The Undead Hero: Izanami

Summary:

In this universe, Izuku got his quirk a year late but he wasn't concerned about it at all.
It's true, an angry pomeranian tries his patience every single day but Izuku finds him amusing and he even dedicates some hours in his life to make a some plans on how to mess with him.
Until one day when his heart suddenly stops.
Everyone thought he died but on his funeral, Izuku just woke up nonchalantly . Even stranger, he woke up with an undead related quirk which he named "Onryo or Vengeful Spirit". Inko tried to persuade him not to choose that name to no avail.
Oh, he also managed to adopt some siblings along the way.

PS: I'm suck at summary and Izuku is a troll who loves using his ghostly quirk to get his point across.

Notes:

Well, I did it again.
I'm emotionally drained from writing my main fic and need to find a way to cheer myself up and here it goes.
Forgive me at my attempt at humor, lol.

Chapter Text

4 years old.

That is the maximum age for most people to manifest their quirk.

Ever since the emergence of quirk a 100 years ago, society has changed dramatically. At first, people who was born with one was discriminated cruelly by society and deemed as “freaks”. Some countries even resorted to massacre the quirked individuals due to fear. However, as time goes by, the number of quirked individuals outnumbers the quirkless and society’s view changed.

The one who were discriminated now gained power and individuals who were born quirkless are deemed useless and they changed the position to be the discriminated against.

Despite the government efforts to vanquish the discrimination using “Anti-Quirk Discrimination Bill” that was released after much efforts and debates from both sides of the political spectrums, the law isn’t much enforced in many organisations in Japan and that includes educational facility.

Midoriya Izuku is 5 years old and he was diagnosed as quirkless a year ago.

If you ask him how does it feel to be a quirkless person despite of being the 4th generation after quirk emergence, what do you think his answer will be?

“People are cruel, I got called useless a lot. My best friend doesn’t want to play with me anymore..” you may think that is the answer.

However, Izuku doesn’t think like that.

“I don’t really care, really. I just love messing with people” as he grins widely while he is looking at the kids who tried (keyword, tried) to bully him being held around 100 metres height around a tree with rope and crying.

“They tried to make me feel bad for being this way but even with quirk, yet they failed to do anything to me. Hahahahaha” as he cackles maniacally.

“IZUKU!” a short, slender woman with long green hair and a bun on her head put her hand on her forehead and shakes her head in disappointment.

“Really, again? BUAHAHAHAHAHA” besides her, there is a blonde woman with spiky short hair who laughs her ass off seeing the scene unveiled in front of her.

“LET ME GO! QUIRKLESS NERD!” an angry Pomeranian barks from the tree.

Those two women are Midoriya Inko and Bakugou Mitsuki. Bestfriends since college plus living in the same neighbourhood.

“How did you put them on that height? Izuku, you don’t know how to climb a tree” Inko is dumbfounded on Izuku’s latest antic.

She can’t fathom how his only son is very creative when it comes to self-defence. Last time, she found his tormentors were buried up to their neck inside the sandbox. One time they were tighten on their kindergarten’s roof. When they asked how Izuku was able to do those things, nobody could answer specifically how. Not even Izuku who opted to brush it off by changing the conversation’s subject.

Sometimes Inko wonders if Izuku is the real tormentor but she had seen it with her eyes how horrible those kids to him last time. That’s why she tries her best to keep an eye of him when they got to the park but Izuku’s bullies always find a way to mess out with him. However, izuku is more than capable of handling them all as one day she found all the tormentors were crying saying that Izuku kicked them on their asses and they found it difficult to walk after that.

She is tried to apologize to each of the tormentors’ mothers for her kid’s antics but since Izuku is only protecting himself, she can’t really reprimand him.

Mitsuki’s son, Katsuki, is one the tormentors and probably is the de-facto leader.

They used to be besties but when he got his quirk and Izuku was diagnosed as quirkless, he turned his back on him and began bullying him. Mitsuki has tried her best to make him stop but Katsuki and his lackeys lack the skill to learn not to mess with Izuku.

Izuku on the other hand, was pretty sad at first but he bounced back quickly and seems pretty enjoying his life trolling with his bullies.

Inko sometimes catches him late at night writing his notes with a wide smirk on his face. The next day, she read his notes when he went to school and creeped out. Basically, Izuku spent his night thinking funny ways to mess up with his bullies.

Inko is really tired. Her child is a menace yet the bullying didn’t stop.

“Izuku, let them go” she orders.

“But they asked for it” Izuku pouts.

“Izuku” Inko calls him with a slow and soft intimidating tone.

“Yikes” Izuku grits his teeth as he cuts the rope and letting the children fall from 1 metre height. All of them fall first on their asses and run crying except Katsuki.

