Work Text:
It was a regular day at UA. Class 1-A were filling out forms during class while Aizawa slept on the teacher’s chair. It was a regular sheet that they got every month, asking them to fill in their phone numbers and home addresses in case they changed. One by one the students filled out their forms and put them on Aizawa’s desk as he snored on, oblivious to what was going on around him. He had a particularly rough time the night before, encountering several tough villains while on patrol. The crime rate seemed to be rising, with more problems to be dealt with every night.
Once all the students had handed in their sheets, they started chattering softly with their friends. No one, not even Iida, thought of waking Aizawa up. It was better that he was asleep rather than up and teaching in his grumpy state. In one corner, Kaminari, Jirou, Kirishima and Ashido were randomly talking when the subject changed to Aizawa.
“Must be hard, being a pro hero. Especially if you have to patrol at night,” said Kaminari as he watched Aizawa mutter something in his sleep.
“Yeah, he probably gets no sleep. I wonder if he ever has time to himself, between his work as a teacher and as a hero.”
“That’s probably the reason he looks homeless. I wonder when was the last time he got eight hours of sleep.”
“Maybe that’s why he doesn’t have a girlfriend,” giggled Ashido, “he can barely take care of himself.”
“Or maybe he does but never talks about her. Let's ask him after class.” The group's eyes swam to Jirou. Asking Aizawa a question about his personal life was like talking to a wall and expecting a reply. “Oh come on, what's so wrong about being a little curious?” Jirou continued. “Who knows, maybe he has a wife and kids.”
“I doubt that,” said Kirishima, but he agreed to ask Aizawa when class was over.
When the bell rang a few minutes later, Aizawa’s eyes shot open and looked around in confusion before realizing he was at school. “I see you all have filled out your forms,” he said, eyeing the sheets on his desk. “Remember to finish the assignments due tomorrow. Whoever walks up to me with any excuse will be expelled. Any questions?”
Kirishima raised his hand before asking, “Sir, this is unrelated to the assignment. We wanted to know if you were married.”
Aizawa raised his eyebrow. “Why are you asking me that?”
“We were just er... curious.”
He hesitated before replying, “I am.”
“No way!” Ashido perked up. “Who is she?”
“That,” Aizawa shot her a glare, “is none of your business.” After making sure no one else had any actual questions related to the assignment, he dismissed the class.

After school was over, the group walked back to their homes together. They were pleased with the day’s discoveries. While their sensei did not reveal much, they now knew he had a special someone. The question was, who was this mystery woman?
“Maybe I can pass by Aizawa’s apartment building today. I can try to see who his wife is.” said Kaminari.
“Wait, you know where Sensei lives?” asked Jirou, not believing him. “How do you know which apartment is his?”
“There’s a kid I know who says she lives in the same building as him. I talked to her today. Says she sees Aizawa open up the letter box of apartment 21. That’s on the second floor. She even told me where his window is.” Kaminari grinned. “Wanna do something fun this evening?”
“We are not sneaking into Sensei’s house.”
“Yeah,” Kirishima agreed. “He’s a pro-hero. He’s gonna notice us dumbass.”
“No, no. I’m not saying we sneak in. I’m saying we take a little peek from the outside. Remember those binoculars I got from the mall?”
“What if you don't see anything.” It was Ashido who spoke up.
“I think I know what to do,” Jirou smiled. “Hey Kirishima, do you have any leftovers from the cookies you baked yesterday?”
“I have some stored. But what do those have to do with anything?”
“I might just have a plan.”

