Work Text:
Wiping a hand across his forehead, Namjoon glances back at the written instructions, making sure he’s set the oven correctly. He looks back at the timer, nodding once he’s double-checked.
“Just an hour, then,” he mumbles, collecting the various mixing bowls and dirtied utensils, placing them in the sink.
I’ll deal with these in a moment, he thinks, grabbing a wet sponge. He wipes down the countertop, nodding to himself as he moves Seokjin’s pumpkin pie recipe to the kitchen table. His hyung will be so proud of him! Grinning, Namjoon pokes his head into the living room. Yoongi is relaxing on the couch, attention focused on the television program—something about dogs, Namjoon sees.
“Hyung!”
“All done, Joon-ah?” Yoongi calls, turning to glance at him.
Namjoon nods, coming to sit next to the older man. He bounces a little on the couch, tremendously happy. Yoongi huffs a laugh at him, reaching over to ruffle his hair.
“It’ll be good, Joon-ah.”
“I hope so,” he murmurs, rubbing at his arm—he’d burnt himself when he preheated the oven.
Yoongi notices—Yoongi notices everything—reaching out to grab Namjoon’s hand. He moves the other’s hand to his lap, attention going back to animal planet.
“Don’t touch it, Joon.”
“Okay, hyung,” Namjoon bites his lip, fidgeting, “…you’ll try it, right?”
Yoongi sighs, turning to face Namjoon.
“Joon-ah. Namjoon.”
Namjoon glances up at him, flushing a little as Yoongi smiles at him.
“You followed Jin-hyung’s recipe?”
Namjoon nods.
“And you set the oven correctly?”
He nods again.
“Then it should be fine, even if it’s not in long enough, or it’s in too long.”
Namjoon’s face scrunches up, eyebrows near his hairline.
“But hyung—”
Yoongi lets out a loud groan, manhandling Namjoon until the younger man is lying horizontal on the couch, his head in Yoongi’s lap. The taller man blinks a couple of times, pouting up at Yoongi’s double-chin.
“Take a fuckin’ nap, I’ll let you know when it’s done.”
Huffing, Namjoon slips his eyes shut, relaxing as Yoongi’s hand pets over his hair.
“Joon-ah, the timer’s going off.”
Namjoon blinks fuzzily, staring at the ceiling in confusion. Yoongi is standing above him, arms crossed. He’s grinning down at Namjoon, nudging the couch to wake the other up a bit more.
“Wha—”
“The pie. Namjoon, the pie’s done.”
Namjoon gasps, springing up. He stumbles towards the kitchen, Yoongi snickering behind him. He follows the other into the kitchen, leaning against the wall. Namjoon grabs a pair of oven mitts, fumbling to put them on. He opens the oven up, face scrunching up at the wave of heat; Yoongi snickers again, coming over to peer at the pie.
“Does it…look normal?” Namjoon asks, setting it on the stovetop.
Yoongi purses his lips, tilting his head in consideration.
“I think so.”
Namjoon worries his lower lip, pulling the oven mitts off. Yoongi claps him on the shoulder, moving to grab a couple of plates and some silverware. Yoongi shoos him away, cutting a slice for each of them. He places them on the plates, holding one out for Namjoon. Taking it from Yoongi’s hands, he stares down at it, expression nervous.
“Want me to try it first?”
Namjoon nods meekly, looking at the floor. Nodding, Yoongi grabs a fork, quickly scooping some into his mouth. He stares at the pie, chewing slowly; Namjoon breathes in shakily, anticipating Yoongi’s verdict. He continues to chew slowly, glancing up at Namjoon a couple of times.
“How is it, hyung?”
Yoongi swallows, lowering the plate slightly. His eyes scan Namjoon’s face, taking in the nervous posture, the too-tight grip on his plate. He quickly grabs another forkful, giving the other man a thumb’s up. Namjoon sags a little in relief, a wide smile on his face. Yoongi tries to return it, the expression more of a grimace—though Namjoon’s sure it’s because the other is quickly shoveling pie into his mouth.
Happy the pie turned out okay, Namjoon goes to take a bite himself, startling a little as Yoongi quickly sticks his fork in the slice. He shoves it in his mouth, shaking his head minutely. Namjoon huffs a laugh, putting the plate down to cross his arms.
“You like it that much?”
Yoongi nods, throat bobbing; he makes a slightly pained face as he swallows, probably from how quickly he’s eating. Rubbing a hand through his hair, Namjoon grins at him, dimples on display.
“Well, if you like it that much, you can have the whole thing, I guess?”
Yoongi nods vigorously, eyes closing for a few seconds. Feeling a little shy, a little pleased, Namjoon covers his face; Yoongi puts the plate down to pull Namjoon’s hands away, shaking his head slightly. He lets go, grabbing for Namjoon’s face instead; squishing the younger man’s cheeks, Yoongi presses a kiss to Namjoon’s puckered lips. He turns away, grabbing the pie pan and a fork; he makes for his bedroom, leaving a stunned Namjoon behind him.
'Yoongi-ah? Why weren’t you at work? Hyung missed you!’
Yoongi groans, rolling over on the bed. He stares at the trashcan in the corner of his room, a tied plastic bag shoved carelessly into it.
“Namjoon made pie. I ate it.”
‘But, why would that…Oh no. Yoongi-ah, don’t tell me—’
Yoongi clutches his stomach, feeling it clench up. He purses his lips, the corners tilting up a bit regardless.
“Yeah, but it was worth it.”
‘You’re insane, I hope you know that.’
Yoongi huffs a laugh, hissing a little as his stomach gurgles violently.
“Yeah, but dimples.”
‘You know what, you make an excellent point. Just let me know, next time. I’ll come supervise.’
Yoongi makes an affirmative sound, curling up as another wave of cramps and nausea roll over him.
Next time.