“Deku….You will pay!” as he charges at him with his sparkling explosion.

“Ohh, yeah” Izuku rolls his eyes as he dodges all his attacks easily while yawning since he finds Katsuki is boring.

“STOP LOOKING DOWN AT ME YOU QUIRKLESS LOSER!” he screams.

“KATSUKI, STOP RIGHT NOW!” Mitsuki yells.

Inko watches the scene but she already knows the outcome, so she stands still without saying anything. Katsuki just never learns not to mess with his son.

Izuku gets bored as he smacks Katsuki’s back neck and trips his foot. Katsuki falls face first on the sand box.

“Dekuuu….sobs” as he begins crying.

“That’s why I told you not to bully people. Stupid child” Mitsuki helps him to get up as she forces him to apologize to Izuku.

“Awwww, so sad. FYI, I don’t feel bad at all” Izuku grins.

Inko gets angry as she pulls his ear “IZUKU! I have told you several times that violence it is not the answer!” she reprimands him.

“Katsuki, apologize to auntie and Izuku!” as Mitsuki forces his head down to apologize.

Katsuki glares at him “Never!”

“Izuku! You too!” Inko orders as Izuku sticks his tongue out.

“Izuku!” she glares.

Izuku sighs as he looks straight at Katsuki.

He bows “Sorry” and he raises his head a bit, showing his creepy smile to Katsuki.

Katsuki feels chills throughout his back.

Finally, Inko goes to the principal office to apologize to other kids’ parents while Izuku is left to play by himself on the sandbox.

Well, he thought he was alone when he sees a child with dual collared hair who is hiding behind a bush.

Izuku sneakily gets closer to him and he surprises him by showing his face from the front of the bush, making the kid jumped in surprised.

“You saw it, didn’t you?” As his smile slowly widens alongside his toxic green eyes. The kid shudders in fear before running while calling for his mom.

Izuku pouts. He is cute, he wanted to be his friend.

---

That day Shouto was lucky.

His father decided early that day not to hold any training session since he has an important mission. He told him to train by himself but Fuyumi kindly let him to go playing in the park nearby.

The park is adjacent to a kindergarten so they are many kids with the same age as him and Shouto wondered if he could make some friends as he ran happily to the park.

When he arrived at the park, he saw some kids were taunting a kid with curly green hair.

They called him cruel names and some even used their quirks on him.

“Useless!”

“Quirkless!”

“Deku!”

One of them who looked like the leader particularly has a strong one where he made some explosions with his hands. Shouto thought that he needed to help him since he believed that heroes must help people as All Might said it on TV.

He ran closer to those kids, trying to help when he saw the greenette smirked at them. His cute face gone, replaced by a maniacal grin as he suddenly disappeared and those kids suddenly floated on air.

One by one, the kids lost their consciousness and not long after, they were being tight out around the tree by a rope that knotted itself.

Wait, those kids were calling the grenette “quirkless” right? It was clear that the greenette has a powerful quirk!

Suddenly the greenette appeared out of nowhere in front of the tree and he began laughing like crazy. Shouto was scared and he ran to the nearest bush to hide himself.

There he saw the greenette’s mother reprimanded him along with when the grenette cut the rope using scissors and letting those kids free.

Later, after commotion, he saw the greenette played by himself on the sandbox.

He was tempted to approach him and maybe befriend the strong kid when suddenly his face just appeared on top of the bush with a crazy grin on his face.

“You saw it, didn’t you?” he asks with a really creepy tone and even creepier expression.

Shouto’s legs just take off by themselves at the sight. Probably a perfect response of fight or flight. Flight is the best solution since that kid seems crazy and Shouto thinks it is better not to have anything to do with him.

“Mamaaaaaa!!!!” as he cries back to his home.

---

Time skip: two years later at Midoriya’s House.

The funeral of Midoriya Izuku

Katsuki can’t believe it.

The stupid nerd is dead.

They were having a field trip that day at a hero museum in Shizuoka City when that happened. Out of nowhere, the stupid nerd became pale as a snow and just fell face down.

Everyone was panicked and ambulance was called.

Too bad, the paramedic who arrived 5 minutes later told the teacher that Izuku has passed. The cause of death was assumed to be cardiac arrest which is very much unheard of for kids their age with no prior condition.

Later, he went back home where his mom brought him to the hospital where they consoled the grieving Auntie Inko.

She took it really bad as she wailed loudly in the hospital lobby.

“Izuku!!! My sweet baby!!! Why do you leave mee!!!”

Old hag hugged her, trying to calm her down while crying herself.

Katsuki really didn’t know what to react.

Sure, he thought that Deku was useless piece of shit who loved to make him angry but he didn’t deserve to die.

Katsuki is regretting everything as he secretly is very fond of Deku despite all the things that happened between them. He reflected on his behaviour and realised that he had been acting like a villain. He would love to apologize to Deku for all his mistakes he made but he can’t.

Because Deku has gone forever.

Katsuki can’t hold back his tears as they enter the home.

There he is, sleeping inside the casket.

Auntie Inko still sobbing profusely with his mother decided to sit next to her in order to comfort her. Katsuki sits next to his mother and he looks down to the floor. He can’t bear looking at the casket.

I’m sorry, Izuku…

---

Izuku…

Izuku…. Wake up….

Izuku slowly opens his eyes and suddenly he realises that he isn’t at his home.

“Where am I?” he asks.

He looks around him and he sees that he is laying on the bank of a river.

He sees people are crossing the bridge, some using boats and some swims on the river before being attacked by a monster.

Izuku is pretty fearless himself as he loves to watch horror movie but that scene is pretty disturbing, even for him. Because it looks real.

An unruly old woman appears next to him. She has long white hair and is wearing a white kimono. She looks at him with a bored expression on her face.

“I guess, this is not your time yet. My my, what a troublesome quirk you have” she says.

“Huh?” Izuku tilts his head in confusion.

“Dear, your quirk made you come here in the first place. You can travel between realm of the living and realm of the death. Seems like the gods gave this power as a joke or something” she mumbles, looking irritated.

“I don’t understand, Obaachan. They told me that I’m quirkless but in some cases I can do things that I can’t explain” he replies.

“Well of course, your quirk made you to be able to perform those things you did to your friends last time. If you can call them friends, of course. The blonde one will fall to hell faster than I can say bitch and I say bitch a lot” she rolls her eyes.

Izuku chuckles at her response.

“Obaachan, you’re funny” he says.

The grandma smiles at him as she pats his head.

“I’d love to chat with you, lad but you need to go back now. The oafs in the living thought that you were gone and they may burn your body if you’re not fast enough. If they do that, you will become a permanent residence here” she warns.

“Oh, no! How can I go back?” Izuku begins to panic.

“Only you who knows. It’s your power, twerp” she says.

Izuku sighs as he concentrates. Imagining his mother, Kacchan, Auntie Mitsuki when suddenly he feels like he is being sucked into a vacuum cleaner and he opens his eyes.

He smells some nice flowery fragrant around him. He looks around him and shoot, he is surrounded by flowers. They really think that he is dead!

Izuku hurriedly sit on the casket and all of sudden the chant stopped.

He looks around him and he sees people are looking at him with wide eyes. And her comes the chaos as most of they scream as if they are seeing a ghost. Some are hurriedly leaving the house and fall on the way while screaming “He’s aliveeeeee!!!”

Oh yeah, this is funny and he laughs.

---

It turns out that he has a quirk all along and has been using it without realising that it was a quirk.

The doctor who diagnosed him disappeared not too long after he made his diagnosis so they go to another doctor. He examines his toe joint and his quirk factor. Yeah, he doesn’t have any extra joint and he has a quirk factor. Dr. Tsubasa was lying to him, fucking quack.

After that, the people in his school starts to treat him nicely since they found out that he has a quirk. A powerful one in fact and many sucks up to him to be his friends. Izuku ignores them all since he knows that they are not genuine.

Kacchan also apologized to him for being an asshole. He even gave him All Might’s figurine that he loves so much as a token of apology. Well, despite he doesn’t think he can forgive Kacchan anytime soon, it was pretty nice. He receives it with an open heart and smiles at him. Kacchan tries to hug him after that but Izuku uses his quirk and made himself intangible. Kacchan just hug a thin air and falls face first because of that. Well, it was his fault since Izuku has a nice reflex after 2 years of torments from him.

The most surprising news is that his mother decided to move them to Yokohama due to her job.

Izuku doesn’t know how to feel since he likes Musutafu.

He wants to go to UA and it is located in Musutafu which makes it easier to commute in the future. Darn it, he has to think another way for transportation later.

When they move to Yokohama, the Bakugous ccome to their house to bid them goodbye.

Mitsuki and Inko both cry despite Yokohama and Musutafu is not that far. Katsuki hugs Izuku saying sappy shits which Izuku finds it cringey but sweet.

Finally, they bid goodbye and Midoriyas are legally becoming a resident of Yokohama.

His new house is actually more modern, cosier and bigger compared to his previous house in Musutafu. It was funny to think that his mother bought it with a cheap price then Izuku saw something.

Well, of course the house was cheap. The corrupted realtor must have forgotten to mention that someone was killed here and her spirit is still here haunting the living. Shit, he needs to do that then.

Izuku sees the spirit of the woman who tries to curse Inko and he touches her shoulder.

“Now now. It’s time for you to leave this mundane world” he says coldly.

