in blankets."
"Mother hen."
"Please, I am a tortoise."
Jotaro huffed again before the huff turned into a weak laugh and Polnareff could feel dampness spreading on his shirt.
"I know, Jojo," Polnareff said. "I know."