That evening, the group gathered at the street just outside Aizawa’s apartment. Kirishima had brought a box which contained some chocolate chip cookies. Kaminari had his binoculars in hand. They were all here except for Ashido, who was at home doing the assignment that was due the next day.
“I’d love to join you guys,” she had said earlier today, “but I don't want to get expelled. Tell me everything at school tomorrow morning.”
“Good thing we did our assignments over the weekend.”
The trio went over their plan once more. This wasn’t the most reckless thing they had done, but the excitement was enough to make their hearts beat fast. They gathered behind a bush on the opposite side of the road, giving them a perfect place to see Aizawa’s window on the second floor. While remaining mostly hidden, Kaminari was stationed with his binoculars while the other two kept a lookout for anyone approaching.
“Do you see anything?” asked Kirishima.
“Nope, just his living room.”
After several minutes of impatient waiting, Kaminari noticed something in the window.
“Guys look! I can see someone there.” Surely enough, there was a person standing there, but the window was far too small and far too high up for Jirou or Kirishima to catch any details. Kaminari on the other hand, saw the person clearly.
“She’s gone now, but I swear I saw her. I couldn’t see her face but she’s got long blonde hair. I saw Aizawa talking to her. He even had a cat in his arms!”
“Great, time for phase two of our plan.”
Phase two of their plan was simple. Kirishima would go to apartment 21 on the second floor and knock on the door. Hopefully, the mystery woman would answer and he would see how she looked and ask for her name. He would then offer his cookies and leave. No one would get into detention or get expelled. It was perfect.
He did however, start doubting the plan as he climbed up the steps leading to the second floor. What if Aizawa simply had a friend over? What if the others got caught? He brushed those thoughts aside as he approached the door. Aizawa wasn’t the type to host tea parties. Kirishima was just being paranoid.
His heart hammering, he knocked thrice. He felt the urge to run away as he heard someone unlock the door. The door opened just enough for him to get a good look at who was inside.
Kirishima was expecting his homeroom teacher or his mysterious wife to answer the door. He did not expect his english teacher to be standing there. Yamada Hizashi, also known as the Pro-hero Present Mic, looked totally different than how he usually looked at school.
Instead of his usual hero costume which was a mixture of leather and sound devices, Yamada wore plain sweatpants and a black hoodie with a rainbow flag sewn on the sleeve. He had headphones around his neck and his waist-length hair was loose and hung freely. Instead of his sunglasses, he wore regular spectacles. Kirishima noticed his bold green eyes which were usually hidden behind tinted eyewear.
“Kirishima Eijiro? What are you doing here?” said Yamada, with a look of concern.
“Uhh Sensei! I was about to ask you the same question.”
The concern on Yamada’s face gave way to confusion. Aizawa came up to the door and stood behind him. He was wearing a simple black wool sweater and sweatpants. His hair was tied back in a topknot. The scowl he wore on his face made Kirishima regret coming. “He lives here,” he said in a nonchalant tone.
“Wait what?” Kirishima turned to Yamada. “Why do you live with Aizawa Sensei?”
His english teacher sighed and then announced, “We’re married.”
Realization washed over Kirishima like waves crashing. Aizawa didn’t have a wife. He was married to Yamada Sensei. Everything started to make sense now. He began to understand why they both always arrived at school at the same time and why they often stayed near each other. He knew they were close, but married?
Aizawa’s voice shook him out of his thoughts. “What are you doing here anyway?”
Kirishima suddenly remembered the box in his hands. “I baked cookies, I wanted you to have some.” He handed the box over to Yamada with a friendly smile. Standing together, they both looked less like pro-heroes and more like concerned parents.
Aizawa raised his eyebrow. “Are you sure that’s the only reason you came over here?” Of course he was not totally convinced. He was a pro-hero after all.
“Yup! That was the only reason. I better get going.” As Kirishima turned to leave, Yamada stopped him.
“Please try not to tell everyone about me and Shouta. People like us are...well... frowned upon.” Aizawa placed a hand on his shoulder.
Kirishima understood. It must be hard to keep a relationship secret. Many people were still not ready to accept queer people. He had not realized how hard it would have been to live hiding yourself. And on top of that, Aizawa and Yamada were teachers. If parents found out, they may complain about having a queer couple teach their children. Some people were despicable that way.
After promising to keep their secret safe, Kirishima hurried out of the building. He was surprised to find out he had only been there for a few minutes. It had felt like hours. Embarrassed, he explained to Jirou and Kaminari about what he had found out.

“Eraserhead and Present Mic?” Ashido exclaimed the next morning after Kirishima had related his adventures from the day before. “That’s definitely a plot twist. Don’t worry, I’ll keep their secret safe, I promise.”