“What?!” she says, surprised that someone can see her without her using her power to make her seen.

Izuku chants some mantra and both of them are transported to Sanzu River (River of Styx, Japanese version).

“Datsueba-baachan, I brought you a fresh soul” Izuku calls someone with a boring tone.

“Wait, where are we?” the spirit asks.

“A place where you belong” Izuku grins. Suddenly, the same old woman who talked to him there the first time appeared next to her.

“Izuku, you surely love to give me more work, huh?” she says, irritated.

“Well, she has been haunting the house my mother bought. She needs to go” he says.

“So heartless” she rolls her eyes.

“An Oni (demon), called me heartless? The audacity” Izuku quips.

“Come on girl, we don’t have much time” she orders.

The spirit of the young woman looks at him and smiles “Thank you”.

“You’re welcome” he grins as he teleports back to the land of the living.

When he opens his eyes, his mother is sitting next to him looking unimpressed.

“Again? Don’t tell me this house is haunted”

“It was, I helped you by bringing the spirit to nether realm”

Inko audibly gasp before sighing.

“Darn that realtor, well, at least we got it cheap. Good thing you have exorcised the spirit” she grumbles. Contrary to her son, Inko hates scary things and wishes Izuku would stop watching horror movies with a big volume.

Izuku smiles as he helps her unpack.

---

The next day, Izuku has arrived at his new elementary school and he is being introduced to his new classmates.

“My name is Midoriya Izuku from Musutafu. Nice to meet you” he smiles widely at them.

“Omg, he is so cute”

“Musutafu? Wow, he used to live in a city near UA! Do you think he ever met the 1-10 ranked heroes?”

“He looks smart”

Izuku can hear the murmur of his new classmates. Well, it seems like they are nicer than his previous classmates.

“Izuku, you can seat at the back in between Juzo-kun and Neito-kun” his teacher says.

Izuku smiles at him and nods.

He then walks to his seat and take a glance to both right and left.

Both of them, Neito and Juzo, nod at him.

“Hi” greets Juzo. Juzo looks interesting. It seems like he doesn’t have lips and his eyes’ pupils are really small. It kinds of reminded him of a skull. Izuku likes him already.

“Hi, Juzo-kun. I hope we can be the bestest friend” Izuku beams. Juzo looks taken aback by that as he nods profusely.

“You must be Neito-kun!” Izuku tries to make a conversation with the blondie. Well, at least he looks cuter than Kacchan.

“I am, nice to meet you Izuku-kun” he smiles.

“The pleasure is all mine” Izuku replies with a sweet smile. Neito blushes at that.

Well, at least both of them seem fun and he grins.

Sir Nighteye’s Agency, Tokyo

Inko is nervous, she got hired in this huge agency as a corporate lawyer but he never met the big boss herself.

A bubbly girl greets her at the lobby.

“Midoriya Inko? Nice to meet you. My name is Awata Kaoru and my hero name is Bubble Girl” she introduces herself and bows at her.

Inko bows back “Nice to meet you too, I’m looking forward to work alongside you, Awata-san”

“My, no need to be so formal. Just call me Kaoru” she giggles.

“Only if you call me Inko-chan” she smiles back.

Bubble girl then gives her a tour of the Hero Agency when suddenly Inko screams as she sees a face on the floor.

“Inko-san, what happened…Eek!”

The face is laughing at their reaction.

“Mirio-san! You almost gave me a heart attack!” she yells.

The face disappears into the floor before appearing behind Bubble girl. This time, with full body but why is he naked?

“Eek! Mirio-sama!” she screams.

“HAHAHAHHAHAHA! I’m sorry Kaoru-chan, you’re just too funny!” he laughs.

The kid looks like a bit older than Izuku. He has blond hair and blue eyes. Who is he?

“I feel like my life span keeps getting shorter and shorter with your prank. Oh, sorry Inko-san, this is big boss’ son. Mirio-sama” she introduces.

Inko smiles at him.

“Nice to meet you, Mirio-sama. I’m a new employee here, my name is Midoriya Inko but you can just call me Inko. I have a son who has quirk that is pretty similar as your” she introduces herself. Well, similar but scarier. She left that part out.

Mirio eyes widens in surprise.

“Really? That is so cool! You should bring him next time here, Inko-san so we can play together!” he beams.

Inko smiles at him “Of course, maybe next time I will bring him here”

“You promise?”

“I promise”

“Yayyy! See you later, Inko-san! I need to go to school!” as he runs while waving his hand to Inko and she waves back.

Kaoru then leads her into the main office.

“So, Sir is right behind this door. Remember, make him laugh”

“Huh?”

Then she opens the door.

Notes:

I may update it slower than my main fic "Sunshine and Moonlight".
I do enjoy writing this fic, though.
