Work Text:

"This is stupid..." Lu Yao said to himself as he sat on the floor, looking out as many "couples" waltz around the dance floor with music playing. The detective was forced by a colleague to join in the fun, or so they said.

These things are really not his cup of tea.

Yes, they were girls and yes, they were drinks but he didn't want those. He wanted to stay home, eat then sleep in the fresh bedsheets that Lao Qiao washed and put on.

Yes, he and the famous Inspector Qiao Chuseng are roommates. Or should I say...

Lovers.

He would've been happy if Chuseng joined in. He would be dancing with him and drinking champagne with him as they watched at the buzzling streets of Shanghai, the city they try to protect.

When he decided that he had enough of sitting down and decided to go home, he was grabbed by the arm and dragged into the bathroom. The stranger had quick reflexes and a strong grip. Lu Yao shivered as he saw the stranger look down. Lu Yao now had the urge to call for his Chuseng but he knows he couldn't reach him.

He squatted down and hid his face. He just wished Chuseng can sense that he is in danger and ran in to protect him. He prayed to the gods, asking them to protect him and spare him his life. As soon as he finished his little prayer, the stranger also squatted down and tilted its head.

"Ne~ Don't be shy~ come play with me..." the figure leaned closer and closer until Lu Yao felt his breath in his ear. It was awkward, weird and embarrassing. He closed his eyes still, not daring to move.

"No? Well..." Lu Yao was pulled up and was forced to the wall, back facing the stranger. The figure, whoever it is, was pretty turned on. Lu Yao hoped and hoped for something to happen.

"C-Chuseng...!"

Someone then entered the room. He had his hand behind his back and looked at the scene in front of him.

"What do you think your doing...!?"

Lu Yao shot his head up and saw that familiar façade, that familiar tone in his voice, that familiar cologne on his clothes. It was no doubt that it was his...

His Qiao Chuseng.

Chuseng was wearing something that a normal Qiao Chuseng wouldn't. It was a changshan, a blue changshan with dragon, swimming in deep blue ocean tunic. A turquoise waist pendant hanging on his waist.

Filled with anger and frustration, Chuseng charges in and punches the perpetrator. The figure staggered back, blood trickling from his nose. Lu Yao was on the verge of crying when Chuseng grabbed him and ran out.

"Lao Qiao! I thought I was about to be abducted like that time! How could-" All he got from Chuseng was a sweet, apologizing kiss. He then could hold his tears anymore.

A single tear ran down from his flushed red cheek…

And then another and then another...

He took hold of Chuseng's hand, squeezing it as if his life depends on it. Kissing every inch of Chuseng, hoping for him to do the same thing. With every kiss, Lu Yao desperately tries to get air through his nose but that need of comfort and attention just threw the idea of oxygen out the window.

As they broke off to get air, Lu Yao still has his tears welling up in his eyes and bright red hue across his porcelain skin. Chuseng kisses away the tears and held his hand, squeezing them, trying to see if Lu Yao is still there

Chuseng kissed every single knuckle in Lu Yao's hand, hoping for forgiveness. The detective then looked down, horror written on his face. He couldn't speak, move or make eye contact. Chuseng grew worried.

"San-tu... are you ok? Where does it hurt?"

No response

"San-tu, please tell me, ah? Tell me what happened..." Chuseng really was worried about his Lu Yao. He held his hand and placed if on his chest. His heart was beating faster than a car, his eyes looked hurt and his face saying "I'm sorry".

"Why are you so late...?

"W-what...?"

Lu Yao grabbed his collar and pulled him close to him, letting him see the fear that's written in his eyes. His tears were falling one by one down his cheek and onto the floor. His cheeks flushed red from anger and fear and his teeth were grinding.

"I said why were you late, damnit!" Chuseng was shock at the quick change of personality. Lu Yao never truly got angry except that time when they "played" Russian Roulette. Chuseng tried to calm him down but it didn't work.

Lu Yao's hands, which were holding onto Chuseng's collar, were shivering. He was holding them tight that his knuckles turn white like a marble. He was breathing heavily, waiting for Chuseng's confession.

"I though you were never gonna come..."

"H-hah...?"

"I thought you were never gonna come..." Lu Yao slowly let Chuseng's collar go while repeating the sentence.

Chuseng felt like a jerk. For the first time in a while, he did something that was like his old self. He pulled his San-tu into an embrace and kissed his hair.

Rubbing soothing circles on his back, swaying left and right slowly, saying "I'm sorry" quietly...

This made Lu Yao turn into water. His heart was hurt, he was embarrassed that Chuseng had to see him in the arms of another man. He felt like a jerk when he yelled at Chuseng in the nick of time. Lu Yao hugged back, tears falling and sobs echoing.

Sniffles here, waterfall of tears there but, Chuseng didn't mind. As long as Lu Yao felt better, he'll let him cry on his shoulder.

As the sobbing slowly grew weaker, Chuseng kissed San-tu's forehead and let their foreheads touch one another. He looked at him with gentle eyes, hands softly brushing against one another.

"Don't worry, Lu Yao, I promise I will protect you. Be it life or death, I don't care. As long as you return safe in my arms..."

"Ngh..." was Lu Yao's response before he submit to conciousness.

Notes:
